High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1965: Chapter 186: The Fourth Zhou Saturday

The black cat wanted to ask a couple more questions, but suddenly, a voice sounded from not far behind: ”Who’s there!”

It looked in the direction of the voice and saw a faint green glow flickering outside the dark forest. Accompanying the glow was a gentle magical wave spreading in all directions, like a breeze.

It’s the Deadly Wind Lamp from the night patrol team.

With just one glance, the black cat identified the source of the faint green glow. Then, it realized that the subtle magical fluctuation must be from the patrollers using detection magic. It seemed the night patrol wizard had noticed the small commotion deeper in the woods and decided to take a quick look.

It turned back, intending to comfort the masked figure as an experienced companion, only to be surprised to find the person had already vanished without a trace.

At this moment, beneath the black cat’s feet, apart from the two pieces of parchment, there was an additional slender white slip of paper. With a flash of its cat eyes, using the dim moonlight filtering through the treetops, the scribbled words on the slip became clear—

”On the night of GuiYou Month, JiaXu Day at eleven-thirty in the same place.”

GuiYou Month JiaXu Day is September 26th, lunar August 8th, which is this Saturday. As for ’this place,’ the black cat looked around, taking in the similarly lush trees, eventually deciding to mark the spot with a trail of wet footprints beside the tree hollow where Ears Brother disappeared, to strengthen its memory.

Normally, cats wouldn’t assume such a strange posture.

But having watched many episodes of the animal world, the black cat found such a gesture quite ceremonious.

The footsteps of the night patrolling wizards gradually approached.

The black cat flicked its paw at the thick pieces of parchment, scooped them up with one swift move, and stuffed them into the grey cloth bag hidden under its jaw. Then it flicked its tail and swiftly disappeared into the dense underbrush.

Behind it, faint murmurs of confusion from the patrol team echoed but were no longer relevant to the black cat.

...

...

The experiences of becoming a cat on Wednesday night—particularly about the Seven Sins—Zheng Qing did not mention to anyone after returning to the dorm, not even to Xiao Xiao.

Not because he intended to hide anything from his companions.

Nor was his interest in the Seven Sins greater than his caution.

But rather because of a reason even he himself found hard to believe—he forgot—yes, when Zheng Qing stuffed the two pieces of proof and the slip of paper into the grey cloth bag, within less than five minutes, he almost completely forgot about the conversation and the night’s events, reverting to a domineering king on the cat fruit tree.

It wasn’t until Saturday night at eleven o’clock, half an hour before the appointed time on the slip, that the warlock suddenly remembered the matter, and at that time, he was the only one in dormitory 403.

Although it’s Saturday today and Dylan didn’t need to attend classes, his body, driven by the dual bloodlines of vampires and werewolves, kept urging him to go out strolling at night; Xin Fat Man was caught by Senior Linda to the campus newspaper office to prepare for the upcoming Moon Hunting report; as for Doctor Xiao, he was called to the office by Sima in the afternoon and hadn’t returned yet.

Besides Tuan Tuan and the sprites, Zheng Qing couldn’t find a third living being to discuss the matter at the moment. And he couldn’t expect a cat and a group of alchemical creatures to provide any reliable advice on such matters.

”Should I talk to Jiang Yu about this?” The young funded student looked at the ticking hands of the pocket watch in his hand uncertainly and glanced at the fat cat on the desk.

Tuan Tuan lazily licked its paw and meowed.

Zheng Qing turned to look at the sprites, and the lead sprite hesitated, circling in the air a few times before darting into the washroom, returning with a warm towel for Zheng Qing in a blink.

The warlock sighed deeply, giving up on communicating with the cat and sprites, ultimately deciding not to send a flying paper crane to Jiang Yufei—imagining clearly that the witch’s reply would use a very firm tone to stop him from going to the appointment.

”To go or not to go, that’s the question.”

Zheng Qing placed the pocket watch on the desk, looked at the ampoule bottle containing the transformation potion on the left side of the watch, then at the Philosophy of Magic exercise book on the right side, muttering to himself, ”...Firstly, the Seven Sins should be an unserious serious society; secondly, undoubtedly, they used some memory interference magic akin to a confusion spell on me without permission; finally, I didn’t explicitly indicate not attending that day... Silence, in some sense, represents consent... And keeping promises is a virtue acknowledged by all wizards. Especially as a funded student at school, I should lead by example!”

After a complex and convoluted self-persuasion, Zheng Qing cheerfully opened the ampoule bottle and drank a vial of transformation potion. Of course, during this process, the stack of thick exercise books didn’t interfere with the warlock’s correct judgment.

The process of turning into a cat was very brief and uneventful.

After transforming into a cat, the black cat put the pocket watch and the box containing the remaining transformation potion together into the grey cloth bag, then tucked the grey cloth bag wrapped in black gauze around its neck, using the slightly longer cat hair under its jaw to cover it securely.

As long as he didn’t lift the long hair under his neck or tear off the black gauze, no one could see the grey cloth bag already shrunk into a ball.

Before heading out of the window, the black cat braced its hind legs on the ground, rested its front legs on the window ledge, and called out toward the room, ”Tuan Tuan, if I’m not back by tomorrow morning, remember to report to the school... then go and find me near the cat fruit tree!”

After saying this, regardless of whether the fat cat had agreed, the black cat gave a strong push and vanished into the darkness outside the window.

The last message was just in case.

Zheng Qing had already made up his mind, no matter how eloquent that guy claiming to be the Sin Bearer might be, he definitely couldn’t follow him out of the school gates at night. And as long as he stayed within the school, with the Charm Gun and that little green snake’s protection, the warlock felt he could at least hold his ground even if a Big Wizard made a move.

...

...

When the black cat painstakingly hid the grey cloth bag under its long fur.

In another corner of the school, in Alpha Fortress, Sir Friedman had just walked out of the Karen family’s lounge. The midnight Alpha Fortress appeared unusually quiet, and in the spacious corridors, besides the occasional whispers of the paintings and murals on either side, there were barely any roaming ghosts.

Sir Friedman easily found an empty staircase, changed into a uniform, put on the ruby ring, crossed the white mist rising beneath the stairs, pushed open the bronze small door, and walked into the Seven Sins’ meeting room.

Behind the door, next to the meeting table, everything was ghostly empty.

On the ceiling, only a single candle was burning, with its faint light falling on the meeting table, illuminating a piece of parchment spread open. Sir Friedman picked up the parchment, on which the location for tonight’s meeting was marked.
