High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 114: Chapter 38 - A Statement of Pride_1

For wizards, a Spirit Witch is a special kind of being.

Compared to ordinary wizards, Spirit Witches are born with the ability to communicate with mysterious beings deep in the universe, borrowing part of their power. More powerful ones can change the course of the sun, moon, and move mountains with ease, while the less powerful can know the future, avert death, and prolong life.

The most critical point is that the majority of Spirit Witches have a high probability of becoming grand wizards.

This is enough to make most wizards extremely envious.

However, for those wizards with higher ambitions, the abilities of a Spirit Witch is all there is.

It is because the spiritual nature imposes a considerable burden on their mind, seriously hindering Spirit Witches from moving further along the wizard’s path.

To put it accurately, the arrival of the ’Spirit’ can severely impact the mental health of a wizard.

Each ’Spirit’ has its unique ’Way’, and wizards who guide spirit thoughts are forced to walk in another’s path. This kind of coercive conversion can have a significant influence on the character of a Spirit Witch.

For a lightly affected Spirit Witch, they may be a bit depressed, spiritually absent, or lose appetite; whereas for severely affected Spirit Witches, during the ’Spirit Invocation’, they may lose control, lose themselves in power. Such Spirit Witches are a significant calamity for the wizard world. Once, there was a Spirit Witch in the new world who lost control and unintentionally devastated a continent!

Perhaps negative news leaves more profound impressions; the Spirit Witches have always had a bad reputation in the wizarding world.

Ordinary wizards have always been respectful but distant towards Spirit Witches.

Perhaps this is why Li Meng has never revealed her identity.

But the young wizards at the First University do not think so.

When they found out that one of their classmates is a Spirit Witch, the freshman’s curiosity was thoroughly aroused, and everyone had endless questions.

From ”what did Li Meng eat for her three meals?” to ”how old was she when she first invoked a spirit?”, even to ”could a Spirit Witch fall in love?”

All kinds of strange questions made Jiang Yu tired of coping with them.

Zheng Qing was also very curious.

He very much wanted to know which True Spirit Li Meng was guiding.

”Whose Spirit Witch is she?” When the surrounding crowd slightly dispersed, Zheng Qing finally couldn’t help but ask.

Jiang Yu gave him a surprised look, but did not answer.

”Be polite.” Zhang Ji Xin tugged at his robe from behind.

Zheng Qing immediately realized his mistake.

It was indeed impolite to ask such secretive matters in public; to refer to a ’Spirit’ using the word ’who’ was virtually offensive.

He promptly closed his mouth, and in his mind, muttered twice ’Immortal Emperor! I’ve sinned, I’ve sinned!’

...

...

Because of the commotion here, there are hardly any customers drinking beer in the bar.

Many people stood silently around Li Meng, intending to lend a hand if necessary.

After the Elves who were waiting put the fruit baskets and wine bottles back on the bar, they sat on the highest level of the wine kitchen, shaking their wings and feelers, curiously watching the dark crowd below.

Most floating candle clusters under the ceiling have gathered above the bar area, illuminating this region brilliantly.

In the candlelight, the Multi-arm Tribe bartender looked worriedly at the young girl lying on the bar counter.

As time passed, Li Meng’s complexion, lying on the bar, became more flushed. Between her breaths, a strange fragrance slowly diffused around, causing occasional suppressed exclamations.

If there were any priests here, they would know that this fragrance signaled a ’Spirit’ taking notice of the guide.

The onlooking students murmured and marveled at the rarely seen ’Spirit Invocation’ scene.

Jiang Yu, on the other hand, finally heaved a sigh of relief.

”That is good, it did not alarm It.” The female class president put away her worries, her face returning to her usual calm and composed state.

Zheng Qing looked at Xiao Xiao.

”If Li Meng attracts Its attention, or if she guides It to descend, it would not just be a fragrance that overflows,” Xiao Xiao appeared to be significantly more relaxed: ”When a True Spirit descends, a purple aura floats around, continuously for miles on end; a strange fragrance fills the nose, spreading for hundreds of miles around. Furthermore, there will be the spectacle of a miraculous scene, seemingly as if the heaven descends upon the mortal world.”

Zheng Qing clicked his tongue in admiration, then suddenly asked, ”You talk about it so convincingly, have you ever performed spirit invocation?”

”Can’t you read?” Xiao Xiao contemptuously answered.

Zheng Qing fell silent.

An exotic fragrance filled the air and then gradually dissipated. Li Meng continued sleeping soundly.

Zheng Qing heard her soft snoring sounds.

That was a bit undignified.

If this sleeping college student knew he was watching her snore, she would definitely run after anyone who knew about it.

Zheng Qing felt he had to avoid this risk.

”Couldn’t we take her home first?” suppressing his laughter, he quietly reminded Jiang Yu.

”It’s best not to move her recklessly.” Xiao Xiao vetoed from the side.

”Before the spiritual energy stabilizes, Meng Meng cannot be subjected to any shocks.” Jiang Yu frowned, also looking helpless, ”Otherwise, it could cause significant damage to her soul.”

The deeply sleeping Li Meng seemed completely oblivious to the urgency of others. A strand of transparent drool hung from the corner of her mouth, dangerously close to her clothes.

Jiang Yu pulled out a handkerchief, wiped away the drool, and then wiped her forehead.

”Is there any way to soothe and lower her temperature?” she looked up at the others, sounding somewhat anxious.

”Would ice work?” Elena asked, pointing to the large tub of ice behind the bartender.

”Ice is too cold, it won’t work.” Jiang Yu shook her head.

”What about cool air?” Xin Fat Man unlocked the digital watch on his wrist and brought it over, ”I have a portable air conditioner in my USB drive. It can be assembled in one minute.”

”No, cold air could easily lead to illness.” Xiao Xiao rejected this proposal.

”What about the Clear Heart Symbol?” Zheng Qing pulled out a crumpled talisman from his grey cloth bag, and handed it over, ”It calms the spirit by nourishing the qi. Its effect is very mild.”

Jiang Yu paused and a smile spread across her face.

She took the crumpled talisman and activated it on Li Meng’s body.

A warm green glow spread out, covering Li Meng’s petite figure.

Her breathing quickly stabilized, and her complexion gradually returned to normal.

Jiang Yu, holding Li Meng’s wrist, finally relaxed when her condition stabilized, her tone lightened a lot:

”How long can this talisman last?”

Seeing Zheng Qing’s puzzled eyes, she explained, ”I plan to set a seal, and take Meng Meng home first. After all, she is sleeping here, with no idea when she will wake up... it’s not a good look.”

”How long will it take?”

”About half an hour.” Jiang Yu looked at Zheng Qing, hesitated a little, then added, ”Maybe twenty minutes would suffice.”

Zheng Qing met her dark eyes, feeling a sudden surge of courage. He rolled up his sleeves, his mouth curving into a smile:

”Then you start getting ready.”

”As for this talisman...”

”It will last as long as you need it to!”

The onlookers immediately perked up.

The boys all started cheering and clapping.

Jiang Yu pursed her lips, murmured a quiet thank you: ”Thank you.”

Then she took several jade pendants from her money-belt, and tied them to Li Meng’s wrists and ankles.

”I need a small patch of open space.” She looked towards the Multi-arm Tribe Attendant behind the bar, a serious look on her face.

”The one thing my shop has in abundance is space.” A hoarse voice sounded in everyone’s ears.
