Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1957: Chapter 1958: Once Bitten, Twice Shy

Gong Juechen nodded, ”Yeah, before I was always worried that Lele would stubbornly insist on marrying An Yiqing. Now An Yiqing doesn’t want to marry Lele at all, which makes me very angry, thinking Lele was wronged by him again, but it counts as solving one of our worries.”

He heard that An Yiqing always wanted multiple wives and concubines, and he didn’t want his precious daughter to share a husband with others. Just thinking about it, he felt aggrieved for his precious daughter.

Now, as he himself said, although he is very angry, it did solve a big worry.

...

The day after Gong Le returned to Slayer Tower, An Yiqing, An Yiqi, An Yilin, and An Yizhi returned to their parents’ place.

Seeing An Yiyun didn’t come back with them, An Jing asked, ”Where’s Yun Er, why didn’t he come back with you all? Does he have to wait until New Year’s Eve to come back?”

An Yiqing replied, ”Second brother said fourth brother’s health isn’t good enough for long travels, so I let fourth brother spend this year with second uncle.”

Her fourth son’s health was poor, An Jing felt very distressed, but still smiled and nodded, ”You did the right thing. He shouldn’t travel far; he should stay in the Imperial City and not come here.”

Pausing for a moment, An Jing spoke with much comfort, ”Luckily, you are watching over him in the Imperial City; otherwise, his health would definitely be more troubled.”

An Yiqing said, ”Mom, don’t say that; I am in the Imperial City not because of fourth brother, but to avoid being controlled by you all.”

An Jing just smiled, ”We all know why you always want to stay in the Imperial City. Alright, come inside, your elder sister-in-law cooked ginger soup for you, have a bowl to ward off the cold. This weather is getting colder, maybe there will be snow in the first month.”

”Snow in the first month promises a bountiful year, mom!” An Yiqi immediately replied with a cheeky smile.

In An Jing’s eyes, her fifth son An Yiqi was quite the quipster. Today it was rare he didn’t make a witty comment; instead he spoke of snow bringing a good year and immediately made An Jing laugh.

”Only you know how to talk.” An Jing smiled and glanced at An Yiqi before they went inside together.

Hearing the sound of horse hooves, she knew it must be her sons returning, so she came out to wait at the door.

As soon as An Yiqing and the others entered the yard, An Baobei rushed towards them.

”Third brother, fifth brother, sixth brother, seventh brother!” An Baobei was very happy, running over to hug An Yiqi, An Yilin, and An Yizhi. Then, wanting to hug An Yiqing, the third brother, An Yiqing thought of Gong Le and hastily avoided, not allowing An Baobei to hug him.

An Baobei suddenly looked unhappy, ”Third brother, do you not like me anymore? Why won’t you let me hug you?”

An Yiqing quickly explained with an awkward laugh, ”Not at all, it’s just that now you’re a big girl, you shouldn’t casually hug a man, even if he’s your brother.”

Upon hearing this, An Yiqi immediately laughed out loud, ”Third brother, you’re acting like you’ve been bitten by a snake and are now afraid of ropes; Baobei is still under seven, still a child, it’s okay for you two to hug.”

However, An Yiqing insisted, still refusing to let An Baobei hug him, ”Baobei will be seven in just over two months.”

An Baobei pouted and looked at An Jing, ”Mom, look at third brother, clearly he doesn’t like Baobei anymore.”

An Yiqing had no idea how to explain.

An Yiqi, An Yilin, and An Yizhi laughed until they were doubled over.

An Baobei was still young and didn’t understand much, but An Jing immediately sensed something wasn’t right and asked, ”Qinger, what’s wrong? Why did your fifth brother say you’ve been bitten by a snake and are afraid of ropes?”
