Chapter 1215: Chapter 526: Sharp-Top Palace Defense Battle

It seemed that the Undead Vanguard was afraid of the power of the artillery and retreated.

Watching the Undead Army slowly retreat, Laine, standing on the city wall, let out a small sigh of relief. His expression was initially a bit more relaxed, but soon became more serious.

The female sorcerer Teresa, standing nearby, leaned on her magic staff and approached. She reached out a hand clad in white lace gloves to stroke a Dwarf Cannon, saying with interest, ”So this is what you meant by assurance?”

Teresa reached out and gently patted the ”Dwarf Cannon,” from which came a ”bonk-bonk” sound, not the echo of steel.

This cannon was made of wood, or rather, most of the ”cannons” on the city wall were wooden models.

When the Undead Vanguard approached, only a few of the cannons on the city wall were real. It was these few cannons that fired, scaring the Vanguard Army of the undead away and buying precious time for the defenders of Sharp-Top Palace.

This was all part of Laine’s plan. He had long ordered the Dwarf Craftsmen to make these deceptive Dwarf Cannon models, which were disassembled and stored in wooden crates, waiting to trick the undead.

”These things can only trick the undead once.” Laine slowly shook his head and said calmly, ”Once the undead come to their senses, and the Undead Army from Musillon arrives, these things won’t fool Mathew Bade.”

”But it was already enough.” Teresa nodded, ”They fulfilled their purpose.”

”Indeed.” Laine suddenly said to Teresa, ”If Lady Aurora is willing to participate in this war, our chances of victory would be much higher.”

”Mother should have already returned to the council.” Teresa shook her head, and the female sorcerer apologized somewhat, ”I’ve tried my best to persuade her, but she said this was already the limit. I’m sorry, Laine...”

”It’s okay, I understand.” Laine understood this well. From a standpoint, Aurora is Aurora, not Teresa; she doesn’t have such a strong stance to help him. Agreeing to previously create a blizzard and hailstorm through the Great Curse Technique was already giving Laine a lot of face. After all, the campaign against Musillon was Laine’s war, not Aurora’s or the Jialan Council’s.

The influence of vampires sprawled across the Old World. Once, a Kislev Tsarina ”Bloody Catherine” was a bloodline of the Lemya family. From a certain perspective, Aurora was unwilling to expose her outright opposition to the vampires.

”Move quickly! The undead will be back soon! We must get all the artillery on the walls before daybreak!”

”Yes!”

The entire five thousand garrison of Sharp-Top Palace was mobilized, preparing to fight to protect this castle.

Five hours later, in the early hours of the morning.

The retreating Vampire Lord Belites finally awaited the arrival of the Undead Army, led by Mathew Bade, on the road from Musillon to Sharp-Top Palace.

”Belites? What’s going on? Didn’t I order you to attack Sharp-Top Palace with all your might?” Mathew Bade was baffled upon seeing Belites and Har Harris appear, and he questioned, ”Why didn’t you follow orders?!”

”My Duke! The Southerners have perfected the castle defenses! The walls are full of artillery now!” Belites anxiously spoke to Mathew Bade, ”We tried to attack, but were attacked by artillery!”

”The walls are full of artillery?!” Mathew Bade, donned in black cursed armor and wearing a cross helmet topped with a golden serpent statue, had his expression obscured. The self-proclaimed Duke of Musillon mused for a moment and then shook his head violently, ”Impossible! I know the walls of Sharp-Top Palace and I’ve seen Dwarf Cannons. If Sharp-Top Palace had fallen the night before last, there is no way Laine and his army could have fully set up the artillery by yesterday afternoon! The Dwarf Cannon is so heavy that getting it up the walls hardly allows for using the tower stairs. The only possibility is hoisting it, and the walls of Sharp-Top Palace, unlike those of the Empire, don’t have hoisting devices equipped. To hoist them, you would have to make them on the spot. So no matter how you look at it, the Southerners couldn’t have gotten that many artillery pieces up on the walls, impossible!”

”But we really saw artillery all over the walls!” Belites instinctively retorted, ”When we got close, we were also attacked by a small number of artillery pieces! To conserve forces, I chose to retreat!”

”Attacked by artillery?” Mathew Bade immediately realized Laine’s plan and roared in anger, ”Damn, Belites, you’ve been duped, those aren’t real artillery at all!”

”But we were shelled! The artillery on the walls attacked us!”

”Only the few artillery that attacked you were real! Belites! You fool!” Mathew Bade gripped the reins of his Undead Warhorse, contemplating the cause and effect: ”Damn! Laine Macado, as the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Jade Pool, is so cunning and using such despicable methods! It’s utterly unbecoming of his status!”

Upon hearing Mathew Bade say this, the Blood Knights gathered by the side of the Musillon Viper nodded in agreement and resentment.

In several confrontations, Laine’s military tactics made the vampires completely at a loss. From the beginning, he never intended to engage the undead in formal battle; his various underhanded tactics have opened the vampires’ eyes, making them think that Laine, as the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy, could actually do such things. This often put the undead, accustomed to facing Brittania Knights in direct combat, at a disadvantage.
