High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1964: Chapter 185: A Choice with No Downside

The official seal is verified correctly.

The aura is verified correctly.

The black cat used its claws to press onto the two parchments, carefully cross-checking the seals and contents on them.

Theoretically speaking, he can confirm that the First University does indeed have a small society called ’Seven Deadly Sins’, with a long history and considerable influence.

At the very least, it would be hard for the Forgiveness Knight Order to make the professor’s joint meeting and the School Works Committee issue such an inexplicable certificate.

Moreover, it can also confirm that the person wearing the white mask in front of him should be a member of the ’Seven Deadly Sins’, possibly a Sin Bearer.

It truly is a head-scratching result for the cat.

On one hand, Zheng Qing doesn’t want to stir up trouble before the school hunting competition, which could affect his mood during the hunt; but on the other hand, the curiosity inherent in feline creatures makes it deeply interested in matters involving secrets, especially the heavy history of the Seven Deadly Sins, which always gives one an indescribable sense of historical participation.

The black cat flicked out its sharp claws, gently scratching back and forth over the two parchments.

It didn’t tear them but left clear scratch marks.

After a while, it casually asked, seemingly inadvertently: ”...Meow, you just said you wanted me to replace you as this so-called Sin Bearer?”

”Yes.” The wizard wearing the white mask nodded slightly.

The black cat tilted its head, looking at him: ”...I still don’t know how to address you.”

This is indeed a problem.

The wizard sitting cross-legged on the ground embraced himself with one hand and pinched his chin with the other, hesitated for a moment, and then replied: ”You can call me senior?”

”Why should I call you senior, just because you stand in front of me?” The black cat tugged at its whiskers, surely this guy is slippery, unwilling to reveal his true identity: ”...How do the other people in the society address you?”

”Generally, they call me ’Lord Kannai’ face-to-face; behind my back, they probably refer to me as ’that guy’ or something.”

”Back to the previous question.” The black cat dropped the discussion regarding titles, repeating the question it had asked before: ”Why choose me? Do we know each other? Do you know who I am?”

”Do you know the school’s roster?” The masked person countered.

The black cat slightly twitched the tip of its tail: ”Well, it’s said to be a very advanced magical work, capable of automatically retrieving identity information of all age-appropriate wizards in the Wizard World and preliminarily screening out the list of prospective students meeting First University’s requirements.”

”Bingo!” The masked person snapped his fingers: ”Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Actually, the core magic in the roster is several divination skills... Of course, to expand the search range, the divination skill applied to the roster is of a relatively high level, probably about legendary level.”

”You mean, does ’Seven Deadly Sins’ have this kind of ability?” The black cat tilted its head, examining the obscure person across, growing increasingly curious about the so-called small society.

”Certainly, the level is definitely not up to the school’s roster level, but the effect is similar.” The wizard wearing a white mask sat up a bit straighter, proudly: ”...The society’s roster won’t show a specific list but will guide us to find the appropriate candidate’s location.”

”So, before you met me today, you actually didn’t know I was a cat?” Zheng Qing suddenly realized why the response he got when he was first seen by the other person.

Mentioning this matter, the masked person was quite speechless—though hidden behind the mask, Zheng Qing seemed to see his distressed expression.

”How to put it,”

He deliberated and slowly said: ”Honestly, today, no matter who I met, I wouldn’t be that surprised... ’Seven Deadly Sins’ only absorbs those with the most potential in the school, and although the First University seems large, there are only a few standout names altogether. But a cat? It did catch me off guard.”

”Who do you think stands out?” The black cat suddenly felt an itch at the bottom of its heart.

The masked person shrugged: ”Since the roster led me to the campus, it’s highly likely looking for Jiuyou Academy students... Among Jiuyou Academy’s lower grade students, Zheng Qing, Xiao Xiao, Tang Dun, Matthew, Zhang Ji Xin are all very outstanding. As for the first-year students, we haven’t found anyone of Alpha Forest Fire’s level yet.”

The black cat was very satisfied to hear its name listed first.

Yet at the same time, it was puzzled by the list provided: ”Only these? I mean, isn’t the chief student of Jiuyou Academy and another scholarship student this year considered outstanding candidates?”

”Liu Fei Fei and Jiang Yu?” The masked person was surprised to stretch his neck, seemingly wanting a peek beneath the black cat’s tail: ”Aren’t they witches? I thought you were a male cat!”

This was somewhat offensive.

The black cat became immediately larger, its white sharp teeth revealed once again.

”Just kidding, just a joke, hahaha.” The masked person waved his hand, exaggeratingly laughed twice: ”Returning to the topic... Do you agree to join our Seven Deadly Sins?”

The black cat pondered for a few seconds.

”What’s the benefit of joining?”

”The Seven Deadly Sins has a very large trade network, from the essence of Great Demons to the magic learning insights of Big Wizards, from the first-degree protected mermaid babies to highly dangerous hunting dogs, from the entire collection of Crowley’s works to the flesh remains of the undead Koschei, from batches of zombies to pure virgin souls... any magical resource you can think of, we have the channel, in this aspect, even Wandering Bar couldn’t match our efficiency. More importantly, joining the Seven Deadly Sins has no downside whatsoever.”

”What do you mean by no downsides?”

”Literally... besides trading, the Seven Deadly Sins does not impose any obligations on members, you can understand yourself as a guest sitting idly in a stranger’s coffee shop... because whether you join or not, nobody knows, except yourself. It’s absolute freedom under strict constraints.”

This sounded very attractive.

”What if I regret joining?” the black cat pursued: ”Can I withdraw at will?”

”You can withdraw anytime as long as you find a suitable successor.” Having mentioned this, the person in the mask paused a moment before adding, ”But as far as I know, every wizard who gets the chance to join Seven Deadly Sins rarely withdraws voluntarily unless compelled by circumstances, which leads to very slow generational replacement in our society... Often, there are two student council elections before the faces at our meeting table change.”

”Old faces? Didn’t you say you don’t know who they are?”

”It’s just a metaphor, we can usually infer a lot of truths from the nuances of daily life.” The wizard with the white mask stopped here abruptly, looked into the distance, and then smiled: ”Sorry, for more information about Seven Deadly Sins, if you’re interested, you can gradually learn in the upcoming assessments... today we can only talk this much.”
