High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1954: Chapter 175: Zheng the Quasimodo

”Sorry, my request might be a bit sudden.”

She smiled politely as well, and then nonchalantly stabbed the warlock: ”I just heard you’re close with Cousin Elena, so I thought she was in your hunting team... I could take her place.”

Zheng Qing’s mouth twitched.

He never knew there was such a connection between Carmen and Elena. He’d always heard that the kinship relations within The Gypsy Witch Coven were very complex, and it seems the situation is even more perplexing than described in books.

”Elena... is not in our hunting team.” Mentioning this name, the warlock’s mood subconsciously turned a bit somber; perhaps he himself didn’t notice, but Jiang Yu beside him immediately did.

”She joined Matthew’s hunting team last year, you can ask Matthew.” The witch frowned slightly, scrutinizing the Gypsy witch whose figure was similar to hers, her gaze landing on the witch’s bright red lips and wavy long hair, adding, ”Students need to pay attention to appearance and can’t wear heavy makeup, as clearly stipulated in the school’s management regulations.”

”Sorry, I’m a transfer student, no one told me about these things when I entered the school.” The Gypsy witch looked apologetic: ”And no one reminded me before, so...”

Perhaps it was an illusion, but Zheng Qing felt as if someone cast a silent ’Yin Qi Lei’ from afar, a tingling and chilling atmosphere permeating the air.

”Matthew doesn’t plan to form a hunting team this year... I heard his team’s qualification assessment didn’t pass.” Not far behind, Xin Fat Man’s voice filled with mischief came through — when it comes to gossip, journalists always run fast.

Zheng Qing turned his head and glared at him fiercely.

The fat wizard wore an innocent look and spread his hands: ”Just happened to overhear... By the way, a notification from the student council asks the Atonement Hunting Team leader to go to the student council office for a meeting about next month’s school hunting competition, now.”

Zheng Qing’s anger turned to joy, the gloom on his face vanished instantly, replaced with full gratitude. Xin Fat Man sneered contemptuously but said no more.

”Why was the notification sent to you?” The young cost student intended to be reserved, casting a glance at the monitor beside him: ”I thought student council notifications were sent to the monitors.”

”Probably because we run faster!” The fat wizard rolled his eyes, urging: ”Are you going or not? If not, hand over the captain position to me first... I can go for you.”

The latter suggestion was purely a joke.

Zheng Qing glanced at Carmen with slight hesitation, the Gypsy witch was very understanding, smiling slightly: ”Since you have something to attend to, I won’t disturb you.”

”I’m taking Li Meng to the library.” Jiang Yu chimed in almost simultaneously.

Zheng Qing let out two dry laughs and fled in haste.

Behind him loomed the faint complaints of the little witch, followed by her painful screams after being dealt with by her cousin.

Once he escaped the teaching building and ran to the lakeside of Bell Lake, Zheng Qing finally breathed a sigh of relief, turning to look at the fat wizard: ”You really came through today... I’ll bring you a roast chicken tonight!”

Full of sincerity.

”Is your... little life... worth just twenty... copper coins?” Xin Fat Man asked breathlessly, intermittently.

”It’s twenty-four.” The young cost student solemnly corrected: ”I don’t remember the cafeteria lowering the price of roast chicken... Besides, did the student council really ask me for a meeting?”

”I did help you out, but I didn’t make it up.” The fat wizard wiped his sweaty forehead, his breath slightly more even: ”Since the campus newspaper office is very close to the student council office, Senior Linda knew I was from Atonement, so she asked me to inform you... speaking of which.”

Here, the fat man deliberately paused, and after seeing Zheng Qing’s puzzled gaze, he revealed a mischievous smile: ”You just now in the classroom looked particularly like Quasimodo.”

Quasimodo is a character in ”Notre Dame de Paris,” known for his geometric face, square nose, and protruding mouth, being a famously ugly character in literary history.

Zheng Qing was not aware the fat man had read the book.

He immediately sensitively denied it: ”No, Quasimodo avenged Esmeralda, personally ending the life of the archdeacon Claude, and joined Esmeralda in death... none of which I can do.”

Esmeralda was also a Gypsy witch; Zheng Qing thought Xin’s words carried a deeper meaning. He didn’t think he had the ability to delve into the starry sky to bother Satoguya at the moment.

The fat wizard raised his eyebrows in surprise.

”No, no, no, not that profound.” He quickly raised his stubby forefinger, wavering it: ”You should be more superficial, more superficial... I meant, you looked like Quasimodo just now sandwiched between the two witches.”

This time, Zheng Qing got what the fat man wanted to express —

Means he looked utterly ridiculous.

”Hey, he’s a good guy!” The young cost student looked displeased, retorting again: ”A noble person above petty interests... only to suffer unfair treatment.”

Giving oneself a Good Guy Card, he was inherently in an invincible position.

”Everything you said is right, absolutely right.” Xin Fat Man raised both hands, abandoning any further teasing.

Meanwhile, the two had already crossed Lin Zhong Lake, stepping into the tree-lined path leading to the office building.

On this late autumn afternoon, the sunlight was still somewhat intense, and many small animals lazily hid under the trees, enjoying this pleasant time.

When the two warlocks walked past the third sycamore tree.

Zheng Qing finally couldn’t help but sigh, looking at Xin Fat Man: ”If you’ve got something to say, just say it directly... fidgeting all the time, it’s not like your style.”

From earlier, he had noticed the fat wizard wanting to speak yet hesitating, which made him feel like a sneeze stuck in his chest, itching to come out, truly uncomfortable.

”You said it.” Receiving a positive response, the fat man obviously relaxed, saying unreservedly: ”I just heard that Carmen was looking for Elena... Recently, she seems to have asked many people and investigated quite a bit before finding you... doesn’t seem like someone taking a sick leave, as you mentioned before...”

Saying so, he snuck a glance at the young cost student, whispering: ”...Elena was summoned back due to affairs within The Gypsy Witch Coven, if that’s the case, Carmen should have been aware of Elena’s departure, right.”

Zheng Qing steadily walked under the shade, occasionally greeting a familiar cat by the roadside, even managing to walk along the seams of the blue stone slab, his steps perfectly steady.

It wasn’t until the fat wizard finished speaking that he succinctly replied: ”We are not Gypsy witches, we shouldn’t meddle in The Gypsy Witch Coven’s affairs. All I know is that Elena is safe now... Oh, get me a lunch, just bring it to the office building, student council meetings usually don’t take long. Finishing the meal we still have to head to the library.”

With that, not waiting for Xin Fat Man to say more, he waved his hand, darting towards the entrance of the office building like a gust of wind.
