Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2448: Chapter 2449: Return to Tianyun (15)

”Mm.” Taoming Ye answered in a warm voice, then picked up a round stool and sat down by the bed before speaking gently again, ”My second younger brother already has someone he likes. When he saw that I hadn’t taken a wife, he kindly suggested I marry you in his place.”

Su Xing immediately gave a cold laugh. ”Someone he likes, who is it?”

”Lord Wan’s youngest daughter.”

Su Xing laughed coldly again. ”Kindly, my ass. He had no way to get out of marrying me, so he pushed you out to take the vows with me.”

”If you’re not willing to be my wife, I can write you a divorce letter right now and send you back home.”

”Your family really knows how to scheme, huh! That Taoming Hai clearly thinks I’m not good enough for him and wants to climb up the social ladder, but because there’s already a marriage contract with me, he doesn’t dare not marry me. So he came up with this trick. If you divorce me now, I’ll count as having been married once, and with this murky mess between us, I’ll be even less valuable than if I’d never married at all! How am I supposed to get married a second time like that!”

Seeming a bit surprised that Su Xing would speak so sharply and even lay everything bare so that no one could save face, Taoming Ye watched her for quite a while before gently speaking again, ”Then what do you want to do?”

”Just like this. Anyway, we’ve already bowed to heaven and earth; we’re already husband and wife. It’s just that you have to promise me one thing.”

”What is it?”

”From now on, don’t let Taoming Hai and the others bully you like that again. Taoming Hai and the rest are obviously bullying you!”

Taoming Ye covered his mouth with his fist as he coughed, a strange look flashing through his downcast eyes, but his gentle face remained exceptionally soft. When he finished coughing, he said in a mild voice, ”They’re not bullying me.”

”You’re really a fool! They’re already bullying you right to your face and you still say you’re not being bullied!” This man was already her husband now, and Su Xing was so angry she shot to her feet. ”To put it bluntly, I’m just what Taoming Hai didn’t want, then handed over to you! Your health is bad, sure, but can you not have a bad brain too!”

Taoming Ye stared at her blankly for a long time before he finally gave a gentle smile. ”A harmonious family brings prosperity in everything.”

”Anyway, I don’t care. You’re my husband now. Since you’re my husband, you’re not allowed to let anyone bully you anymore!” Her parents had always been fiercely protective, and Su Xing was the same. Seeing him in poor health and still putting up with everything made her stomach fill with rage.

Taoming Ye’s smile grew even softer. ”I’ll do my best.”

”Not ’do your best,’ you have to... Forget it. I’ll be here from now on anyway. I’ll protect you!” Su Xing declared in an especially domineering tone.

Taoming Ye didn’t speak, just looked at Su Xing with an especially gentle, indulgent smile, as if his eyes held only Su Xing and no One Person else.

Su Xing rarely blushed, but now her face heated up and she snapped, ”What are you looking at? Aren’t we going to drink the cross-cupped wine or not?”

Then, remembering his poor health, she hurriedly added, ”You’re not well, so don’t drink. I’ll drink it alone.”

Taoming Ye stood up, gently taking her hand as he led her over to the table. While picking up the wine pot and pouring two cups, he said with a warm smile, ”This is the cross-cupped wine. No matter how bad my health is, I still have to drink it.”

As he spoke, he handed her one of the filled cups.

Su Xing felt that her husband’s voice was just too gentle and too pleasant to listen to, like being bathed in a spring breeze. With her face hot and her ears burning, and her heart thumping wildly, she figured this must be what it felt like to be moved.

After the two of them finished the cross-cupped wine, Taoming Ye softly urged Su Xing to eat.

Su Xing had sneaked a little food earlier, but her stomach was still very hungry. Now that she was allowed to eat, of course she dug in with no restraint, not afraid that Taoming Ye would laugh at her. She even remembered to pick dishes for him.

Even though Taoming Ye’s health was poor, his movements while eating were especially elegant, and watching him, Su Xing felt she’d accidentally picked up a treasure.
