High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1951: Chapter 172: Recruitment

Upon hearing that those mutated Getrassi are immortal and can use the ’Shaman Curse’, the two in black robes exchanged a discreet glance.

Finally, Hilda confirmed again: ”Are you sure those Getrassi aren’t demons?”

”No demon aura.” Xiao Xiao shook his head.

Zheng Qing immediately added: ”I think those Getrassi are quite like the ogres we encountered in the trial grounds. Only more formidable.”

Very simply put, those ogres didn’t chase the young wizards into a retreat — of course, strictly speaking, the Atonement Hunting Team retreated to allow Zheng Qing to use large-scale lethal magic, slightly different from the trial situation.

Hilda nodded first, then gave Zheng Qing a doubtful glance.

That look made the young scholarship student feel uncomfortable all over.

”I’m just a bit curious,” the teaching assistant sized up Zheng Qing, clicking his tongue in wonder: ”You didn’t destroy that small hunting ground... is this progress from your nighttime training?”

The surroundings fell silent for a few seconds, then a wave of suppressed laughter immediately erupted. The magical envelope that had been surrounding the young wizards scattered with this laughter, becoming extremely faint.

Zheng Qing’s mouth twitched: ”No, sir, it’s just because I’m broke.”

”As can be seen, poverty isn’t entirely a bad thing.” Hilda showed an understanding expression, then shifted the conversation: ”Do you know where those Getrassi disappeared to in the end?”

Everyone, including Zheng Qing, turned their gaze to the diviner of the Atonement Hunting Team.

Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses: ”The exact location is unclear, what can be confirmed is they left the hunting ground only for a short distance... it can’t be ruled out that they returned to the hunting ground.”

The teaching assistant gave a slight nod.

The next second, his form flickered, suddenly appearing in the formation of the Atonement Hunting Team, placing a hand on Zheng Qing’s shoulder. The whole process took just a moment, and all the hunters of the Atonement hadn’t even had time to blink before the magical envelope of Solomon’s Battle Formation had already shattered into red lights, dissipating into the night.

”Looks good but is hollow, gold and jade on the outside.”

The practice teacher of Astronomy Class 08-1 briefly commented on the Atonement’s formation, noticing the shock in the young wizards’ eyes, he smiled reservedly: ”I told you before, if we wanted to attack, you couldn’t stop us with just this formation... alright, we understand the situation now, everyone else can go back early, tonight we’ll temporarily borrow your team leader.”

With that, his figure began to blur again.

Along with the shoulder he had his hand on, Zheng Qing’s figure also began to blur.

Only this time, he did not succeed.

A light azure halo flowed from Jiang Yu’s wrist, like a strip of blue silk, wrapping around Zheng Qing’s waist, binding him in place. Meanwhile, Xiao Xiao, at some point, had picked up a piece of semi-transparent turtle shell, spreading it open, a formation about a square yard, like a golden bell, enveloping the four within.

Bam!

A very clear impact sound came from the void.

Hilda staggered out from the void, holding his head and taking sharp breaths.

”Ouch!”

He hissed through his teeth, aggrievedly looked at Jiang Yu, deliberated for a few seconds, and then immediately turned to Zheng Qing, who wore an innocent expression, and then looked at Xiao Xiao, his original anger diminished significantly: ”...pointing out a flaw in your formation, did it really require wasting such a precious amulet?”

As he spoke, his peripheral vision glanced at the blue silk tied to the witch’s wrist.

Xiao Xiao held the turtle shell, sitting cross-legged on the ground, adjusted his glasses: ”Waste isn’t the right word... according to the relevant provisions of the ’First University Campus Management Regulations’, if the school wishes to ’requisition’ students, an application must be submitted to the Professor Joint Meeting, and reported to the School Works Committee.”

”Urgent matters require extraordinary measures!” The teaching assistant rubbed his forehead, somewhat headache-inducing.

”They’re probably doubting our identities,” came another black-robed wizard’s helpless voice nearby: ”I suggest you sign a contract... or provide some sort of proof.”

Hilda looked at the sound, only to find his companion standing obediently with his hands raised, unmoving. Blue Bird stood to the right, her sword tip pointing at his waist, Dylan on the left, hand on his shoulder, his fingernails extended about three inches long.

Seeing his surroundings again, outside the golden bell barrier, Xin Fat Man’s whole body glowed blue, his form expanding and contracting with his breath, and Zhang Ji Xin’s face was like fire, his panting breath clearly visible even in the pitch-black night.

The practice instructor clicked his tongue, first chastising his companion: ”Just let them capture you like that?”

”Did you expect me to fight them?” the black-robed wizard cocked his head: ”Winning would mean being disciplined by the school and parents; losing would mean being laughed at by you all.”

This statement unexpectedly made sense.

Even Zheng Qing couldn’t help but take a couple more looks at the teaching assistant.

Hilda touched his own earring, glanced down, a yellowed parchment had already been thrust before his nose, the edges of the paper flickered with tiny sparks, within which rows of twisted and complex runes could be faintly seen, though upon closer inspection, nothing could be seen.

The contract’s terms were simple: the first acknowledged the identities of both parties; the second requisitioned Zheng Qing as an assistant to investigate, for a period of three hours, at the behest of the Assistant Team; the third arranged a new hunting ground for the Atonement Hunting Team to use as a training ground before the school hunting party, as compensation for aiding in this investigation.

The requirements weren’t difficult, the only issue being that this contract was clearly no ordinary contract, but a powerful one capable of binding a Great Wizard level entity.

”You’re dead next class... just a trivial matter, is it worth wasting like this?” The teaching assistant muttered, grabbing the feather pen Xiao Xiao offered and signing his name on it. The stroke of the pen ignited a trail of firelight, leaving behind a scorched black name.

This signified endorsement by contract magic inspection, verifying both the signer’s identity and intent were genuine and accurate.

The young wizards of the Atonement Hunting Team collectively breathed a sigh of relief.

”Well done.”

As Hilda returned the feather pen to Xiao Xiao, he winked and self-praised: ”Clearly, you’ve put everything I said in class into action... Jiang Da Headmaster, can it be released now?”

Jiang Yu pursed her lips, her wrist quivered slightly as she withdrew the strip of blue silk.

Xiao Xiao also tucked the turtle shell back into his bosom.

”Hunting team, return to campus as planned, I’ll come back a bit later.” Zheng Qing nodded reassuringly at Jiang Yu, adding: ”Don’t worry, this island is quite safe.”

”This island has never been peaceful.”

Hilda muttered, once more placing a hand on Zheng Qing’s shoulder, his companion moved to Zheng Qing’s other side, likewise placing his hand on his shoulder.

A very subtle magical fluctuation rippled through.

The three of them gradually blurred in the patches of sunlight cast by the mushrooms, until they disappeared from the spot.
