High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1957: Chapter 178: Whose Cheese Is Being Moved

Accompanied by the minutes of the brief meeting at noon being spread, the various measures by the Hunting Committee to reform this year’s school hunting competition seemed like a stone thrown into the calm surface of a lake, turning into ripples and quickly spreading.

The whole afternoon, almost everyone was discussing this matter.

Library, study room, before Fu Lu class, after Fu Lu class, in the cafeteria, at the lakeside of Bell Lake, etc., everywhere Zheng Qing passed by, classmates were gathered in groups, passionately discussing this topic. Perhaps only the fishmen at the lake bottom and those longevity tortoises by the lakeside were uninterested in this matter.

Just as he had guessed.

Most students in the school responded very positively to the student council’s reform measures. There are quite a few young wizards who like the hunting competition. In previous school hunting competitions, most people could only indulge their imaginations from the stands, but this time, almost everyone has the opportunity to compete for the Campus Cup, and everyone’s enthusiasm was suddenly ignited.

Just need to find four or five friends, organize a hunting team, and you have a chance to win that hefty trophy!

Just thinking about it makes one excited.

Admittedly, the chances of a newly formed hunting team winning the championship are minimal, but just like betting, as long as there is one in ten thousand hope, it’s worth putting a hundred percent effort into it, not to mention the cost of doing this is not high.

Even if the hunting competition fails, it is not without gain, because each hunting team participating in the school hunting competition can leave a prominent record in their profile and also have academic credits to earn — in previous years, those ’non-competition personnel’ could only obtain meager credits through Hunting Dance, Hunting Songs, and volunteer services around the hunting competition.

”Does the school have that many credits to pay all the hunting teams?”

During the night talk in dormitory 403, Xin Fat Man leaned against the pillow sitting by the bed, editing an article on his knee while grumbling: ”...I heard this afternoon that not only Tang Dun and Matthew’s hunting teams are being reformed, even Nicholas intends to gather a hunting team to join the fun.”

A flower pot was placed by the bed with a slender luminescent mushroom growing inside, nodding its head under the faint moonlight, occasionally emitting a slender ray of sunlight, maintaining the lighting for the Fat Wizard’s article editing.

”Nicholas? Why is he joining the fun... He shouldn’t be allowed to take a large number of frog sacrifices to the hunting ground,” Zheng Qing said, smacking his lips, staring at the ampoule bottle in his hand.

The bottle contained transformation potion, and Zheng Qing was pondering whether to transform into a cat tonight and wander around. It would be best to find that little tortoiseshell from noon and give it a lesson.

Due to frequently using transformation potions and transformation techniques, Zheng Qing became extremely sensitive to such magic potions. Although he hadn’t opened the bottle cap yet, just looking at the bubbling liquid inside through the bottle, he felt itchy all over, with an urge for cat fur to emerge from under his skin.

The young student couldn’t help but scratch in reverse.

”Nicholas might not need frogs,” Xiao Xiao, as usual playing the role of the explainer, reminded: ”You should remember the ring he wore in the trial arena... It is said that Sister Korma and Doctor Duzem teamed up to research a low-configuration version of the Philosopher’s Stone, which can satisfy the trickster’s magic power demand.”

”The Philosopher’s Stone is a special magical tool, not allowed in the hunting ground either.” As a campus journalist, Xin Fat Man was highly sensitive to any topic and immediately found a reasonable argument to refute.

”Perhaps.”

The diviner from Absolution did not argue with his companion on this matter, although separated by two layers of curtains, Zheng Qing still felt that he saw Xiao Xiao raise his hand to adjust his glasses: ”The Philosopher’s Stone is special, and Northern District Wizards are equally special... The school originally struggled with Sister Korma’s request to increase Northern District Wizards’ admission quota, so it would certainly be flexible on such indifferent matters. Just like you mentioned the issue of credits, also belongs to the range of flexible adaptation... Who told you that this year’s hunting teams would be rewarded with credits based on last year’s amount?”

This rhetorical question rendered the Fat Wizard speechless for a moment.

For a long time, the luminescent mushroom in the flowerpot by the bedside emitted a pigeon egg-sized ray of sunlight, which shattered with a bang, and Xin Fat Man’s murmuring voice resumed: ”Couldn’t it be...”

”No, it could be indeed.” This time, Zheng Qing sided with Xiao Xiao, expressing his opinion: ”The simple meeting at noon was just a preliminary notice, and a series of detailed policies following should be adjusted subtly according to the students’ reactions... The student council’s discretionary power on this matter should be great.”

”If not great, they couldn’t do such a thing.” Fat Man snorted: ”Waiting for subsequent reactions before adjusting policies, what about the student council’s diviners? Are they all dead? Shouldn’t such things be divined clearly before the policies come out... Um, that’s also a good point of attack, let me jot it down.”

Immediately, the sound of a feather pen rustling on parchment echoed in the dormitory.

”Why are you reacting so strongly to this matter?” Zheng Qing was a bit puzzled by Fat Man’s reaction: ”Even if hunting team registration is open, there won’t be too many changes regarding who ends up in the hunting ground... your cheese hasn’t been moved.”

”No, it did.” Fat Man’s voice carried some resentment: ”All the pre-prepared articles need rewriting, almost all need rewriting... Do you think I’m growing a luminescent mushroom so late at night for what?”

Whoosh!

The slender mushroom nodded its head again, spitting out a pigeon egg-sized ray of sunlight, bright and illuminating the small corner of the dormitory.

Zheng Qing felt a pang of sympathy: ”Even so...”

”The timing and extent of the student council’s actions were just right.” Xiao Xiao’s voice echoed again, and Zheng Qing immediately shut his mouth and perked his ears: ”...There have been calls for reforming the Academy Cup for a long time. Among the three major events in the wizard world, the World Cup, and the Zeus Cup can attract hunting teams from large guilds in the New World to participate, with hunting targets often reaching Great Demon level, and the rewards are overwhelmingly lavish. In comparison, the Academy Cup has always been self-indulgent, not only is the scale and popularity far inferior, but the difficulty of the hunting competition is also not on par... If it weren’t for the reputation of the First University, the Academy Cup would have long declined.”

”But how to change, and from where to change, has always been a focus of discussion. This time, the student council did well; the knife first cut itself. Because the twenty-odd hunting teams registered in the school are the biggest beneficiaries under the current system, as long as they don’t oppose, this reform shouldn’t be difficult to push through.”

”Hard to say.” Xin Fat Man hummed lightly: ”As far as I know, there’s quite a controversy regarding this matter in Alpha Fortress. Besides being annoyed by such changes disturbing the ’order,’ there’s also entanglements in terms of interests... for instance, betting outside the hunting competition has always been one of the Blood Comrades’ biggest sources of income.”

”On the contrary.” The diviner from Absolution smiled: ”Alpha Fortress will be the biggest promoter of this reform this time.”

”Because of Sepulano?” Zheng Qing had a sudden insight and instinctively analyzed: ”Sepulano has always wanted to change some inherent orders of Alpha Fortress... starting with the school hunting competition, might just be a small probe for him.”
