Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 792: Chapter 404: The Expert Steps In (Second Update)

He said, and with his plump little short legs, he leapt onto the back of the little corgi, riding it as he shouted, ”Giddy up! Let’s go find daddy to play!”

Lydia Graham was worried that her husband Christopher Mason would toss Asui back to her, so she quickly picked up her phone and purse, saying to Francis Johnson, ”Shall I come to your office?”

”Since you’re free, let’s go to Kenneth Osborne’s office together.” Francis Johnson said as he sent the address of Kenneth Osborne’s office to Lydia Graham.

Lydia Graham peeked in and saw Christopher Mason just as he was lifting Asui off the back of the little corgi, and she quickly shouted, ”Little Francis has something for me, I’ll be out for a bit!”

Then she slipped away happily.

Christopher Mason had indeed planned to toss Asui back to his mother, but unexpectedly Lydia Graham managed to run away first.

His lips curved slightly as he looked at Asui and said earnestly, ”Asui, mommy’s working overtime, so it’s just the two of us at home today. How about going to Grandma’s place to eat some of what Grandpa Ian makes?”

He was referring to his mother, Mrs. Sterling’s home.

Asui’s eyes lit up, clapping with excitement, ”Sure, sure! Asui wants to eat rice dumplings! Both sweet and savory!”

”Okay, I’ll send Grandma a message first, then we’ll head over together.”

Christopher Mason said as he indeed sent a message to Clara Sterling.

Clara Sterling was resting at home over the weekend, having just picked flowers with Patrick and planning to arrange a couple of bouquets.

Seeing Christopher Mason’s message, Clara Sterling was overjoyed and replied immediately, ”No problem! Quickly bring my little grandson over!”

As she arranged flowers, she smiled and said, ”Patrick, Asui and Christopher are coming over soon, and Asui said he wants to eat rice dumplings, so shall we make a couple for him?”

Patrick grunted, seemingly unintentionally adding, ”What about Lydia? Is she coming? And what about Ian...”

”Christopher didn’t say, he only mentioned himself and Asui.”

Patrick tugged at the corners of his lips, thinking that Lydia Graham must not be home, so Christopher Mason decided to conveniently drop Asui off with them...

But truly, Asui is so adorable, even if he hasn’t seen him for a few days, he misses him quite a lot.

Clara Sterling didn’t need to be mentioned; any chance she gets, she wants to video chat with little Asui.

Asui is only three years old, but his charming words are beyond even what two of Lydia Graham could muster.

When he sees Clara Sterling, he calls her ”The smartest and most beautiful lady grandma in the world!”

And as for Patrick, he calls him ”My most admired Grandpa Ian!”

The name Grandpa Ian was initiated by Asui himself.

Initially, Christopher Mason and Lydia Graham had wanted him to call him ”grandfather” directly.

But the issue is, Christopher Mason’s biological mother is Clara Sterling, while his biological father is Andrew Mason.

After Clara Sterling’s divorce from Andrew Mason, she remarried Patrick.

Therefore, Patrick is technically Christopher Mason’s stepfather, and Patrick’s original name was Dominic Mason, making him Andrew Mason’s brother, hence Patrick is also biologically Christopher Mason’s uncle.

In such a complex chain of relationships, Asui’s proper grandfather should be Andrew Mason, and Patrick would be his step-grandfather.

Asui, impatient with calling him ”step-grandfather,” decided to label him ”Grandpa Ian,” though realizing that ”Grandpa Ian” felt too formal and lacked warmth, directly shortened it to ”Ian.”

Patrick himself has an imposing presence, and the name ”Ian” miraculously fits the aura he exudes to others.

Thus, aside from Asui, many business friends started referring to him as ’Ian.’

After being called that enough times, Patrick grew used to it.

And for little Asui, who was the first to call him ”Ian,” he doted on him deeply.

He’s actually Asui’s great-uncle, sharing a blood relation.

Patrick smiled gently as he washed his hands and went to the kitchen to ready the glutinous rice and leaves for the dumplings.

...

Lydia Graham drove directly to the front of Kenneth Osborne’s office building, met up with Francis Johnson, and went together to Kenneth Osborne’s company office.

As Kenneth Osborne came out to open the door, he didn’t expect Francis Johnson to have brought the chief legal advisor of the national assembly, Lydia Graham, and felt a bit nervous.

Francis Johnson smiled warmly, saying, ”Chief Lydia happened to be free, so I invited her along.”

Lydia Graham shook hands with Kenneth Osborne, smiling as she praised, ”Mr. Osborne, your AI software for special effects is really impressive. I watched it, and it’s incredibly original, with efficiency that’s amazingly high!”

Kenneth Osborne glanced at Francis Johnson, smiling as he asked, ”Did Chief Lydia see my submissions for patent and copyright registration?”

”Yes, the assembly is considering amending the patent law and copyright law, and your application is an important basis for our proposed amendments.” Lydia Graham followed Francis Johnson into Kenneth Osborne’s office.

Kenneth Osborne sat behind his desk, as Francis Johnson and Lydia Graham took the seats opposite.

After everyone sat down, Kenneth Osborne asked Francis Johnson, ”Did Mr. Johnson brief Chief Lydia on my situation?”

Francis Johnson said, ”I brought Chief Lydia here, you can tell her directly, no need for me to paraphrase incoherently.”

Kenneth Osborne nodded, ”Then I’ll explain again, and if there’s anything wrong, please, Mr. Johnson, feel free to complement.”

When he started speaking, there was a hint of restraint, but this was his field of expertise, and soon he spoke more fluently and comfortably.

He introduced what Spring Spencer had told him, then projected the opposing party’s prepared lawsuit materials on the large screen hung on the opposite wall.

Lydia Graham glanced thoughtfully at the documents, saying, ”Anyone who’s worked as a programmer knows for computer code, some is open source, accessible to everyone, requiring no license or fees.”

”But some computer code is not; it’s copyrighted, and some even have registered patents.”

”Using such code requires a license from the author, also known as a copyright license. Without it, you’ll be sued, then pay a usage fee.”

”Certain source codes carry the author’s name, and using that code requires the author’s license, and fees might also be needed.”

”So you pay the copyright owner every time you use the code.”

Kenneth Osborne hurriedly said, ”But I didn’t copy their code! Nor did I use their code! I wrote all my own! I can show you my protocol!”

Lydia Graham gestured for him to calm down, saying coolly, ”I understand, don’t worry.”

”I’m talking about their situation now; regardless of yours, notice that their patents were registered over thirty years ago.”

”And abroad, the patent protection for computer code is only twenty years.”

”Therefore, they accusing you of stealing their trade secrets and infringing on their software patents doesn’t hold up. —Because their patent is already expired.”

”They’re doing this to blackmail you.”
