High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 101: Chapter 25: School Workers Committee Building_1

First University places great emphasis on the concept of self-discipline in campus management.

The entire university is overseen by a principal and two deputy principals. The principal has a general overview and only gives some guidance on school affairs, rarely getting involved in specific matters. Technical matters are managed by the two deputy principals through the Professorial Conference and the Campus Committee.

The Professorial Conference consists of all currently employed teaching staff in the school and is mainly responsible for teaching duties.

Unlike the Professorial Conference, the Campus Committee, as one of the two major administrative bodies of First University, is mainly composed of retired professors, lecturers, and professional campus staff who have been recruited. Of the retired teaching staff, only a few retired due to age, while the vast majority faded away due to laboratory accidents or promotion failures.

The full name of the Campus Committee is ’First University Campus Affairs Management Committee’. Because most members of the committee are campus staff wearing gray robes, students habitually colloquially refer to it as the ’Campus Committee’.

As the name suggests, anything related to First University’s campus affairs falls under the jurisdiction of the Campus Committee. From the annual teaching plan to class schedule arrangements; regular campus facilities maintenance, night campus security patrols; even three of the four autonomous organizations in the school, all are directed by the Campus Committee.

Because they are responsible for a wide range of matters, the Campus Committee is further divided into three main departments: The First University Home Affairs Committee, First University Security Affairs Committee, and the First University External Affairs Committee. Even so, retired teachers are completely unqualified to handle intricate and complex campus work alone.

Therefore, in addition to recruiting students and assistants for the Campus Committee with credits, First University also implements a volunteer punishment measure across the campus. Any student who violates the school rules and disciplines, in addition to receiving school written warnings, losing credits, and other punishments, is also required to serve voluntary labor under the arrangement of the Campus Committee.

Zheng Qing recalled the description of the Campus Committee in ”Entering First University” as he walked into the oppressive three-story building.

According to the address mentioned on the punishment notice, the Campus Committee office should be right in this black building.

The front hall on the first floor was not lit and was somewhat dim.

Under the dim light, Zheng Qing could see a reception desk deep in the front hall.

There was nobody at the front desk, but next to the welcome desk was a black tree-shaped birdcage nearly two meters high. On the intersecting branches, seven or eight parakeets tilted their heads, their green bean-sized round eyes staring at the uninvited guests.

The front hall was very quiet.

The entrance passages on the left and right stretched out like gaping mouths, waiting silent for guests.

A cool draft lingered around entrance passages, perhaps due to a prolonged absence of sunlight.

A few new students quietly stood by the doorway and exchanged glances.

Until a light cough broke the silence.

The gray mouse on Lin Guo’s bag got spooked and swooshed onto the back of his bag.

”Cough, cough!”

At the top of the birdcage tree, a parakeet covered its curved mouth with a wing and coughed crisply.

The newcomers looked in surprise at the group of parakeets.

”Excuse me!” Zheng Qing tried to greet them.

The parakeets’ heads turned in unison. Their small eyes remained tightly fixed on Zheng Qing.

The small, bright, black eyes swallowed the words that were about to leave his mouth.

”Where is the Campus Committee office?” Zhang Ji Xin, glancing at the time, asked somewhat anxiously.

The parakeets again turned their attention to the red-faced boy.

Zheng Qing sighed softly.

For some reason, the gaze of these green birds made him feel somewhat nervous.

”Newcomers?” The parakeet at the top of the birdcage pulled its throat and asked with a sharp voice.

All of them nodded hastily.

The gray mouse on the front of Lin Guo’s bag curiously observed the small birds on the branches.

The parakeets seemed excited, they started to flap their wings and shake their round heads. They hit the tree with their beaks.

”Where is the Campus Committee office?” Zheng Qing repeated Zhang Ji Xin’s question after he regained his composure.

The parrots remained silent, just staring at the newcomers, slightly tilting their heads.

Zheng Qing thought they didn’t understand, so he slowed down and repeated the question.

The parrots still kept their heads tilted in silence, but one of them stretched out its claw and scratched the food bowl.

”School, work, committee, office, workshop!” Zhang Ji Xin could not help but lean under the bird cage, emphasizing each word loudly.

”I think they need some rewards.” Xiao Xiao held her notebook and looked at the others. ”Who brought bird food?”

Everyone looked at each other and shook their heads.

Zhang Ji Xin helplessly spread his hands. ”We’re not like that bird-loving girl Li Meng, so why would we have bird food on us?”

”You should eat bird food! Your whole family should eat bird food!” The largest parrot in the bird cage high above started swearing.

Zhang Ji Xin was dumbfounded.

As if a signal was given, in a blink of an eye, other parrots also joined the scolding.

”Actually, I don’t mind eating bird food now and then. That old man Sistanda once fed me some grass seeds that were pretty good.” The fat parrot next to him nodded lazily to his companions.

”These newcomers seem a little clueless!” Another parrot, with red spots, raised its head proudly, looking down at the new students in the hall.

”They don’t even keep birds!” A parrot low in the bird cage seemed very shocked.

”Aren’t they boys? I heard a few senior students from Starry Sky Academy say the other day, all boys have birds!” Another shorter parrot, in a shrill voice, was hopping around the branches.

With a helpless expression on his face, Blue Bird turned around and covered Lin Guo’s ears.

The little boy was looking at the noisy parrots, obviously not understanding.

Concealing his laughter, Zheng Qing took out mixed grains meant for his pet hamster from a gray cloth bag and reached it out to the bird cage, he asked tentatively, ”Can they eat this?”

The parrot at the very top of the branch spread his wings, glided down, picked up some of the hamster food from Zheng Qing’s palm, nodded in satisfaction, extended his claw to point at the food bowl on the birdcage, and commanded, ”Fill it up!”

With a smiling face, Zheng Qing emptied all of Fei Rui’s food from the grey bag into the food bowl.

Ever since he had given the little guy a new name, he hadn’t seen him for a long time.

The hamster didn’t come to First University with him. These things, left in the gray bag were of no use. It was not bad to give them to these interesting little birds.

”How did you know we are newcomers?” asked Zheng Qing curiously as he poured the bird food.

”No veteran would ask such a stupid question!” The parrot retracted its claws, turned its head away, a look of disdain on its face.

”What if it’s a veteran who has never been to the school labor committee before?”

”No, no, no, you still don’t understand.” The parrot proudly flapped its wings. ”’School Labor Committee Office’ is an inaccurate term. Veterans wouldn’t talk like that.”

The newcomers looked at it curiously, waiting for what was to come.

The parrot turned its head and changed the question, ”What are you up to here?”

Zheng Qing hesitated for a moment, took out the penalty notice, and showed it to the parrot.

”Are you the rookies who just started fighting and brawling as soon as you entered the school?!” The big parrot widened its eyes, flapped its wings, and screamed, ”It’s all over the school! They say a group of heroes has entered the school!”

”Heroes?!” Zheng Qing asked, feeling somewhat dizzy: ”Who said that?”

”My older cousin’s neighbour’s son who’s a Spotted Dove, my uncle’s boss’s Myna daughter, in addition to several wild pigeons who just flew in.” The parrot flapped its wings, leading the way ahead, ”Follow me.”

Zheng Qing sighed with relief.

Spotted Doves, Mynas, wild pigeons, they were all just noisy little birds talking nonsense.

He was completely preoccupied with troubles. The last thing he needed was someone fanning the flames.
