Chapter 1450: Chapter 1451: Lost Souls Under the Sword

The Xiyun Shield Army reacted swiftly, raising their shields one after another, using them to protect themselves and those behind them.

Arrows struck the shields continuously, yet Xiao Changyi and his men did not halt even for a moment, continuing to advance.

Ma Da Gong watched and anxiously stamped his feet, shouting repeatedly, ”Fire arrows! Fire arrows! Fire arrows!”

Just as Ma Da Gong was stamping his feet anxiously, while Xiao Changyi continued advancing with his army, a young lieutenant hurried to report to Ma Da Gong, ”Reporting to the Great General, the casualties on the eastern side are severe, reinforcements are needed!”

”We’ve already sent a hundred thousand troops as reinforcements, still need more?” Ma Da Gong couldn’t believe it, his eyes widening. ”How many enemy soldiers are there?”

”Just over two thousand enemy soldiers, but each is courageous and skilled in battle; four to five hundred warriors in black are even more formidable than those enemy soldiers, almost capable of fighting a thousand, countless of our soldiers have died at their hands.”

Ma Da Gong was shocked but puzzled, ”Warriors in black? What warriors in black?”

The lieutenant immediately responded, ”No idea where these black-clad warriors came from. They suddenly charged in during our skirmish with the enemy soldiers, aiding them ferociously against us. Their skills are extraordinary, even General Chen couldn’t stand against them.” After pausing, he said mournfully, ”General Chen has already fallen under the sword of a warrior in black!”

”Wha-what...” Ma Da Gong took two steps back, unable to believe they had lost a general just like that.

The situation was extremely urgent, and the lieutenant reminded him immediately, ”Please, Great General, send troops for reinforcement quickly, otherwise those warriors in black will soon advance here!”

Those warriors in black were terrifying, almost felling our soldiers with each move of their swords, like it required no effort.

Ma Da Gong wanted to send troops, but the problem was, there were only six hundred and fifty thousand in total: fifteen thousand at the West Gate, twelve thousand at the East Gate, ten thousand at the North Gate, leaving him with thirty-seven thousand. If more troops were dispatched, they might not be able to withstand Xiao Changyi’s nearly thirty thousand troops below the city.

But if they didn’t send more troops, not only would they lose the eastern side of Jingye City, but they would also advance here... posing a greater threat than Xiao Changyi’s forces attacking the city...

No other choice, Ma Da Gong had to dispatch troops, ”General Li, take fifteen thousand soldiers and provide reinforcement! You must completely destroy them for me!”

”Yes, Great General!” General Li immediately led fifteen thousand troops for reinforcement.

Ma Da Gong glanced below the city, the battering ram was almost at the gate now. He wanted another look, but an arrow suddenly shot towards him, forcing him to dodge quickly to avoid being hit.

”Why hasn’t anyone reported back from the West Gate?” Ma Da Gong hurriedly descended from the tower while asking the deputy general beside him.

The deputy general replied, ”Shall I go and have a look then?”

”Just send a soldier, you stay here. Xiyun’s main forces should be concentrated here.”

”Yes, Great General!”

Jingye City, below the tower.

With a gesture from Xiao Changyi, the archers hiding behind the shields immediately nocked arrows and drew their bows, unleashing a volley of arrows towards the Chilin archers on the tower.

Some archers were hit, either dying on the wall or falling down from the tower.

Finally, the battering ram reached the southern gate of Jingye City.

Without needing Xiao Changyi’s orders, the soldiers pushing the battering ram fiercely rammed the gate.

Boom!

The gate made a thunderous noise from the impact, yet only trembled slightly.

If once can’t break it, then twice.

Boom!

If twice can’t break it, then thrice.

Boom!

More than a dozen soldiers were pushing the battering ram, dedicated to this task, they weren’t fighting the enemy, they were just focusing on ramming the gate.
