Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 326: Chapter 179: Even a Mighty Dragon Cannot Suppress a Local Snake (Part 2)

They searched several times and only took out their phones to call someone after confirming there was no one else here.

”Miss, we’ve checked carefully, Joyce’s grandmother isn’t here.”

The person on the other end of the call was Spring Spencer. She frowned and said, ”Are you sure? Is the old lady hiding? You must protect her, don’t let anyone harm her.”

”We ran into that group when we came, they’ve already had their arms broken and tendons cut and were thrown out. Don’t worry about it.” The short man earlier now spoke in a very respectful Northern accent.

Spring Spencer nodded, ”Okay, thank you. For now, just like this, keep an eye on Joyce’s grandmother’s house. If she returns, make sure she’s safe.”

Only after repeated assurances did Spring Spencer hang up the phone.

She rubbed her temples and said to her mother Ava Harlow sitting in front of her, ”Mom, thank you for helping.”

”Why so polite to your own mother?” Ava Harlow smiled, ”It’s just a word. Your grandfather’s reputation from back then still works wonders. Even those remote inland places recognize his name.”

”But it’s thanks to you that they listened,” Spring Spencer said with a bitter smile, ”This time, luckily, we got there in time, and Joyce’s grandmother should already be under protection. Otherwise, my elder brother and second sister would have caused a big mistake this time.”

Ava Harlow also snorted slightly, ”Such vicious acts, even those on the streets wouldn’t do. I didn’t expect Justus Spencer and Summer Spencer could go to such extremes.”

”You must tell Dad about this, don’t let them make things too messy. I can help them once, but not a second time,” Spring Spencer said lightly, ”Besides, after helping the company with such a big favor, I don’t want to do good without recognition.”

”Don’t worry about that. Justus Spencer is so heartless; even if you don’t, I have to talk to your dad,” Ava Harlow said with a smile, standing up gracefully and going upstairs.

At the same time, in a small city, a team of police leaped out of the darkness, quickly arresting the men with broken arms and cut tendons, and also apprehending a few local ”thugs” who appeared afterward.

The arrested ”thugs” were dumbfounded and hurriedly shouted, ”Officer! We’re the good guys! We’re the good guys! They came to kill, and I came to save!”

A rather young cop couldn’t hold back and burst out laughing.

An older cop gave him a stern look, ”Who knows who’s good or bad when you’re trespassing on others’ property! Let’s take them back first and then talk!”

He waved his hand, ready to take these people to the police car, when the men with broken arms and cut tendons suddenly fell one by one to the ground.

Not only did it startle the police, but even the streetwise ”thug” paled, his teeth chattering as he stammered, ”It’s not me! I didn’t do it! Don’t say that!”

With the situation as it was, they had no choice but to call the police station for backup once more.

Ten minutes later, several more police cars arrived, bringing with them forensic experts and other professionals.

After examining those who had collapsed, the forensic pathologist concluded, ”The external injuries are just fractures; what killed them was the poison in their mouths. They committed suicide by poison.”

The thugs exchanged bewildered glances, thinking, damn, these weren’t ordinary intruders; they were playing for keeps...

Of course, they didn’t know that these people had undergone special training; if they failed, they’d immediately take their own lives, leaving no survivors.

...

Francis Johnson received a call in his office in Capital City, raising an eyebrow, ”All dead? Not one left?”

”Yes, it seems the other side was well-prepared, even taking failure into account.”

”Heh, alright, being dead is good too. It would be troublesome to deal with them alive,” Francis Johnson said indifferently, ”Keep an eye on them over there, see if there’s anyone else...”

”Yes. There’s a bunch of local thugs, self-proclaimed bosses, who tried to protect Joyce’s grandmother. They were the ones who broke the arms and cut the tendons.”

Francis Johnson was a bit surprised, ”Local thugs? Did you find out who told them to do this?”

The person on the other end laughed, ”You’ll never guess who they listened to.”

”Who?” Francis Johnson was curious, ”Is there someone you don’t know about?”

”There was a famous family in the streets early on, with the surname Lan. Does that sound familiar?”

Francis Johnson shook his head, ”I’m not familiar with domestic matters.”

As he spoke, he opened his computer to search for this Lan family and finally came across a significant figure named Elias Harlow, known as Uncle Lan Six.

”...Didn’t he leave the country long ago?” Francis Johnson recalled then, smiling as he said, ”We have nothing to do with each other, not exactly close.”

”Yes, but his reputation still remains,” laughed the person on the other end, ”as long as someone says Uncle Lan Six needs help, there are still people willing to do him a favor.”

Francis Johnson chuckled softly, neither affirming nor denying, as he opened his computer to make notes, he said, ”Alright, keep an eye on them over there, see if anyone else is looking for Joyce’s grandmother.”

”Yes.” The person on the other end accepted the order and hung up.

Joyce’s grandmother, of course, had been brought to Capital City by Francis Johnson in the first instance, where they’d arranged a safe place for her.

Although the old lady hadn’t asked much, she seemed to have realized that something had happened.

At night, Francis Johnson called over, and the person taking care of her said that the old lady had been crying, holding a photo of Joyce.

Francis Johnson closed his eyes briefly and said, ”Alright, keep taking care of her for me, don’t say anything.”

Meanwhile, at Lawrence Winters’ home, she was frantically searching for someone, ”Crazy Girl! Crazy Girl! Come out! Where did you run off to?!”

The old Daoist and Nick Zeller were also looking around everywhere on the floor, but they couldn’t find Crazy Girl’s shadow.

”I just went out to the nearby store to buy something, and when I came back, she was gone.” Lawrence Winters regretted and kept hitting her forehead, ”I should have taken her with me! I should never leave her side!”
