The Beautiful CEO's Personal Mad Doctor

Chapter 340: Chapter 340: I Object! This Engagement Cannot Happen

Here to watch the show?

His old army buddies and the younger folks all rolled their eyes. ’What nonsense is Cheng Yuan spouting?’

’These leaders are so busy every day. Where would they find the time to come watch a spectacle?’

Even Cheng Hongbing and Wu Xiuli had heard enough!

Cheng Hongbing chided him, displeased. ”Today is Liming and Yating’s big day. Say something auspicious. If you can’t, then say less.”

Cheng Yuan just smiled and didn’t argue with his dad.

Seeing that Cheng Yuan had been ’cowed,’ Cheng Hongbing breathed a small sigh of relief.

After the leaders took their seats, the engagement ceremony finally began.

The host walked onto the stage, cleared his throat, and captured everyone’s attention.

”The sun is shining, the heavens are smiling down on us, and on this wonderful day, I am deeply honored to host the engagement ceremony for Mr. Yan Liming and Ms. Xiao Yating. Let us witness and share in this new couple’s joy. I hope all our distinguished guests have a marvelous afternoon!”

Everyone applauded.

The host continued, ”Mr. Yan Liming and Ms. Xiao Yating were childhood sweethearts. They spent a wonderful childhood together and have walked hand-in-hand to this very day, building a deep and loving bond. Therefore, they have chosen this day to be voluntarily engaged in the presence of all our distinguished guests!”

”WOOO!”

The room erupted in cheers and applause!

”And now, let’s welcome the groom-to-be and bride-to-be to the stage!”

Yan Liming and Xiao Yating walked out, hand in hand.

It had to be said, a woman is at her most beautiful and radiant when she’s a bride.

And right now, that was Xiao Yating.

Cheng Yuan had always thought of Xiao Yating as a little sister. This was the first time he’d ever thought she was actually... pretty.

The host announced with great feeling, ”Our groom-to-be and bride-to-be are walking toward us, hand in hand. A handsome, talented man and a beautiful woman—a match made in heaven! I’m sure no one could possibly object to this union! Please, let’s all cheer and give our most sincere blessings to the happy couple!”

”WOOO!!”

The cheers and whistles grew even louder!

Amidst the jubilant atmosphere, a dissonant voice suddenly cut through the noise: ”I object to the engagement of Yan Liming and Xiao Yating!”

The voice wasn’t loud, but its Penetration Power was incredible, instantly reaching the ears of everyone present.

For a moment, the entire hall fell silent. Everyone turned, tracing the voice to its source at Table Six.

The host gave a nervous laugh, trying to smooth things over. ”Hahaha, our guest at Table Six certainly knows how to liven up the party.”

Cheng Yuan slowly got to his feet and said calmly, ”I’m not trying to liven things up. I’ll say it again: I object to the engagement of Yan Liming and Xiao Yating!”

BOOM!

The entire hall erupted in an uproar!

”Where did this punk come from? What kind of joke is this on a day like today?”

”This is no time for jokes. That young man has gone too far!”

”He doesn’t look like he’s joking. He’s here to cause trouble. I say we don’t have to be polite—just get security to throw him out!”

...

The guests at Table Six were also looking displeased.

”Xiaoyuan, you’ve gone too far! We all grew up together. It’s one thing not to give your blessing, but you can’t cause trouble!”

”Xiaoyuan, they say it’s better to tear down ten temples than to ruin a single marriage! What do you have against Liming?”

Even Cheng Hongbing and Wu Xiuli were getting antsy.

Wu Xiuli forced an apologetic smile. ”Xiaoyuan must just be trying to liven things up, please don’t mind him. Xiaoyuan, sit down now! There’s a limit to a joke!”

As she spoke, Wu Xiuli tugged forcefully at Cheng Yuan, trying to make him sit down.

But Cheng Yuan’s resolve was firm. ”Mom, I’m not kidding. This engagement really cannot happen!”

The host was at a complete loss and could only shoot a pleading look at Yan Song and his son, Yan Liming.

With a dark expression, Yan Liming strode forward and snatched the microphone from the host’s hand.

”Cheng Yuan, I know you’ve had a crush on Yating since we were kids! But you need to face reality: she chose me! From this day forward, Yating is my woman! You don’t have to bless me, you can be jealous of me, but for the sake of Yating’s happiness, please don’t cause any more trouble! Okay?”

The crowd gasped.

The hall was in an uproar once again!

”Holy shit, that’s some juicy gossip! So this punk is Captain Yan’s love rival! No wonder he’s making trouble on their big day!”

”Hahaha, look at that broke-ass loser. What’s he got to compete with Captain Yan for a woman? If I were Xiao Yating, I’d choose Captain Yan too!”

”Kid, why don’t you take a piss and look at your own reflection! What makes you think you’re worthy of Xiao Yating?”

...

Amidst the jeers, Cheng Yuan’s expression remained perfectly calm. ”Yan Liming, I’m stopping this engagement precisely for Yating’s happiness! You’re about to go to prison, Yan Liming! You can’t give Yating the happiness she deserves!”

Prison?

Yan Liming laughed.

”Cheng Yuan, are you trying to be funny? Just because you’ve done time, you think everyone else has to go to prison too? I’m Yan Liming, the one who puts people *in* prison. I’ll never see the inside of a cell! If you sit down right now, I can pretend this never happened. But if you keep causing trouble, don’t blame me for forgetting the bonds of our childhood friendship!”

The words had barely left his lips when Qiu Ming, the Director of the Disciplinary Bureau, and You Baquan, the Director of the Political and Legal Affairs Bureau, strode into the hall with several subordinates in tow.

Upon seeing these two men, the faces of the father and son, Yan Song and Yan Liming, instantly broke into near-sycophantic smiles.

These two were their direct superiors, their highest-ranking leaders! Even if Yan Liming were promoted to Deputy Director of a branch bureau, he would still be leagues below these two titans. He could only ever hope to admire them from afar.

Forgetting all about Cheng Yuan, the two of them practically jogged over, eagerly rushing to greet the officials.

”To have you two leaders grace us with your presence is an incredible honor! We are truly overwhelmed! Please, come to Table One, take the seats of honor!”

Unfortunately for them, the two officials’ expressions were frigid.

Qiu Ming produced a document and displayed it to them.

”Yan Liming, you’re coming with us. From this moment on, every word you say can be used as testimony in court. You have the right to remain silent.”

Huh?

The father and son, Yan Song and Yan Liming, froze.

Nearby, Xiao Yating and Xiao Ziqiang were also dumbstruck.

When Cheng Yuan had said Yan Liming would be taken down, they had sneered, thinking he was spouting nonsense. But now...

Cold sweat beaded on their backs.

’Thank goodness Cheng Yuan stopped the engagement!’

’Otherwise, their Xiao Family would have been implicated, possibly dragged down into a situation beyond redemption!’

Yan Liming turned his head, looking pleadingly at his father, but Yan Song was like a deflated balloon.

’His son was in trouble, and he would be next. What could he possibly do?’

All Yan Song could do was watch helplessly as Yan Liming was led away. Like a puppet with its strings cut, he collapsed to the ground.

For a moment, the entire hall was deathly silent. Everyone stared at Cheng Yuan as if they had just seen a ghost.

A moment ago, everyone had thought this kid was just a clown trying to grab attention.

But now... could it be that he was actually right?

Was Yan Liming really being taken down?

Once the dust had settled, Cheng Yuan calmly sat back down. He grinned at Huang Jianxiang. ”You know, Jianxiang, looking back, you were right! Liming’s connections really are impressive. Even the directors of the Disciplinary Bureau and the Political and Legal Affairs Bureau showed up for him!”
