High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 106: Chapter 30: How can Boys be Described as Cute?_1

Every May or June, the four colleges of the First University usher suitable young wizards from the wizarding world to participate in the annual ’Wizard’s High School Examination’.

The apprentice wizards who pass the test receive an acceptance letter from the First University - which means they can go further on their wizarding path.

However, wizards who fail the test will find it hard to further their knowledge of advanced magic in their future careers.

It is not an exaggeration to say that this is a life-changing examination for all wizards.

But every year, some young wizards missed this examination for various reasons.

Some were ill, others were traveling.

Many of them missed the exam because they couldn’t be reached by the recruitment magic of the First University.

Just like the Gypsy witches.

As one of the oldest witch lineages on the Europa Continent, the whereabouts of the Gypsy witches are very elusive. They often live outside the mainstream wizard society, using various complex incantations to cover their tracks.

If it were not for the wizard council that consistently reserves a seat for the Gypsy Witch Coven, many wizards would forget about this group’s existence.

The recruitment magic of the First University’s admissions committee is often blocked by these witches’ protection spells.

Given this, after multiple discussions, the First University has implemented a supplementary examination system to practice the principle of fairness to the largest extent.

The students who enter the First University through such supplementary examinations are called swipe students.

Elena is one such ’swipe student’ at the First University.

...

...

”Wait for me!” A witch waved at him from the other end of the street.

Zheng Qing grabbed Xin Fat Man and patiently waited on the roadside.

Elena, wearing a pair of beige patent leather peep-toe high heels, galloped to where Zheng Qing was.

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but straighten up, trying to appear taller. But his wide red gown subtly hid this effort.

Her burgundy waterfall-like hair casually cascaded over her shoulders, covering her fair neck. The black chiffon shirt with a high waist and a red slant skirt looked charming and attractive.

At this moment, she was holding a Kun Bag in her left hand and was using a set of tarot cards as a small fan to create a breeze with her right hand.

Zheng Qing wrinkled his nose. The strong and fragrant scent of violets filled his chest, making him a little dizzy.

”Do you only wear school gowns?” She turned her face sideways and looked curiously at Zheng Qing.

The orange sunset painted the street.

The slightly drunk sunlight passed through the fine fluff on her cheek, making it look even softer and gentler.

Zheng Qing opened his mouth, his mind blank.

”I said we should have worn something else!” Xin Fat Man muttered next to him.

”Wearing a school gown is also good, it looks refreshing.” Elena’s eyes beamed.

Zheng Qing smiled heh-heh, glanced at his gown.

After waking up from their naps, the two lazybones argued for thirty seconds on their respective beds and finally decided to wear the big red gown distributed by the academy to attend this party.

But after reaching Beta Town, both of them started to regret their decision.

As far as the eye could see, very few people on the street wore school uniforms.

Apart from needing to wear school gowns every Monday and Friday, and on other official occasions, the First University doesn’t have many restrictions on students’ everyday clothing.

Under long-term influences, every academy has developed different dress styles from their own culture.

The male witches of Alpha Academy prefer simple white linen clothes, and the female witches prefer to wear white skirts with tassels and pleats. Jiuyou Academy’s male witches prefer burgundy robes, and the females prefer red skirts with extravagant designs.

Atlas students often wear long gold cloaks over their clothes, while Starry Sky Academy students prefer to show off their charm and strength with blue tight vests.

However, no matter how the attire of the wizarding world changes, it is always intricately connected with the clothing of the ordinary world.

Throughout a long history, although wizards have been looking down on the ordinary people of the mortal world, they have never given up this condescending view. To quote a great wizard, ”They lack the divine talents God has bestowed, but their creativity can still inspire us.”

Although Elena was a witch, Zheng Qing felt her presence continuing to stimulate his own inspiration.

Wonderful words and phrases kept gushing from the bottom of his heart, but when they reached his lips they awkwardly turned into just one word.

”So beautiful,” he murmured.

”What?” The witch fanning herself raised an eyebrow, looking curious.

”Oh, I mean...the weather is really nice today! Ah, hahaha.” Zheng Qing hadn’t expected her to have such sharp hearing, he felt embarrassed as if his secret had been found out.

Xin Fat Man, with his head bowed, snickered under his breath.

Zheng Qing stuck out his finger and poked him a few times quite forcefully.

The three of them strolled down the street towards the destination of their gathering.

Zheng Qing glanced at the witch beside him, finally, he couldn’t hold back and broke the silence.

”I think... you look really beautiful today,” after hesitating for a good while, he plucked up the courage to compliment her.

”Thank you. Your cufflinks are also very beautiful,” Elena said with a cheerful laugh. ”I heard from others that you can recite all the Basic Talismans. That’s really impressive!”

”It’s all just some hard work,” Zheng Qing waved his hand humbly, but couldn’t stop the smile spreading across his face.

”Are those rumors true?” Elena blinked her big eyes, moved closer to Zheng Qing, and lowered her voice to ask, ”About you taming the wild demon in the Four Seasons Pavilion and saving a group of little elves. Also, are you really a descendant of Kunlun Taoism?”

Zheng Qing paused his smile, hesitating how to reply.

Because the rumors Elena mentioned were partially true, partially false.

For example, the wild boar monster really did fall asleep under his talisman paper;

And it’s also true that he saved a group of little elves - he’s even still worrying about their lives up until now.

But regardless, rumors are only rumors.

These gossips were so pesky, Zheng Qing thought with frustration.

”Of course, it’s true!” Xin Fat Man, seeing that Zheng Qing remained silent for a long time, thought he was too humble to admit it. Xin Fat Man threw an arm around Zheng Qing’s shoulder and boasted, ”Our Brother Qing doesn’t like showing off, but all the freshmen know how capable he is - those little elves are even staying in our dormitory now!”

”No, no, no.” Zheng Qing waved his hands hurriedly, denying it.

Seeing Elena’s admiring eyes, he might have been tempted to vaguely acknowledge the rumors.

However, in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to lie.

”I can’t cast Thunder Curse, and the talismans I draw aren’t as powerful.”

”I did indeed rescue a group of little elves, but I didn’t hold back the female monster. In reality, everyone worked together to fight against her.”

”And I’m not a descendant of Kunlun. True, I was indeed taught various methods, but I don’t know which school or sect I belong to. I haven’t formally joined one, and my teacher never mentioned anything to me.”

”As for the school gossips, they are only gossips.”

Zheng Qing poured out all the words he had held back for so long in one breath, and felt much lighter.

He sincerely looked at Elena and said,

”I just hope these rumors won’t affect your mood.”

Xin Fat Man stomped his foot by the side, looking frustrated.

Elena, however, had an even brighter smile,

”You are so cute!”

Zheng Qing froze, his face fell,

”How can you use ’cute’ to describe a man.”

He mumbled to himself.
