Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 800: Chapter 407: Asking an Exorbitant Price (Second Update, 1800 Monthly Tickets Bonus)_2

After he returned, he found that after being away from home for several weeks, there was nothing edible in the refrigerator.

Too lazy to cook, he ordered takeout and opened his computer to continue searching for news related to that company.

Then, at nine in the evening, when it was nine in the morning in the opponent’s country, the opposing company filed a case in court accusing Kenneth Osborne’s Far Promise Special Effects Company of copyright infringement with the special effects AI software program, demanding a staggering 10 billion in compensation.

Maybe they received feedback from their lawyer previously, so they didn’t sue Kenneth Osborne’s company for patent infringement but rather for copyright infringement.

Because this case involves a domestic company, and the fantasy drama Kenneth Osborne helped produce is also a hit overseas, climbing to the top three in viewership ratings.

For a foreign fantasy drama, this is nearly an unattainable standard.

Moreover, many overseas film production companies are negotiating cooperation with Kenneth Osborne, and the deals are extremely enticing.

Therefore, the opposing party believes Kenneth Osborne’s company’s actions have infringed upon their actual interests, showing disrespect for copyright, and they demand punitive damages as a deterrent.

The court in the opposing country accepted the case promptly and began scheduling it for trial.

Moreover, as soon as the news of this case broke, it immediately topped the trending list on foreign social media.

Kenneth Osborne’s ”Far Promise Special Effects,” known as Noah Special Effect LLC in English, suddenly went viral.

Not only in the circles of special effects and artificial intelligence are people aware, but even ordinary foreigners know about it.

Foreigners started praising our country’s special effects technology because of that fantasy drama.

As soon as this case broke, foreigners exploded in outrage.

”Turns out it’s plagiarism again! Theft!”

”I wondered how their technology suddenly advanced so rapidly! Turns out they’re thieves!”

”Ha! Why am I not surprised at all? Isn’t this how they’ve risen to power?”

”They steal! They deceive! They commit all kinds of evil!”

Prejudices against our country on foreign social media are deeply ingrained.

Kenneth Osborne, despite being mentally prepared, was still stunned for a few minutes when he saw the compensation amount, almost forgetting to breathe.

It was a suffocating feeling of deep frustration.

He slammed the table hard!

This is outrageous!

He’s determined to fight this lawsuit!

He’s going to go overseas to respond to the lawsuit!

He doesn’t believe the world won’t reason things out?!

He wants to counter-sue for 20 billion in damages for the harm to his reputation!

Kenneth Osborne took a few deep breaths to suppress the anger within him.

He must not lose his temper, as getting angry won’t solve anything.

While he was pacing around the room calming himself, Francis Johnson called.

”Kenneth, how are you? Did you see their news?”

”I saw it,” Kenneth Osborne replied calmly, ”Not only will I respond to their lawsuit, but I’m also going to counter-sue them for infringing on my company’s reputation rights. I want 20 billion in compensation.”

”Alright, I support you,” Francis Johnson chuckled, ”I was worried you’d be so discouraged after this blow.”

”How could I be? You underestimate me,” Kenneth Osborne, inherently a gentle person, has a stubborn tenacity in his bones, never giving up on things he believes in.

He has the determination to smile while facing a crowd beating him down, only to deliver a fatal blow in the end.

”Hmm, it’s good you have a plan,” Francis Johnson didn’t say more, ”I’ll be cheering you on!”

Kenneth Osborne: ”...”

He understood that Francis Johnson’s words meant he wasn’t planning to intervene personally.

He hadn’t expected Francis Johnson to step in personally.

Out in the world, one has to rely on oneself to weather the storms.

Not a flower in a greenhouse waiting for others to provide shelter?

He’s not a damsel.

Besides, even if a damsel like Lawrence Winters, it’s the kind that manages by herself.

Kenneth Osborne smiled slightly, temporarily not wanting to inform Lawrence Winters of this matter.

She’s also quite busy, and he doesn’t want to add to her burden.

Thus, this weekend, Kenneth Osborne and Lawrence Winters were both busy with their own affairs, with little exchange between them.

Early Monday morning, Kenneth Osborne and Lawrence Winters each went to their respective workplaces.

As soon as Kenneth Osborne arrived at the company, he received a call from Spring Spencer.

”Mr. Osborne, did you see the news? Here’s good news for you! I consulted a top intellectual property lawyer here, and he says that overseas patent protection for code lasts only twenty years. Therefore, if they sue you for patent infringement, it doesn’t hold up! That’s why they didn’t sue you for patent infringement!” Spring Spencer’s voice was filled with joy, evidently truly happy for Kenneth Osborne.

Kenneth Osborne smiled, not particularly enthusiastic, saying, ”Hmm, I did some research over the weekend and consulted lawyers, and they said the same thing.”

”Yes, it seems everyone agrees,” Spring Spencer laughed, ”However, there’s something you shouldn’t overlook. The lawyers here said that while the opposing party’s patent infringement claim doesn’t hold, they can sue you for copyright infringement. Since software has copyright licenses, their software isn’t a free-to-use open-source program. So their copyright infringement claim does hold. Your chances of winning are slim.”

It’s the same as what Francis Johnson and Lydia Graham said.

Kenneth Osborne felt emotionally unperturbed, even somewhat weary.

He already knew these points; the question now is what can he do to resolve this issue?

He listened casually to Spring Spencer on the phone as he massaged his temples.

”Additionally, the opposing party’s demand for 10 billion in punitive damages is really just a sky-high negotiation tactic, expecting you to settle for less. If you authorize me, I can help you find the best lawyers, negotiate with them, and ultimately settle out of court. This is standard procedure; they know your company ’Far Promise Special Effects’ doesn’t have that amount of money. If we are pushed to the brink, you could announce ’Far Promise Special Effects’ bankruptcy, and you won’t have to pay a cent.”

”So they’ll definitely accept an out-of-court settlement. At that point, the amount of compensation will be negotiated by us,” Spring Spencer imparted her experience to Kenneth Osborne.

Kenneth Osborne listened for a while, frowned, and said, ”But I don’t want an out-of-court settlement.”
