Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2447: Chapter 2448: Return to Tianyun (14)

With various intricate wedding rituals such as the marriage ceremony, Su Xing was only sent into the bridal chamber by evening.

She heard the groom talking to the Wedding Matron while coughing, seemingly ill, but Su Xing didn’t mind.

Later, the groom went out again.

Su Xing, dressed in wedding attire, sat on the bed and waited for a long time but didn’t see the groom come back to lift her veil, so she thought about lifting it herself, but was stopped by her Maid Ding Hongye.

”Miss, you can only lift the veil when the groom arrives!”

”But my neck is so sore...” Having her head covered by this thing made Su Xing’s neck truly sore, as if she wanted to take it off immediately.

”That won’t do, otherwise when the groom comes back and sees it, he’ll say you’re unruly.” Ding Hongye lowered her voice to say. Then, she wondered aloud: ”Miss, there’s something odd about this groom.”

”What’s the matter?”

”I clearly heard the old lady say the groom is robust as an ox, but this groom seems to be ill, face as pale as a ghost, and keeps coughing.”

”Perhaps it’s just that he happens to be ill at this time.”

”True.” Hong Ye nodded.

”If you don’t let me lift the veil, then go secretly get something for me to eat, I’m starving.”

Hong Ye knew her Miss had been hungry all day, so she quickly went to the wedding table to get something, stuffed it into Su Xing’s hand, and let Su Xing eat.

Just as Su Xing finished eating the things Hong Ye brought, she heard voices approaching. Soon, several people entered, accompanied by a somewhat familiar cough, among whom should be her husband.

Hong Ye didn’t have anything to cover her view, and as soon as she saw the people coming in, she quickly greeted: ”Groom, you’ve come back so soon, why not have a few more drinks?”

Usually, on a wedding day, the groom gets drunk, but her new groom didn’t show such signs at all.

Taoming Ye said gently: ”I’m not well, so they didn’t dare make me drink, and I came back.”

The voice indeed was gentle.

Su Xing, however, felt something off. Huo Xiner had seen Taoming Hai before, clearly with a rough voice, like a boor, and looked brawny, like an ox. How could this voice be so gentle?

”You all may leave.” Taoming Ye gently waved his hand, and all the servants, including Hong Ye, exited.

For a moment, only Taoming Ye and Su Xing were left in the room.

Taoming Ye walked to the bedside and lifted Su Xing’s veil. It was then that Su Xing realized the groom wasn’t Taoming Hai but Taoming Hai’s elder brother—Taoming Ye.

Taoming Ye was not the legitimate son but the eldest son, a legitimate eldest, with poor health, sickly, leading to no high-status girls willing to marry him, fearing they’d end up widowed.

Yet Tao Chengyin was a third-grade minister, how could he let his eldest son marry someone without status? Thus, even though Taoming Ye was already twenty, he hadn’t married yet.

Now, in wedding attire, Taoming Ye looked gentle like jade, but due to poor health, his face was pallid, very slender, occasionally coughing, proving his poor health.

However, Taoming Ye’s appearance and gentle voice greatly appealed to Su Xing. Su Xing liked gentle and jade-like people with particularly soft-speaking, unfortunately, she hadn’t met one in modern times before she died.

Now, this person had become her husband, even though swapped, it was more pleasing than marrying Taoming Hai.

Though pleased, Su Xing still asked: ”Was it you who performed the ceremony with me today?”
