Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 303: Chapter 169: Feeling Comforted (Part 2)

”Really?” Joyce Shaw looked skeptical, silently finished her mango juice, and went to the living room to find another drink.

At this moment, Francis Johnson finally arrived, coming alone and brought a bottle of Maotai.

Kenneth Osborne hurried over with a smile and said, ”It’s an honor to have you here, Mr. Johnson. Why bring Maotai? Everyone’s driving today, so no hard liquor will be provided.”

Francis Johnson laughed and said, ”It’s for Lawrence’s family, her mom, uncle, and mentor. Where are they?”

Kenneth pointed to a small lounge area, ”Over there, do you want to go?”

”I’ll go later,” Francis put the bottle of Maotai on the table, took a beer for himself, and walked with Kenneth to the balcony to talk.

Soon, a few people gathered to examine the bottle of Maotai.

One said, ”This Maotai isn’t your usual Maotai. Look at those two characters on the seal; anything with those is not for sale publicly.”

”Who is he? How could he get his hands on such Maotai?”

”Who cares who he is! If you can be friends with someone who owns a house like this, you’re surely well-off enough to get it. Everyone has a friend who can get it, right?”

Joyce Shaw had just grabbed a glass of grape juice, and upon hearing this, glanced at the Maotai curiously, asking, ”Is this really something ordinary people can’t buy? Even a lot of money can’t buy it?”

”You see, that’s something you don’t know, huh? Let me put it this way, Maotai with those two characters is specially supplied to certain people. No matter how much money you have, it’s not purchasable without the rank.”

Joyce’s mind was stirred, ”Rank? How high a rank?”

”Haha, that we don’t know. Maybe you could ask Mr. Osborne? The person who brought the Maotai is talking with Mr. Osborne.”

Joyce looked back and saw a handsome, tall man standing next to Kenneth Osborne, his buzz-cut not diminishing his good looks.

This person was indeed SSA Private Equity’s Mr. Johnson.

That’s the capable person Kenneth Osborne was just talking about.

Looking at his aura, Joyce hesitated a bit and sipped her grape juice, not approaching him.

Only when Francis Johnson walked to the other side of the lounge did Joyce move over to Kenneth’s side and curiously ask, ”That’s SSA Private Equity’s Mr. Johnson, right?”

”Yes.” Kenneth nodded, ”He’s a good person and very capable. The person I just told you about is him.”

Joyce pursed her lips, saying, ”Kenneth, do you think speaking to him would help?”

”If you don’t have concrete evidence and can’t call the police, just talk to him. At least he can help report the matter.” Kenneth said calmly, glancing at him.

”But I don’t want to blow things up. What if it’s just a coincidence? It’s not good for the company to suffer losses.” Joyce said with frustration, ”I really don’t understand these things, I just like doing technical work.”

”Why don’t you wait a little longer then?” Kenneth thought for a while, ”I can pass on your concerns to Mr. Johnson. If he thinks there’s something wrong and is willing to help, he will contact you. If he doesn’t see an issue or can’t help, then that’s how it will be. You should hurry and resign, stop working there.”

Joyce hesitated a bit, ”Let me think more. After I verify my suspicions, I’ll get back to you. Don’t mention this to Mr. Johnson, I don’t want too many people knowing.”

Kenneth understood why Joyce didn’t want to talk to Francis Johnson.

After all, Kenneth had some reservations about Francis Johnson before.

There’s no trust without reason; trust is built one incident at a time between people.

”Alright, I’ll ask if he can give you his business card.” Kenneth patted his shoulder, ”If you need anything, contact him yourself.”

”Thank you, Kenneth.” Joyce took a deep breath, starting to feel less burdened.

Meanwhile, in another part of the living room, Wild Sister had already drunk several cans of beer.

A bit tipsy, she complained to Lawrence Winters, ”Lawrence, do you think men work so hard they don’t eat or drink? Joyce’s been way too busy lately...”

Three Billion Sister disliked hearing complaints, always thinking women sounded like embittered wives when complaining, making for a terribly unattractive posture.

Once Wild Sister started, she stood up and went to sing with Blake Leaf.

Lawrence, however, loved listening to gossip the most and didn’t mind lending Wild Sister an ear due to their good friendship.

”Wild Sister, you’ve just been too lonely with an empty room lately, right?” Lawrence teased with a smile and started singing, ”I already see the red apricot branch peeping over the wall... peeping over...”

”You’re the one peeping over!” Wild Sister laughed and pushed her, ”I’m talking serious business with you, can’t you be serious?”

”I’m listening!” Lawrence pointed at her ear, ”Aren’t you complaining that Joyce is too focused on work and not spending time with you?”

”Yeah, it feels like having no fiancé at all, going to work alone, returning alone. Eating instant noodles at night, eating instant noodles on weekends.” Wild Sister sighed, ”Look, I’ve lost weight.”

Lawrence scoffed, ”You really don’t know how lucky you are; losing weight without exercise—be satisfied!”

She pursed her lips, looking at herself, not only needing to exercise often but also resisting indulging in food, lest the weight rebound...

A sea of bitter tears known only by those who struggle with weight.

Wild Sister was amused by her, saying, ”Your attention points are always so strange, but I must admit, I feel comforted...”

Wild Sister giggled, leaning on Lawrence’s shoulder, saying, ”Actually, I’m not asking him to be with me; it’s just week after week of not coming home, and I worry about his health.”

Lawrence comforted her, ”Think about it this way: he’s so busy that he doesn’t have time for fooling around. If he doesn’t have a girlfriend, you’re his girlfriend here for life. Unlike you, no matter where you go, you have boyfriends. Right? Can you say that no one at your work chases you?”

Lawrence winked at her.

Wild Sister blushed, covering her face, ”But I don’t pay attention to them.”

”That’s right.” Lawrence hugged her shoulder, smiling, ”You know I’m very pessimistic about relationships, so don’t mess around and let me lose faith in love again. As for Joyce, rest assured, he’s not one to have wandering eyes, no matter who else cheats, he won’t.”

Just as she finished, Wild Sister’s phone rang from her pocket.

She took out two phones and looked at them, saying, ”It’s Joyce’s phone.”

Looking around, she didn’t see Joyce anywhere.

She didn’t recognize the number, and worried someone might need help, she swiped to answer, ”Hello, who is this?”

The person seemed puzzled, letting out a ”Yea,” and sweetly saying, ”Who are you? How is Joyce’s phone with you? Let Joyce answer the call.”

The tone was intimate yet aggrieved, subtly crying, clearly a young woman.

Wild Sister was dumbfounded, nearly unable to speak.

The caller continued, ”Joyce... Joyce... I miss you... Why didn’t you work overtime this weekend? I want to work overtime with you... Every day it’s me who accompanies you... Whimpering... Who are you with today? Whimpering...”

Lawrence: Damn it! That’s a slap to the face!

She angrily grabbed the phone from Wild Sister and sneered, ”Why are you crying? Who are you putting on a show for that? Who am I? I’m your mother! Today I’ll teach you some manners! Yap yap yap, how many mouths do you have? Your faucet at home can’t be turned off, flooding everywhere! Joyce’s phone being with someone else is none of your business! Stop with the divisive tactics, I tell you! You utter another word and I’ll curse you to have period pain so severe you can’t manage daily life!”
