High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1953: Chapter 174: The Fourth Monday

Zheng Qing did not know of the figures that reappeared in the Hunting Ground after they left.

Similarly, he was unaware if the two teaching assistants who had sent him to the academy had returned to the Hunting Ground again.

The world outside everyone’s view always exists between reality and nonexistence. Only when they intersect for a moment, when the known covers the unknown, does the world seem real.

The following two days of the weekend were bland, with nothing happening.

Except for Zheng Qing once again transforming into a cat to meet at the Cat Fruit Tree on Saturday night. This was his third transformation in a month. The Transformation Potion provided by the school seemed to develop resistance gradually. At the same time, Zheng Qing’s mastery of transfiguration magic was getting more proficient, to the extent that he vaguely felt that simply smelling the potion’s scent could successfully transform him into a cat.

In this subtle state, he needed some reliable advice from an ’authoritative wizard’.

But the project chaired by Professor Yao became busier at the weekend. Over Saturday and Sunday, Zheng Qing visited the office building several times, but the professor’s office door remained locked. Even Shen Tu Yu Lei, who usually played cards by the door frame, was nowhere to be seen. Only a ’Big White Cat’ lay idly at the edge of the door lock, dozing.

”Since it’s related to magic potions, why not ask Professor Li?” Xiao Xiao gave Zheng Qing a seemingly reliable suggestion. At the time, they were in the dormitory, watching Xin Fat Man grooming Tuan Tuan on the desk.

The fat cat purrs contently, while the sprites happily collect the cat fur falling on the desk, weaving it into a soft mat and stuffing it into the house made of hard paper.

”Perhaps because transfiguration is within the domain of curses.” Zheng Qing replied gloomily.

If given a choice, he would rather face Old Yao, who had elevated to a legendary demon, than step into the Potion Making Professor’s office again—the smell of pickled herring mixed with the rotting grass and Fish Wives’ innards had made Professor Li’s office a forbidden place for all students at First University.

Almost every student believes Professor Li Qihuang has lost his sense of smell, yet Potion Making requires a very sensitive olfactory ability. This intense contradiction combined with the progressively intense odor in the professor’s office forces every student intending to enter that office to summon great courage.

As Zheng Qing knows, each year, only at the end and beginning of semesters, after failing a course, do students brace themselves to enter that office—since make-up exams typically occur in the professor’s office. Students opting to retake the course tend to wait at the classroom door after the Magic Potion Class concludes to request the professor’s signature on their retake application form.

”The student council has always wanted to install a high-power fume hood in Professor Li’s office.” Xin Fat Man said lazily, while brushing Tuan Tuan’s fur, ”...But the professor disagrees, reportedly because he believes training one’s smell in a complex odor environment helps enhance the ability to distinguish subtle differences in various potions.”

”The sighs of Melpomene.” Zheng Qing let out a lengthy sigh—he could now naturally use such wizard slang.

”Professor Yi is also quite adept in transfiguration.” Xiao Xiao offered a second suggestion.

This time, Zheng Qing hesitated a little, but still chose to refuse, ”Let’s wait and see... It’s not a pressing matter. Besides, Professor Yi is very busy.”

Nonetheless, the real reason for the warlock’s refusal lies in that Professor Yi is a Great Divinor—he has too many secrets he doesn’t want others to know. The more he understands the Wizard World, the more he knows about Divination Skill and diviners, the more cautious he becomes in dealing with wizards skilled in divination.

Xiao Xiao was an exception; his level was still quite limited.

At the very least, the origin of the little green snake in Zheng Qing’s ear or the fact that Zheng Qing is a ticking bomb, Doctor Xiao does not know these dire matters.

”Wonder if Old Yao will attend this class meeting.” The young cost student sighed deeply, not holding much hope in his heart.

His prediction was accurate.

Not only did Old Yao continue to miss the class meeting on Sunday night, but even the Magic Curse class on Monday morning used the same projection teaching method as the last class—the rigid shadow only answered questions related to the course and did not even smoke a pipe.

Zheng Qing had no choice but to intercept Tang Dun after class.

”I want to find...”

”Professor Yao?” Tang Headmaster helpfully finished his sentence and handed over a blank parchment: ”On this, write down what you wish to ask... The professor will likely respond within one working day... Jiang Yu can manage this, too. Why don’t you try her? Aren’t you two quite close?”

Zheng Qing never knew that this guy with thick eyebrows and big eyes was also so into gossip.

”She’s busy!” The young cost student replied gruffly, commanding his Feather Pen to swiftly copy the pre-written question onto the parchment.

The parchment automatically curled itself, rolling up into a scroll.

Tang Dun tied the scroll with a red silk ribbon and displayed it extensively in front of Zheng Qing: ”See clearly? Apart from the professor, no one else can view your questions.”

Zheng Qing hadn’t realized this detail but was very pleased with this wizard tradition of emphasizing privacy.

Putting away the Feather Pen, the warlock glanced around, looking for Xiao Xiao and the others.

Then a tall figure blocked his view.

It was the newly arrived Gypsy witch.

”Hello,” she spoke in a hoarse voice similar to Elena’s, even carrying a scent similar to hers, and greeted warmly: ”I heard you have an outstanding Hunting Team, and I’d like to join. What are the requirements?”

Zheng Qing was caught off guard by this sudden application.

While hesitating, a calm voice from beside him responded: ”I’m very sorry, but the Absolution Hunting Team is already overflowing. Even if you join the team, it’s hard to get a chance to participate in next month’s Hunting Competition... You might have to sit on the bench for a long time.”

Zheng Qing didn’t need to turn around to know who spoke.

”That’s right, the team is overflowing now.” The warlock immediately expressed his stance firmly: ”And we have no plans to recruit new hunters this year... Very sorry.”

He then turned around, looking at Jiang Yu, his face full of smiles.

Jiang Da Headmaster lowered her eyelids, grooming the sleek hair of the student in front of her, Li Meng, as if she was not the one who had just spoken. Li Meng rolled her eyes at Zheng Qing, looking triumphant as if she caught him sneaking snacks.

Carmen paused, her gaze twirled around between the warlock and the witch, and immediately became aware of the situation in her heart.
