High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 134: Chapter 58 This is not a Transaction _1

In real life, if a lady went to great lengths to seek information related to you, this represented a very clear signal to every man- it meant that this lady was very interested in you.

When Elena clearly stated that she was divining something related to Zheng Qing, our young male witch was suddenly surrounded by an immense sense of happiness.

He didn’t even care about the content of her divination.

If it weren’t for his desire to maintain an image in front of Elena, Zheng Qing might already be up on his toes doing a twist dance.

”What do you want to know, you can ask me?” He looked at the Gypsy witch, his eyes sparkling, his voice unusually loud, ”The mists can’t explain it as clearly as I can.”

With that, he stirred the smoke swirling in mid-air with his fingers.

The bluish-white smoke was quickly dispersing under his manipulation.

”But,” the witch looked somewhat surprised and touched, ”What if you refuse!”

”Absolutely impossible!” Zheng Qing immediately denied Elena’s concern without a second thought, and quickly answered: ”You are so beautiful, so who would refuse you?”

His flattery was right on the spot.

An expression of delight spread across the witch’s face.

”So,” Elena fiddled with her fingers, looking somewhat nervous, ”I would like to ask if you could take me as an apprentice.”

”Did you say... what?” For a moment, Zheng Qing was a bit taken aback, standing there with his mouth open, trying futilely to understand the meaning behind Elena’s words.

But clearly, he was a bit stunned by the witch’s unusual request.

It would be perfect in his imagination if Elena asked the question ’Do you have a girlfriend?’

If the witch was only interested in his heritage and asked questions such as ’Who is your mentor’, Zheng Qing had expected this too - he was even prepared to betray Mr. Wu.

In spite of their unfamiliarity, if she asked for ’Could you help me draw some talismans’, it still fell within the parameters of his expectations.

However, Elena’s words obviously went beyond all his expectations.

Describing his current expression as dumbfounded could not be more apt.

”I want to acknowledge you as my master,” Elena’s seriousness showed in her demeanor, and she repeated very seriously: ”I hope you can teach me about talismans.”

Zheng Qing closed his mouth and fell silent.

Silence, what a silence.

There’s no explosive revelation in this silence.

He’d rather die in this silence.

Yet reality is so cruel, after a long silence, he still existed in good health.

The girl opposite showed no signs of backing down, staring firmly at him.

Zheng Qing gathered his courage and looked up at Elena, shaking his head.

The witch sighed slightly, not surprised by this response, as if she had expected to be refused.

Zheng Qing’s face turned red, feeling extremely ashamed.

Something he had just proudly promised was going to be negated by him in a blink of an eye. There was nothing more embarrassing than this.

”I understand.” Elena looked towards the dispersing smoke, her face barely hiding her disappointment.

Zheng Qing had no words in response.

Even if she asked him to draw hundreds of standard talismans for her, he would agree without hesitation.

Because he could make the decision on this matter himself.

The consequences would bring nothing more than a few extra drops of sweat and less leisure time.

But accepting her as an apprentice was not something he could agree to.

Although he indeed had selfish motives - if he were to take Elena as an apprentice, those motives would likely die in his heart.

More importantly, he had not yet become a fully-fledged wizard himself.

The matter of accepting an apprentice was not up to him.

For wizards who value heritage and knowledge, the relationship between master and apprentice has always been one of the closest ones, second only to blood ones.

Even though his time in the wizarding world was short, Zheng Qing already had a certain understanding of these matters.

”All my knowledge of talismans has been taught to me by my teacher, without his permission, I cannot easily accept disciples,” Zheng Qing lowered his head and explained in almost a whisper. ”Also, my teacher has not yet allowed me to graduate.”

Elena did not speak.

The atmosphere between the two was somewhat awkward.

”Although I can’t accept you as an apprentice, I can tutor your talisman studies.” Zheng Qing suddenly looked up, breaking the silence between them: ”In exchange, you can teach me ancient divination techniques.”

Elena looked up in surprise at him.

Zheng Qing pursed his lips and nodded firmly.

He didn’t break the tradition of the wizard - technically speaking, he had only transformed Elena’s request into a trade.

However, for wizards who believe in equivalent exchange, the trade proposed by Zheng Qing was not quite balanced.

The Gypsy witch obviously noticed this.

She looked at the young male witch with some emotion, and then shook her head.

”It shouldn’t be a trade.” She said slowly in a hoarse voice. ”And moreover, it’s not a good trade.”

”Trade was never the point,” Zheng Qing smiled, looking at the witch in front of him.

The two fell silent once again.

A few elves named Hehe screamed and shot down from the ceiling, landing on the smooth marble counter.

They were pulling huge bamboo baskets, and clumsily rushed towards the Multi-arm tribe attendant.

”Hehe ... Hehe...”

As they passed by Zheng Qing, he noticed a few cigarettes scattered in one of the baskets.

He had an idea, and picked one up.

”Can I borrow a light?” Zheng Qing smiled at the witch: ”Perhaps you can start teaching me some basics of ancient divination right now.”

Before Elena could answer, a small elf had already rushed over.

She waved her tiny hands, produced a thin flame, and helped Zheng Qing light up his cigarette.

Then, this little elf landed on his shoulder as if she had done something great, rubbing against his earlobe and ’hehe’ing non-stop.

Her companions paused, looking at their companion on Zheng Qing’s shoulder with envy.

”They really like you.” The Multi-arm Tribe Attendant came over and smiled: ”If I’m not mistaken, you’ve received the blessings of the elves... for these pure yet fragile creatures, it is a great honor.”

Zheng Qing held his cigarette and turned his stiff neck to look at the little elves, with a trace of guilt on his face.

”I haven’t done that...” His voice was too soft to hear, the witch in front of him didn’t even hear what he was saying.

Only the little elf next to his ear, seemingly sensing the fluctuations in his heart, comforted him with her warm little hand, patting his earlobe lightly.

”Hehe, Hehe...” The soft comfort tugged at his heartstrings, and Zheng Qing couldn’t help feeling down.

”Stop bothering our guests.” The multi-arm tribe’s servant placed one arm onto the counter, beckoning the little elves to climb up: ”You can rest on top of the cabinet for a while”.

After saying that, he flashed an apologetic smile at Zheng Qing.
