High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 113: Chapter 37 Spirit Witch_1

”Li Meng!” A somewhat stern voice sounded not far away.

Zheng Qing looked towards the sound, seeing Jiang Yu hurriedly trotting over.

She was dressed in a plain turquoise straight-necked dress that reached her waist, with two Biyu Prohibition Steps tied around it. As she trotted, the tassels on the Biyu swung cheerfully, and the two jade pieces struck each other with a jingling sound.

This wasn’t like her usual, regally composed demeanor. Zheng Qing was slightly curious.

Jiang Yu rushed to the bar, took the drink from Li Meng’s hand, and then looked at Li Meng nervously: ”Who let you drink? How much did you have? Are you feeling uncomfortable?”

Zheng Qing felt a chill down his spine.

This young lady must not have any alcohol problems. If something were to happen, he would definitely be in big trouble!

Li Meng’s face was lightly flushed, her eyes somewhat hazy. Hearing Jiang Yu’s questions, she pouted and said, ”Just had a sip. Gave the rest to Li Neng.”

Li Neng?

Zheng Qing looked towards the fluffy bear, who blinked its glassy eyes, his face looking amusingly innocent.

”Come here?!” Jiang Yu grabbed the fluffy bear by the ear and lifted it in front of her eyes to sniff at its mouth.

The fluffy bear obediently curled up, not daring to move.

”Hmm?” She frowned, looked at Li Meng again.

Li Meng didn’t seem to expect that her lie would be exposed so quickly. She stuck out her tongue and collapsed onto the bar.

Jiang Yu cried out in alarm, rushing in to check.

”She can’t drink?” Zheng Qing cautiously asked from behind her.

What a useless question.

As soon as he said it, Zheng Qing wanted to slap himself.

After a quick check, she found out that Li Meng had just fallen asleep. Jiang Yu breathed a sigh of relief, stood up, glanced at Zheng Qing, and explained simply: ”She is a Spirit Witch.”

There was a low gasp among the crowd.

Zheng Qing took a deep breath.

We are in trouble.

He was no longer a novice in the wizard world. He had some understanding of what a Spirit Witch is.

The term Spirit Witch does not refer to clever and agile witches but to ’spiritual’ witches. These witches can communicate with ’spirits’ that have disappeared from this world due to their ’spiritual’ nature, and therefore, are valued by the Wizard Alliance.

In many literary texts studying wizard ranks, ’spirit’ is often described as the end of the wizard’s path.

Ancients once used a phrase to briefly summarize the characteristics of a ’spirit’:

”The nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth; the named is the mother of all things.”

The ”Wizard World Encyclopedia” lists the following well-known illustrative example under the term ’spirit’:

”...The Great North has spirits... transforming into a fish, its name is Kun. The Kun is so large that its size cannot be determined; transforming into a bird, its name is Peng. The back of Peng is so broad, that its size again is unknown. In anger, it flies, wings as if clouds hanging down from the sky. This is the spirit—once it rises from the sea to the South heaven... The spirit marks its way to South heaven by slicing through three thousand miles of water, rising for ninety thousand miles to rest after a flight of six months... ”

Similarly, the ”Mountain and Sea Spirit Book” describes: ”... It has a spirit, named Peng. With a back like Mount Tai, wings like clouds hanging from the sky, its ascent to heaven upon a whirlwind for ninety thousand miles, above the clouds, bearing the blue of the sky... ”

Of course, from ancient times to this day, the Wizards who have become ’Spirits’ are not just Big Kun, it’s just that he is the most well-known in the world of wizards. Compared to him, other Spirits are no less impressive. For example, it is said that the ancestor worshipped by demons is an ancient True Spirit.

In all the legends and records, ’Spirit’ always demonstrates the might that surpasses the mortal realm.

Take for instance, something like ”seeing as daytime, closing eyes as night, exhaling as winter, breathing as summer, neither drinking, nor eating, nor resting, to rest is to be a wind.”

Or ”weeping creates rivers, breath creates wind, voice creates thunder, eyes create lightning, happiness results in clear weather, anger results in clouds.”

There are also sayings such as ’eight thousand years as spring, eight thousand years as autumn’ ’nine changes in a day’ ’ride the thunder vehicle, tame the responding dragon, drive the Green Qiu, hold the absolute auspiciousness’, and so on. The list is endless.

Because they are too powerful, ’Spirits’ are repelled by the universe. Their true bodies wander in the depths of the universe, only able to touch this real Wizard World with extremely subtle thoughts.

And Spirit Witches are the intermediaries carrying their thoughts.

The world of wizards has always been circulating a common saying: ”The Spirit is the sacred, and the sacred bestows upon the mortal in the Spirit Witch.”

It means, powerful ’Spirits’ are truly sacred; if they want to descend to the mortal world, they need to inhabit the bodies of Spirit Witches. Simply put, the relationship between Spirit Witches and Spirits is like that of God’s Sons and Gods.

Only wizards who possess the character of ’Spirit’ can guide and accommodate the arrival of ’Spirit’.

And the method of guiding the arrival of ’Spirit’ is quite simple - Ritual.

Sandalwood, talismans, fine wine, delicacies, all of these can be offered. The bodies of the Spirit Witches are very special. Under the influence of these offerings, they will fall into a deep sleep. The thoughts of the ’Spirits’ will then touch the Spirit Witches in the depths of their dreams and descend to the mortal world under their guidance.

Therefore, unless it is for a ritual, Spirit Witches are strictly prohibited from touching the offerings in order to avoid disturbing these overpowering beings.

Of course, because sandalwood requires specific quality, talismans have different types, and delicacies vary by season, most of the time, Spirit Witches have difficulty coming in contact with suitable sandalwood, talismans, and delicacies.

Only fine wine has no restrictions.

Therefore, every Spirit Witch, under the request of the Wizard Alliance, abides by the ancient tradition and strictly abstains from alcohol.

And now, Li Meng slightly violated this code.

Zheng Qing anxiously looked around, afraid to discover a group of angry elderly wizards with canes and iron chains, rushing over to lock them back at the Wizard Covenant headquarters.

In the ”Wizard World Encyclopedia” entry on ’Spirits’, there is a warning in red font: Any unscheduled ’Spirit Invocation’ is a very serious magic accident and will be questioned by the Great Wizard Council of the Wizard Alliance.

By then, what Zheng Qing would face is not just the rules and discipline of the first university, or merely the duty of patrolling Lin Zhong Lake in the middle of weekends, but a direct admonition by all the great wizards of the Wizard Alliance. He could even face imprisonment for violating the laws of wizards!

Thinking about this, he felt a chill run down his spine.

”This doesn’t count as ’Spirit Invocation’ right?” Liu Fei Fei clung onto her boa constrictor and timidly pulled at Nicholas’ robe.

Zheng Qing glanced at them but had no mood to jest.

Nicholas gazed solemnly at the sleeping Li Meng and slowly shook his head: ”The ritual is not complete, it won’t attract their attention.”

With that, he raised his index finger and pointed upwards.

”If a regular invocation is an invitation, then what happened this time is more like sending a greeting,” Xiao Xiao also explained: ”As long as Li Meng maintains this state, she won’t have any damage when she wakes up.”

”Really?” Jiang Yu turned her head, looking anxiously at Xiao Xiao.

Xiao Xiao held her notebook and nodded very seriously.

Jiang Yu’s tense look noticeably relaxed a lot.

Zheng Qing also slowly put his heart that had been hanging in his throat back into his chest.
