High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1967: Chapter 188: A Morning of Mutual Harm

Is the robe of the Sin Bearers really heavy?

If I take over, as a cat, do I still need to wear a wizard’s robe? Or will the Seven Sins prepare a suitable vest for a cat?

Thinking of this, Zheng Qing’s mind suddenly conjured up a series of wondrous characters like Korin, the Cat Hermit, and Panda Po’s raccoon mentor, imagining himself in a long robe, wearing a small white mask, standing upright in the shadows of a group of tall wizards.

He couldn’t help but shiver.

It won’t be that bad, the Black Cat consoled himself inwardly, instinctively quickening his pace back to the dormitory. But as he passed by a notice kiosk and saw a faded recruitment poster for the hunting team, he couldn’t help but silently calculate the time again, only to find with surprise that the second assessment promised by the Seven Sins is next Saturday, October 3rd, the lunar calendar August 15th, which is the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Although that day’s Old Almanac doesn’t have any prohibitions against traveling, and Zheng Qing staying at school doesn’t need to reunite with family, it’s naturally best not to go out on an important holiday.

He turned his head again, looking for the two masked figures, intending to discuss changing the date, but the area under the Cat Fruit Tree was already deserted. The tree was empty too, not even a single cat.

The Black Cat could only dejectedly embark on the journey back.

This time, it took him longer than the last time to forget things related to the Seven Sins.

Upon returning to the dorm room, it was already two in the morning, and two uneven snore sounds came from Xin Fat Man’s bed. The Black Cat easily judged that the heavier sound belonged to the Fat Wizard, and the lighter one to the Fat Cat.

It seemed that Xin and that Senior Linda of his hadn’t made any substantial breakthrough yet, the Black Cat thought mischievously, glancing at Doctor Xiao’s bed.

Still empty.

This inexplicably worsened the Black Cat’s mood a bit; it didn’t even bother having Sprites clean its paws when jumping into bed. The direct consequence was that the next morning, after waking up, the Warlock found several spotted plum blossom petal footprints on his pillow, faintly emitting the scent of mud from Lin Zhong Lake.

”Ahhhhh!!”

Room 403 echoed with the roar of a brown bear, the earth-shattering howl of the young cost student woke Dylan, who had just crawled into a coffin, and the soundly sleeping Xin Fat Man simultaneously.

”What’s the matter, what’s the matter?” The Fat Wizard rubbed his sleepy eyes, scrambled out of bed, holding the snoring Fat Cat in his arms, asked repeatedly: ”Is there a witch coming for inspection? Is it a witch from our class? Do I know her?”

Dylan dangled half his head over the side of the coffin, hearing this, rolled his eyes at Xin, mocking: ”Don’t bring scenes from your dreams into reality... lowering the standard of our entire dorm room unnecessarily.”

Then Mister Blood Werewolf turned his head, took a closer look at the cost student sitting on the edge of the bed, sniffed, raised his eyebrows: ”Did you turn into a cat last night? There’s still a bunch of stray cat scent on you.”

Then he suddenly understood: ”...Did you turn into a cat and couldn’t help but ’mess with’ some female cat, and now you’ve sobered up, realizing you’ve got a bunch of furry little kittens?”

He was teasing about the embarrassing event that happened to Zheng Qing in spring when the Warlock was naïve about the brutal reality of the cat world and ended up fleeing from a bunch of female cats in heat.

This had already become a classic joke in Room 403 and the Atonement Hunting Team.

Zheng Qing heard, his mouth twitched slightly, biting his teeth, and argued: ”Bullshit! It never happened... Don’t lie about it! There are no pregnant female cats on the Cat Fruit Tree now!”

He was very aware of the vicious impact of low-cost rumors.

”Oh! I understand! There are no pregnant female cats on the Cat Fruit Tree now.” Dylan repeated in a very provoking tone.

”With such topics, as soon as you argue, you’ve already lost half.” Xin Fat Man, who was well-studied in debate skills, said this, his eyelids drooping as he fell back onto his pillow: ”Since it’s nothing... snore, snore.”

Before the words were finished, the rhythmic snoring sound resumed once again. From start to finish, the Fatty Cat nestled in his arms never changed position, not even pausing its snoring for a second.

Woosh!

The sound of water rushing came from the washroom. Shortly, Doctor Xiao ambled out, tying his belt while looking up and down at the young cost student: ”...What’s with the ghostly howling this early morning? Affecting others’ rest.”

Zheng Qing had already bundled the bed sheet, quilt cover, and pillow case that the Black Cat had tainted into a pile, flipping open the law book, licking the dry feather pen tip, planning to copy a ’clean my private, wash me lightly’ spell—that he learned last year in an elective life skills class.

Seeing Xiao Xiao abruptly appear, the young cost student was momentarily stunned for a few seconds.

”Why are you here?” He raised his eyebrows in surprise, forgetting he was still holding the feather pen, which caused a drop of dark ink to be pulled by gravity, leaving the pen tip, falling heavily on the law book, staining the half-written spell.

—Oh, damn, the Warlock hurriedly wiped away the stain on the law book.

”Why can’t I be here!” Upon hearing Zheng Qing’s question, Xiao Xiao looked puzzled, pointed back at his own nose: ”I’m still a member of Room 403...”

”Mr. Zha means you didn’t come back last night.” Dylan, with his pair of dark circles, watched the chaos outside the coffin with great interest, helpfully supplemented: ”With my over a thousand years of emotional experience, I offer you a small suggestion... Young people ought to learn moderation... You were unaware in your youth, shedding tears in old age... Look at you, just one night, and even walking is unstable.”

Xiao Xiao’s complexion visibly shifted from white to green, then to black.

Crackling!

The heavy reference books on the desk moved without wind, the book pages rustled; the light hanging from the ceiling flickered ominously, sending unsettling sparks from the socket; and the copper mirror hanging above the dorm room door started spinning, its surface rising a heart-stopping red.

The snoring of the Fat Cat and Fat Wizard lowered by a few degrees, becoming barely audible.

Mister Blood Werewolf also found the timing right, slipped back into the coffin, and even clasped the lid tightly, acting as if he had already settled into eternal rest and didn’t want to be disturbed.

Zheng Qing was never quick to react but wasn’t slow enough to wait for a curse to hit his head before becoming aware: ”...No need to explain, we all know Sima called you to the office to discuss historical topics.”

This statement burst the bubble of anger brewing within Doctor Xiao, dissipating it somewhere unclear.

He held onto his half-tied belt, standing in place contemplating for a while, eventually still straining to argue a bit: ”We were indeed discussing magical history yesterday... I had a cup of cold milk before sleeping, got an upset stomach... It was diarrhea!”

”Cold milk can indeed cause diarrhea, needs warming up to be harmless.” Zheng Qing nodded earnestly, kindly correcting: ”...But we usually don’t say ’eat milk,’ we say ’drink milk,’ ’eat’ is a verb favored by ancient wizards.”

This only made the Doctor more suffocated.
