Chapter 1230: Chapter 531: Battle of the Richard Plains

After waiting for a few days, the Empire reinforcements arrived.

The Fireworks Academy Mercenary Corps brought over twenty Empire-made heavy cannons, four Hellstorm Rocket Cannons, and one Hellstorm Rapid-Fire Cannon.

Three musket battalions, three infantry battalions, and a squad of Dwarf Butchers formed the main force of this Fireworks Academy Mercenary Corps. In addition, there were a squad of pistol cavalry and a few Imperial Knights.

The commander of this army was Imperial General Dietrich, a veteran of over fifty years, serving in Nuer. Since Emmanuelle returned to Nuer, Dietrich has sworn allegiance to Emmanuelle and her son Frederick.

The deputy general was Boris von Rukov, a stout man in his thirties who graduated from the Nuer Gunpowder Academy. He wore extremely flamboyant clothes, unbelievably flashy, with various luxurious decorations on his plate armor that could practically blind others. Unlike the long-haired Brittania people, this strong man kept a simple buzz cut, chin raised high, displaying a short goatee, with an exceptionally arrogant attitude.

The soldiers from Nuer were very well-equipped, with even the worst-equipped long spear soldiers having a full set of exquisite standard equipment. Besides the long spear in their hands, each soldier was equipped with a fine longsword produced by the Nuer Armory. The entire army wore black clothing and black armor.

To hire this Imperial Army, the Brittania people paid a considerable price. Besides a large amount of gold coins, they also placed numerous orders with the Nuer Armory. It was said that this was the idea of the new Duchess of Nuer, Emmanuelle, who believed that large production orders were more effective than mere gold and silver. Not only did it bring profit, but it also allowed the armory to operate at full capacity, solving a series of social problems.

The arrogant attitude of the Empire reinforcements caused great dissatisfaction among the Brittania people. The knights all showed indignant expressions towards them. In the eyes of the Imperial people, it was quite amusing that, aside from the knights, the Brittania people actually dragged a bunch of half-naked country bumpkins and mud-legged peasants to fight alongside them.

However, those who had undertaken the Holy Grail Expedition such as Lorne, Hagen, and Kaled understood this situation.

This had to be explained from the history of Nuer.

Nuer City is home to the Imperial Artillery School, where most of the Empire’s cannons, mortars, and muskets are manufactured. Nuer is also home to many of the Empire’s ancient prestigious schools, serving as the Empire’s academic center, industrial center, and a southern stronghold.

In terms of technological and academic levels, not even the Imperial Capital Brunswick can be compared with Nuer. Nuer is also the hometown of Savior Ludwig, who is considered the greatest Emperor of the Empire since Charlemagne. This city basks in glory because of him. Nuer is also a hub of transportation and trade, with the Dwarves’ fortress in the mountains continuously supplying various goods. The wealthy people from the Southern Realm and even Tiriel people flood in for trading.

So Nuer is prosperous, and its people are highly cultured. The army of Nuer has long been professionalized and often works as mercenaries for other Empire provinces, with the entire Nuer civilian class having the highest level of education and literacy in the Empire.

”Brunswick is our capital, Nuer is the center of the Empire, White Wolf City... alright, it counts as a great city, and other places? They’re just the countryside.”

— Remarks by Wagner, an unnamed Rick Guard and Master of Engineering from Nuer, after drinking.

In short, Brunswick and Nuer stand at the top of the disdain hierarchy among the Empire people. For this reason, Emperor Carl Franz won’t tolerate anyone he doesn’t trust taking control of Nuer. He is pleased that Emmanuelle, who has good relations with him and his family, has returned to Nuer, as Carl Franz needs to maintain control over Nuer.

However, for this reason, the Mercenary Corps’ professional ethics are also very commendable. Imperial General Dietrich cast a disdainful glance around the Brittania military camp before finally saying: ”Your Grace, Lorne-Rio Cornwall?”

”Hello, our Empire brothers, fellow humans from across the mountains.” Lorne led the group to greet them, offering his hand to Dietrich and Boris von Rukov: ”Very welcome!”

”We come with the friendship of the Duchess of Nuer, the much-beloved Emmanuelle.” Imperial General Dietrich said to Lorne and the others: ”We have sold our blades and firepower to you; you just need to tell us how to deal with our enemies.”

”Very well!”

As March approached, the weather in Musillon was still very cold. Everyone entered the large tent and sat down. Lorne first exchanged pleasantries, smiling as he said: ”I heard that Her Grace, Duchess Emmanuelle, went through great hardships to finally return to Nuer. This is truly the fortune of the Empire and humanity!”

”Well, sort of.” Imperial General Dietrich sighed, somewhat dissatisfied as he said: ”If it weren’t for your Divine Chosen Champion Laine Macado getting our esteemed Lady pregnant, we would be happier.”

Immediately, the atmosphere inside the tent grew tense. It wasn’t exactly a secret that Emmanuelle, who held the titles of Duchess of Nuer, Brescia Prince-Elector, and Duchess of Weisen, was impregnated by the Lake Fairy Chosen Champion Laine Macado.
