Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 314: Chapter 175: Let’s Be Together

Madam’s sister was somewhat frightened by Francis Johnson’s demeanor, not daring to cry, she half-raised her head, staring at him blankly, occasionally choking up, seemingly at a loss.

Francis Johnson sat down beside her, stretched out his long legs, and did not speak again.

Madam’s sister had no choice but to curl up, leaning on the bench, her thin figure desolate and fearful.

Lawrence Winters was crying uncontrollably beside her.

Kenneth Osborne couldn’t bear to watch anymore and pulled Lawrence Winters away, and the two of them stood by the window not far away.

Outside the window were blue skies and white clouds, crisp autumn air, maple leaves in full swing, shades of red spreading all over the city.

But inside the window, there was a cloud of sorrow, the atmosphere oppressively heavy.

At this moment, a team of nurses suddenly came out of the elevator pushing a surgical cart, rushing quickly towards Joyce Shaw’s room.

”What’s happened? What are you going to do?!” Madam’s sister stood up, panicked and asked.

”The patient has lost too much blood and needs a transfusion, but there’s not enough blood,” a nurse quickly said as the door to the operating room opened and the team of nurses swiftly pushed the surgical cart inside.

The heart that Madam’s sister had just eased sank again. She couldn’t help but burst into heart-wrenching screams, then covered her mouth tightly with her hand, huddled in the corner by the operating room door like someone abandoned by the world.

Watching this, Lawrence Winters felt as if his own heart was in turmoil, gripping Kenneth Osborne’s hand even tighter.

Kenneth Osborne felt a heavy heart as well, sighed and said, ”I wanted you to comfort Madam’s sister, but instead, you are like her...”

Lawrence Winters glanced at the operating room, then at Kenneth Osborne, and murmured, ”Have you ever thought that it could have been you in there... I’m scared... I’m really terrified...”

Kenneth Osborne’s heart stirred, recalling that Joyce Shaw’s position was the one he had refused.

At that time, due to the public relations humiliation that the Spencer Group inflicted on Lawrence Winters, he angrily turned down their offer, but unexpectedly, Joyce Shaw filled that position.

Lawrence Winters, with tears in her eyes, said hoarsely, ”I once looked at Madam’s sister’s face and knew there would be twists and turns between her and Joyce Shaw. But I also saw Joyce Shaw’s face, recognized that he would only be with Madam’s sister in this lifetime, that his marital fate rested with her, always believing they were the kind to grow old together in love...”

She looked up at Kenneth Osborne and said, ”Brother Kenneth, if Joyce Shaw comes through this safely, I... I’ll believe in love, and we’ll be together.”

Kenneth Osborne paused slightly and wanted to ask her about how she saw their marital fate, but seeing Lawrence Winters’ tear-stained eyes, his heart softened, and he nodded, saying, ”...Okay.”

The next moment, the red light of the operating room went off, the door opened, and a group of doctors and nurses filed out.

Madam’s sister quickly stood up, looking at these people helplessly, asking, ”Joyce Shaw? How is Joyce Shaw? He is my fiancé, we’re engaged...”

Ian Lothrop, masked, walked in front without speaking, just shook his head towards Francis Johnson who stood behind Madam’s sister, and then turned and left.

Leo Carter stayed behind, regretfully saying, ”Are you the fiancée of the injured? I’m sorry, we’ve tried our best, but his injuries were too severe, the biggest issue being that he had lost too much blood and had already stopped breathing by the time he arrived.”

”To save him, we even used the ECMO to sustain life, a type of external life support system often used for severe car crash victims, hoping for a miracle.”

”Unfortunately...”

No miracle occurred.

Upon hearing this, Madam’s sister felt as if struck by a bolt from the blue, collapsed to her knees, crying bitterly, calling out again and again, ”Joyce Shaw... Joyce Shaw... Joyce Shaw...”

She said nothing else, but these heart-wrenching cries made it clear that the person whose name she called was never coming back.

Lawrence Winters felt cold all over, her hands and feet numb.

She never imagined that even her vow wouldn’t work, leaving her stunned, helplessly looking up at Kenneth Osborne, murmuring, ”...Then, are we still going to be together?”

Kenneth Osborne closed his eyes briefly, his emotions intense, pulled her into his arms tightly, his clear voice slightly hoarse: ”...Silly girl! Of course, we will!”

”Do you know how long I’ve been thinking about this?”

Kenneth Osborne felt a wave of immense joy but also unspeakable sorrow as he thought of his friend who had just departed from this world.

He knew that it was the extreme situation of Joyce Shaw and Madam’s sister that had prompted Lawrence Winters to make such a decision, fearing they might end up the same way.

His agreement with her now almost felt like taking advantage of her vulnerability.
