High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1969: Chapter 90: The Fifth Monday

What is fairness?

For Alpha people, fairness is equal opportunity; the existence of unfairness is the greatest fairness in the world. For Jiuyou people, fairness is justice first, equality second; under divine will, all beings are equal. For Stellarians, fairness is the interweaving of iron and blood in the arena, a contest of life and death. For Atlans, fairness is a multi-dimensional concept, existing only in the deepest part of each person’s heart.

”A thousand wizards have a thousand views on fairness, especially here on Buji Island, at the First University, the place with the most complex thoughts and population structure in the wizard world.”

Xiao Xiao was holding a piece of red velvet cloth, sitting cross-legged on the ground, carefully polishing the crystal ball in his arms while casually analyzing matters related to the preliminary selection of the school hunting competition.

It’s now 8:30 in the evening, Monday, September 28 in the Gregorian calendar, August 10 in the lunar calendar.

It’s also Monday of the fifth week of the semester.

The Absolution Hunting Team is conducting a new round of night training in preparation for the upcoming Moon Hunting.

Not far from Xiao Xiao, Zheng Qing was lying on the ground, making up his morning’s Curse Course homework. Time was always insufficient for him, and he had to seize every possible moment to prioritize completing the most important task for a student.

Jiang Yu was sitting next to the warlock, hugging a Law book, holding a feather pen in one hand, sketching on it, seemingly planning magic that might be used later.

—The way she frowns is really attractive. The young cost student looked up and stretched when he saw the witch’s frowns, unwittingly feeling bewildered inside, and a silly smile appeared on his face.

A dry cough from Xin Fat Man interrupted the hunting team leader’s thoughts, and he turned around to face the mischievous yet anxious face of the fat wizard.

The mischief was directed at the warlock’s little thoughts, the anxiety because of the unfinished manuscript he held.

”Have you seen my feather pen?” The fat wizard gritted his teeth somewhat and said, ”I bet there’s definitely a pen-stealing elf hidden around here... I’ve already lost three feather pens!”

Zheng Qing found his frantic searching rather amusing—the young cost student wouldn’t tell the fat wizard that there were precisely three feather pens of different colors tucked behind his ear.

On the other side, Zhang Ji Xin had a chessboard-like object in front of him, a game representing the hunting team’s tactics, wherein five pieces representing Absolution were arranged in the standard Father Bo formation, facing a three-headed Fire Dragon. The red-faced male wizard looked serious, weighing a reserve piece, seemingly hesitant about replacing a hunter on the board.

Meanwhile, Dylan was hanging upside down under a tall oak tree, his wide robe resembling a bat’s wings, ignoring the pull of gravity, hung over his head creating a small, nap-friendly environment.

”So, what do you think the school’s design will be for this preliminary school hunting competition?” An old-fashioned voice interrupted Zheng Qing’s thoughts, questioning the Absolution Hunting Team’s diviner.

The voice belonged to Zhu Si—at this moment, she took on the appearance of a little witch, the red Philosopher’s Stone on her forehead glowing faintly in the moonlight, complementing her bright eyes and eager expression, making her look particularly imposing.

To Zhu Si’s left sat Li Meng, who was looking at her companion with complete trust, nodding repeatedly, as if every word Zhu Si said was the truth.

On her right was Lin Guo, who was sitting uneasily, frequently glancing backward.

Originally, only Jiang Yu was notified for tonight’s Absolution training, but due to Li Meng’s recent high ’inspiration,’ for safety’s sake, Jiang Yu brought Li Meng along. Zhu Si, who came to hang out with Li Meng, heard about the Absolution Hunting Team’s training and tagged along. As for Lin Guo, since he still served as Absolution’s manager, it made no sense to leave him out of the training, so they simply notified him to observe the hunting team training.

Xiao Xiao glanced at the three little listeners sitting in front, listening to his analysis of the school hunting competition intelligence, feeling inexplicably a bit lost. Responding, he waved his hand dismissively and said casually, ”How would I know the school’s plan?”

”Aren’t you a diviner?” Zhu Si pursued, ”I’m not asking you to be perfectly accurate... Just a guess, it won’t hurt.”

”Losing a piece of meat is nothing—apply some Bai Xian mixed with snake oil, and it grows back overnight.” Xin Fat Man interjected upon hearing this: ”But privately divining such ’big matters’ like the hunting competition plan isn’t something losing a piece of meat can resolve.”

”A bunch of cowards!”

Zhu Si crossed her arms, looking at the Watermelon Head in front of her with contempt, raising her chin, her tone carrying a hint of pride: ”Let me tell you... Do you know about the ’Flame Cup’? It’s a high-tier magical artifact burning with the ’flame of fairness,’ and it’s said that it will be used as the judge for this school hunting competition preliminary. All you need to do is throw the paper with the hunting team’s name into the Flame Cup, and it will spit out the list of qualifying hunting teams!”

Upon hearing the familiar term, Zheng Qing, who was doing homework, couldn’t help but raise his head and look at the little witch with pride, feeling a bit at a loss.

Before he could speak, Xiao Xiao was surprised and asked, ”Where did you hear about this method?”

”Don’t underestimate me! I’m now a lecturer at the First University too!” Zhu Si patted her flat chest forcefully, showing confidence: ”... As for where, naturally in the professors’ office! If it weren’t for a good relationship, I wouldn’t tell you guys!”

Implying inside and out, you guys are gaining a lot and must treat me to a meal.

Zheng Qing finally couldn’t help but laugh: ”I guess, haven’t you read that biography novel written by Ms. Rowling? That book is quite interesting...”

He had guessed that the professors in the office must have been joking with this ’new lecturer,’ otherwise such an amusing concept as the ’Flame Cup’ wouldn’t have been brought up.

Zhu Si looked suspiciously at the young cost student, seemingly sensing some malicious fun in his laughter.

Xiao Xiao cleared his throat, interrupting: ”Indeed, we can’t rule out such a possibility... Of course, I’m not saying using the ’Flame Cup,’ that’s just Ms. Rowling’s fabrication... I mean magical tools with similar ’justice’ effects, like the ’Judgement Scale’ housed in the Jiuyou College Museum, or the host of the starry arena, the ’Bronze Beast,’ are very good choices.”

”We wouldn’t mind at all if hunting teams from other academies come for a round at the starry arena.” Dylan, hanging on the tree, poked his head out of the robe, supplementing with a yawn.

Zheng Qing also realized his previous laughter was somewhat inappropriate, hastily added: ”Magic excels at creating miracles, but isn’t suited for creating fairness... Comparatively, fairness involving mathematical concepts is more likely to be adopted by the school.”
