Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2000: Chapter 2001: Huo Qingyi Is Moved

...

The new manager will take a few days to arrive, so Huo Qingyi remains the Shopkeeper of Friends Return Inn.

However, unlike before, there’s always an elegant young man sitting in the corner on the first floor, eating while watching Huo Qingyi at the counter as she acts as the Shopkeeper.

Friends Return Inn has storytellers, and at this moment, Su Yixing is still leaning in the corner, tossing peanuts into his mouth, sipping wine, listening to the stories, while watching Huo Qingyi busy at the counter... Anyway, his life right now is extremely pleasant.

Sometimes he thinks, spending a lifetime here with Huo Qingyi wouldn’t be too bad.

Just when Su Yixing thought Huo Qingyi would stand by the counter working until dark just like before, someone with a mole on their face, a bit chubby, dressed very festively, unmistakably a matchmaker, came looking for Huo Qingyi.

Su Yixing’s starry eyes narrowed slightly.

”You’re Miss Huo, right? I’m the famous Matchmaker Wang from Yongqu City.” Matchmaker Wang was very enthusiastic. ”Second Young Master Liu from the Liu family asked me to come. He often comes to your inn to eat; you should know him.”

Huo Qingyi has never been warm; that’s just her nature, so she showed no smile, simply asking politely, ”Is there something you need?”

”Of course there’s something! And it’s a big joyous occasion! I’m here to bring you good news, Second Young Master Liu has taken a liking to you. If you have no objections, he could bring you into his family soon.”

It’s ”bring in,” not ”marry.”

”Bring in” means to take in as a concubine.

Before Huo Qingyi could speak, a waiter angrily cursed, ”The toad wants to eat swan meat, doesn’t even let himself take a look in the mirror. He wants to bring our Shopkeeper into his family? Even if it were a proper marriage, our Shopkeeper wouldn’t care for it!”

Matchmaker Wang saw the waiter’s rude words and wanted to retort, but thought about how Friends Return Inn had been in Yongqu City for many years, older than her, and the owner behind it must be difficult to deal with. Otherwise, the inn wouldn’t have stayed out of trouble for so many years.

Even though she really looked down on this waiter and Huo Qingyi, thinking one was just a runner and errand boy, and the other exposed herself to the public, she still suppressed her anger and spoke kindly, ”I’m here to ask Miss Huo’s opinion. If Miss Huo is unwilling, naturally Second Young Master Liu won’t force it. Why bother cursing and ruining the good atmosphere?”

”Clearly he’s too insulting...” The waiter wanted to curse again, but Huo Qingyi stopped him.

Huo Qingyi calmly said, ”I am already engaged to someone else, Matchmaker Wang, please leave.”

”Oh, you’re already engaged? I was being presumptuous then.” Matchmaker Wang enthusiastically said a lot of flattering words before leaving.

Huo Qingyi didn’t think much of it, treating it as if it had nothing to do with her. The matters that truly concerned her...

Thinking of this, Huo Qingyi couldn’t help but glance at Su Yixing, just as Su Yixing was also looking at her. She didn’t know if it was guilt or something else, but Huo Qingyi immediately lowered her head, not daring to meet Su Yixing’s gaze, and even felt a bit of warmth on her face.

She thought she might be blushing.

But why would she blush out of the blue? Was it just because he was looking at her? Yet he had been looking at her often before, and she felt nothing—why today...

Her heart seems to be beating a bit fast.

As if it would leap out from her throat.

Huo Qingyi didn’t quite understand what was happening to her, but she tried her best to remain calm, so others wouldn’t notice her peculiar behavior.
