High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 111: Chapter 35 Innocent Childhood Words_1

After several rounds, Zheng Qing’s cup was empty again.

”Where do I refill my drink?” Holding onto Zhang Ji Xin, who was in high spirits and looking to clink cups with others, he asked.

”At the back, look for the multi-armed people,” Zhang Ji Xin slurred, pointing to the stone bar counters on both sides of the hall, smiling broadly, ”They will understand you, don’t worry!”

The bartenders hired by the bar were members of the multi-armed alien race.

This was the first time Zheng Qing had seen a real alien.

As far as he knew, this species arrived on the Earth a long time ago. They were involved in many major events in world history. Since they also belonged to the primate family and had a relatively gentle nature, they have maintained a good and stable relationship with the Wizard Alliance.

The multi-armed race didn’t look much different from humans, except that their ears were relatively small, like round pieces of the board game Go. Correspondingly, their hearing was extremely poor, in sharp contrast to their acute sense of touch.

As indicated by their species name, the defining feature of the multi-armed race was their multitude of arms.

Every multi-armed individual was born with only one arm, but as they age and their abilities grow, their number of arms would also increase.

The famous Thousand-Hand Guanyin in the mundane world was a powerful figure from the multi-armed race.

Of course, most members of the multi-armed race didn’t achieve such notable feats. However, their racial talent of performing multiple tasks simultaneously made them popular in the wizarding world.

Especially in places like laboratories, alchemy workshops, bars, and restaurants where skilled hands were needed.

The multi-armed bartender in front of Zheng Qing had six arms.

Right now, the two arms in front of him were calmly wiping a glass, the two on the side were greeting other customers, and the two at the back were organizing bottles in the liquor cabinet.

”Can I help you with anything?” The bartender’s voice was resonant, as if amplified by a built-in megaphone.

Zheng Qing wasn’t sure if this was due to the formation on Buji Island, or whether the multi-armed people just had such unique voices.

Buji Island gathered wizards of different races from all over the world, even alien envoys and otherworldly travelers.

Initially, communication was exceptionally difficult among wizards of different races and backgrounds, speaking different languages, causing the island’s order to fall into chaos at one point.

This was something First University could not tolerate.

With the collaboration of several high-ranking wizards, First University set up a ’General Knowledge Formation’ covering the whole island. The formation incorporated every language registered in the Wizard Alliance, offering active translation features for all those communicating on the island. As a result, every language the wizards on the island heard was translated into their native tongue.

However, for alien guests like the multi-armed race and Duoni People, the significant differences in their languages caused some formatting redundancies in the translation by the formation, which led to distortion in the sound.

This minor defect was briefly described in ”Entering First University.” Zheng Qing remembered it clearly.

The voice of the multi-armed bartender in front of him might be a result of the formation’s defect mentioned in the book.

”One glass of Mist Liquor!” Zheng Qing approached the counter, sat on a bar stool, and called out to the tall multi-armed creature.

The bartender smiled warmly and took out a clean glass.

Two of his arms reached from behind, one holding a pair of tongs with ice cubes, the other holding a fruit plate with sliced lemons.

He placed a metal rack over the glass and put the ice cube on the rack, then squeezed a few drops of lemon juice onto the ice.

Next, the bartender pulled down a flexible tube from above his head and flipped a switch.

A puff of white mist burst from the tube, flowed over the ice, slipped through the metal rack, and entered the glass before spiraling into a ball.

The ice cube placed on the metal rack vaporized in an instant as the white mist passed over it, melding with the liquor in the glass.

Zheng Qing watched the scene in front of him in amazement.

”Here’s your Mist Liquor. Please enjoy,” the multi-armed bartender said, smiling while handing the glass to Zheng Qing.

”I’ll have one too!” A crisp voice rang out beside him.

Zheng Qing turned his head to see a small figure.

It was Li Meng.

She was still wearing her horn braid and a dress and small leather shoes of the same style she wore on the specialist plane. Only, the dress was now crimson and the shoes were orange.

Upon seeing Zheng Qing, she scrunched up her tiny nose, rolled her eyes, and snorted resentfully:

”Liar!”

Zheng Qing laughed wryly.

Ever since she found out about his scholarship status, she had been giving him a cold shoulder.

Had it not been for the overblown and implausible rumors around school, he figured she might have led a group of girl soldiers to him to demand an explanation.

Li Meng was holding a teddy bear in her arms and leaning forward on her tiptoes on the counter.

The bartender behind the counter could only see half of her head.

”Underage individuals are not allowed to drink alcohol,” the bartender said, offering Li Meng a glass of juice with a friendly smile, ”How about I treat you to some guava juice?”

”No!” the little girl drawled warningly, ”Are you discriminating against short people? I’m a college student... be careful, I might complain about you! I saw a complaint box at the entrance of the bar.”

Zheng Qing could hardly keep in a laugh.

Li Meng shot him a threatening glance, shifted her gaze, pointed at Zheng Qing, and addressed the bartender again, ”If you don’t believe me, ask him, we’re classmates!”

The bartender frowned and turned his gaze on Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing hadn’t expected that he’d get caught in the crossfire just by standing there with his drink.

But seeing Li Meng’s squinted eyes, he eventually chose his words carefully and affirmed, ”Indeed, she’s my classmate.”

”That’s more like it!” Li Meng gave Zheng Qing a satisfied pat on the back.

Smack, smack, smack echoed in the room.

Zheng Qing smiled awkwardly and added, ”You can give her the lowest alcohol content drink... the lower, the better.”

The bartender sighed, took out another glass, set the metal rack on top of it again, and put three ice cubes on it.

Then he hesitated for a moment before adding two more chunks of ice.

He also squeezed a sizable amount of lemon juice onto the ice with great effort.

”Why are you still carrying that bear around?”

Seeing how the bartender immediately understood and reacted, Zheng Qing quickly changed the subject, attempting to divert Li Meng’s attention.

”It’s not a bear, its name is Li Neng!” Not having to tiptoe to keep an eye on the bartender mixing her drink anymore, Li Meng lifted her stuffed animal up and rubbed it with force, claiming, ”This is my cousin’s pet.”

Li Meng’s cousin was Jiang Yu.

Zheng Qing couldn’t imagine the aloof Jiang Yu having such a cute and goofy stuffed animal as a pet.

”Which cousin?” he asked hesitantly, posing what he thought to be a pertinent question.

”I only have one cousin!” Li Meng’s face fell again, ”The one you ranked third over! Our headmaster, Jiang Yu!”

Zheng Qing coughed violently, blushing deeply, and glanced around nervously.

Luckily, no one else was around.

Children say the darndest things, children say the darndest things.

He silently reminded himself.
