Warhammer Divine Throne

Chapter 1245: Chapter 536: Carlos, the Fate Weaver

The carriage driver ordered the horses to stop immediately, the packhorse sliding sideways, braking the carriage at great speed.

The ear-piercing sound of braking and the wooden carriage wheels carved two long marks in the swamp near Sharp-Top Palace, splashing mud all around.

Laine instinctively felt something was amiss, his gaze sharpened, his strong arms suddenly grabbed Juan and pulled him behind himself.

”Huh?” Juan was puzzled, and instinctively looked toward the carriage.

At this moment, the curtain of the carriage was lifted, revealing five rows of black muskets, all pointing at Laine who was about to come out to inspect the goods.

Before Juan could react, the five rows of muskets on the carriage almost simultaneously fired at Laine, the whistling barrage instantly engulfed Laine’s silhouette!

”Boom! Boom! Boom boom boom boom!”

”Boom boom boom boom!!!”

Over a hundred muskets fired continuously, with nothing but the sound of gunfire outside the walls of Sharp-Top Palace.

”Lord Laine... what are you doing? Lord Laine?!” Juan only felt a fear from the depths of his soul rising up, he looked at Laine who stood in front of him with wide eyes: ”How could you, actually for someone like me?!”

Juan’s voice was drowned in the sound of musket volleys, the young Flame Sun Knight heard only the dense gunfire and Laine’s angry roars.

”Ugh! Uh! Ah ah ah ah!!” Laine’s voice was painful and distorted, until all the gunfire stopped, and a hundred muskets had already fired all their bullets.

A faint blue light enveloped the area in front of Laine, his hand stretched out in the air, his temples tense, and the light of Spiritual Power in his eyes rotated like nebulae and whirlpools, even bursting out.

A whole hundred musket bullets were suspended in the air, Laine’s Spiritual Power had enveloped all the bullets, within the faint blue light, the bullets just sat still.

Laine’s performance far exceeded the driver’s expectations, he stared at this scene dumbfounded, having no idea what to do.

”Ugh ah ah ah!!!” Laine roared loudly, forcefully pushing his hand forward: ”Taste this!”

The bullets, under the effect of Spiritual Power, retreated backward! This bullet storm, under Laine’s force, flew back intact toward the carriage!

”Bang! Bang bang bang~” The whole carriage was enveloped in the bullet storm, its exterior and structure were riddled with holes, the driver and two Free People hidden inside were shot multiple times and died on the spot, the packhorse panicked and ran wildly into the depths of the woods.

”What the!” Laine stood where he was, exhaled lightly, and mockingly laughed at himself: ”My shooting is quite accurate, huh!”

”La... Lord Laine?!” Juan stood dazedly behind Laine.

”Why are you making that sound, Juan?” Laine panted, straightening his body: ”I’m the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lady, Laine Macado, just a few bullets, nothing serious!”

”But...”

”Protecting my subordinates is my responsibility!” Laine’s face was fierce, he took a few deep breaths and stood up, with his Spiritual Power, intercepting a hundred bullets unprepared was possible, but consumed him somewhat, he felt his temples must be bulging with veins: ”Damn it, what’s the matter? Why did the transport team suddenly fire at me?!”

At this moment, the upheaval near the castle had already drawn almost everyone’s attention, everyone immediately surrounded the fallen carriage, a dozen knights and a large group of peasant infantry cautiously approached under Laine’s orders to inspect the abnormality of the carriage.

The people in the carriage had long been riddled by Laine’s counterattack, the carriage and ground were stained with bright red blood, the knights regarded the dead with expressions, sensing something was wrong, the faces of these three showed neither extreme fear nor unwillingness, instead were expressionless, they seemed unrelated to the assassination of Laine without regret nor fear of death.

”Strip their clothes!” Laine narrowed his eyes and immediately ordered: ”Take it all off.”

The soldiers did as told.

When these three Free People’s clothes were stripped, the knights were shocked and widened their eyes.

Three people had an octagonal emblem branded either on the head, chest, or back.

”Chaos?” Laine’s face gradually changed, he lowered his head in thought.

The recapture of Musillon was a war between humans and the undead, at this moment Chaos appearing here signifies what? Does Chaos want to gain benefits from this war, or has Laine’s existence already caught Chaos’s attention?

”Lord Laine, what is this?” Jerald came to Laine’s side: ”Not hurt, right? This seems like an assassination, someone intercepted the transport team, controlled these three peasants and had them load a hundred muskets with bullets, this looks like a deliberate murder, seems... like Chaos’s corruption?”

”It should be, but how could Chaos appear here?” Laine nodded, his brows furrowed.

Chaos’s appearance will add countless variables to the recapture of Musillon, he knows the power of Chaos well, if Chaos truly intends to participate in this war, then Laine’s preparations are not enough.

Is this assassination Chaos’s prank or a test?
