Chapter 1989: Chapter 210: Another Saturday

When the black cat climbed up the Cat Fruit Tree, the white cat hadn’t arrived yet.

To this end, it was quite prepared mentally, because Jiang Yu mentioned in the letter that tonight she would first focus on the few theorems learned from the previous divination class taught by Li Mengmo, and might arrive a bit late.

So the black cat wasn’t anxious at all. Upon reaching the Cat Fruit Tree, it first patrolled around the trunk, stopped a fight between two quarreling big cats, comforted Gouzi Furry Bean who was alone in the cat group, and collected tributes from a few new cats, before leisurely jumping onto its ’throne,’ lying down facing the moon.

Tonight’s moon was large, round, and very white; the scattered moonlight was refreshing and pleasant, and the moonlight was filled with an inspiring magic power, making one feel as if they could conjure an unbelievable magic with a wave of the hand.

The black cat happily purred.

It felt the abundant magic power was extracted from each breath, gathered into its heart, then slowly pumped through the blood to all limbs and bones, ultimately seeping through each hair tip, evaporating into the air, blending with the surrounding moonlight - it suspected if a wizard saw it from afar, they might see a black cat shrouded in aura.

No, not necessarily a black cat.

Tonight, it should be like the moonstone under its claws, sparkling and shining brightly.

Thinking of this, the black cat instinctively perked up its ears, cautiously glanced around, seemingly worried that someone might witness the slightly embarrassing words floating in its mind.

In its sight, the fruits on the Cat Fruit Tree hung one or two on the branches, all their fluff standing up, immersed in their own worlds, completely ignoring the black cat’s slight movements.

Bang.

The moonstone under its paw lightly collided with another apricot yellow jade, making a crisp sound, as if echoing the sound of the stone in the black cat’s heart falling to the ground.

These two gems were tributes from new cats tonight, and the black cat intended to give them to the little white cat later.

The fruits on the tree were becoming more and more obedient. The black cat played with the fruit under its paws, satisfied, thinking that maybe next time it could take some time to catch a few Red Chain Snakes by the lake or fish some slick fish in the Silent River to reward these cats under its command.

”Hey! You came quite positively today.”

An annoyingly familiar voice rang out not far away, interrupting the black cat’s joyful thoughts: ”... Are those two gems for me? I’m really too embarrassed... but I must remind you, even if you bribe me, I can’t show favoritism in the assessment... after all, I’m just a supervisor, not an examiner.”

The black cat’s ears tilted sideways, forming airplane shapes, and it looked over with an unfriendly gaze in response to the voice.

Then it saw a wizard wearing a white mask and a large black robe crouching on an oak branch not far from the Cat Fruit Tree, waving at it.

”Damn!”

The black cat burst out with the second expletive of the day, repeating the sentence it had said to Xiao Xiao that afternoon: ”I knew I forgot something... how could I forget about you?”

”Just a small magic skill.”

Despite wearing a white mask, the black cat still heard some delight in the Sin Bearer’s voice: ”... As long as you pass our assessment, you’ll have a chance to master this little skill.”

He was delighted.

The black cat was not delighted.

Its first reaction was to shirk off tonight’s assessment—at least it shouldn’t affect its date with the little white cat—and then anger arose, contemplating whether to knock out that annoying guy and bury him in the soil.

Just leaving the head exposed so he doesn’t suffocate.

Perhaps feeling the claw-scratching and palm-rubbing from the throne, the fruits on the Cat Fruit Tree awakened from enjoying the moonlight, opened their apricot-nut-like cat eyes, looked at the unexpected guest not far away, and began to stir restlessly.

Frankly speaking, when dozens or even hundreds of cat eyes, varying in size and color, suddenly open between the crowns of a large tree, shining brightly in the night, anyone who sees it would have their sanity values drop crazily, thinking a mysterious existence from the depths of the starry sky has descended.

Even knowing those eyes among the tree crowns belonged to cats, the Sin Bearer still felt a bit of a chill at the back of his neck, chuckling dryly, raising his hands.

”Don’t get excited, don’t get excited.”

The wizard wearing a white mask slowly stood up, still slightly hunched, as if worrying standing too tall might incite the tree full of cats to riot, soothingly spoke in a slow voice: ”It’s just a joke...the way you look, you’re waiting for someone... or a cat? Want to postpone today’s assessment?”

The last suggestion greatly pleased the black cat.

”Can it be postponed?” Its originally brimming anger was instantly diminished a lot, and the numerous opened cat eyes in the crowns behind it partially closed, greatly reducing the pressure on the wizard opposite.

”Perhaps.”

The Sin Bearer did not want to continue provoking the black cat, yet he dared not make any guarantees, only vaguely said: ”As long as Leviathan has no objections, I can completely reschedule... after all, we’re not some big society, not rigid with rules.”

Such an explanation couldn’t fully satisfy the black cat.

But it also knew this was the most sincere answer it could possibly hear. If that masked guy arbitrarily canceled the assessment, the black cat would rather doubt whether that ’Seven Sins’ society was as influential as he initially claimed.

”Leviathan?” The black cat ignored the nonsense following the Sin Bearer, focusing on the name he just mentioned.

It felt this name was somewhat familiar.

Soon, it recalled the Black Prison battle, where the huge, almost sky-covering leviathan was indeed named Leviathan—still, it could vividly recall that dark beast’s low roar, the giant pillar-like tentacles hanging from the sky, and the shattered clouds and sky of the Black Prison World caused by its collision.

”Leviathan!”

The black cat repeated the term, feeling its voice was distorted—not that it truly believed there’s a big shot like that in the Seven Sins, but even if it’s just a descendant of that giant beast’s bloodline, it’s frightening enough.

The masked wizard immediately understood the black cat’s excitement.

”No no no, it has nothing to do with that big guy.” The wizard waved his hand repeatedly and hurriedly explained: ”It’s ’Jealousy,’ Jealousy from the Seven Sins, codename Leviathan... just like how you once saw Pride, with codename Lucifer. Leviathan is a very lovely lady, not what you imagine.”

This explanation gave the black cat some reassurance.

Immediately, it realized another element from these words.
