Chapter 1410: Chapter 1411: I Just Know That I Need to Find You

Ye Zhi felt deeply moved. With every bite of the pancake wrapped around snake meat, she felt an urge to cry.

Her eyes were burning with heat.

She really wanted to cry.

This person was genuinely good to her.

Gong Juechen also heated up two pancakes for himself, then started eating with his portion of snake meat.

While eating, he asked Ye Zhi, ”Zhizhi, do you want me to heat up more pancakes for you? Is the food enough for you?”

Ye Zhi suppressed the urge to cry, kept her head down, continued eating, and slightly shook her head as she said, ”No need, it’s enough.”

After a while, Ye Zhi suddenly called out, ”Gong Juechen.”

”Hmm?”

”You don’t know Martial Arts, do you?”

”That’s right.” Gong Juechen lied without flushing or a hint of hesitation.

”Then why did you still come to this mountain?”

Without waiting for Gong Juechen to reply, Ye Zhi raised her head, her eyes reddened as she reprimanded, ”Do you know how dangerous it is here?!”

”I only know that I had to come to find you.”

Ye Zhi fell silent.

”Zhizhi...?” Gong Juechen looked at Ye Zhi’s reddened eyes, not knowing what she meant. Was she worried about him? Or was she blaming herself?

Ye Zhi finally spoke again, but only uttered two words: ”Thank you.”

Thank you for saving me.

Gong Juechen understood why she was thanking him and immediately said, ”I don’t need your thanks. I just want you to be okay. Now that you’re fine, I can be at ease.”

As he said this, Gong Juechen handed her the water pouch. ”Drink some water.” He worried she might be thirsty.

Ye Zhi paused her eating, quietly took the water pouch, drank a bit, and then returned it to Gong Juechen.

After finishing her food and drinking some water, Ye Zhi spoke again, ”I’m a bit tired. I’ll sleep first.”

Then she leaned against the cave wall and closed her eyes. She was truly exhausted. Her body was tired, and so was her heart.

If only this person wasn’t treating her so well just because he liked her face—how wonderful that would be...

Outside, it was still raining heavily, with thunder and lightning.

Gong Juechen tidied up the cave a bit, added more firewood to the fire, and sprinkled extra medicinal powder at the cave entrance before sitting down beside Ye Zhi.

Sitting down, he looked at Ye Zhi and gently pulled her sleeping form into his arms, letting her sleep nestled against him.

Sleeping against the cold cave wall would never be as comfortable as sleeping in his arms.

In truth, Ye Zhi wasn’t asleep at all. When Gong Juechen gently pulled her into his embrace, her heart pounded fiercely, but she didn’t resist. She continued feigning sleep, allowing him to hold her close.

With Gong Juechen’s warmth and presence beside her, instead of the cold, hard cave wall, Ye Zhi unexpectedly felt a rare sense of safety, as if staying in Gong Juechen’s arms was indeed secure.

Exhausted in both body and soul, and now feeling safe, Ye Zhi soon truly fell asleep.

Gong Juechen was also weary. Holding Ye Zhi in his arms, he quickly drifted off to sleep as well.

The rain stopped in the quiet hours past midnight.

Early the next morning, Ye Zhi woke up to find Gong Juechen holding her and smiling straight at her. She blinked in confusion a few times as she processed everything. Once it clicked, she pushed Gong Juechen away and wriggled out of his embrace.

”Who allowed you to hold me?!” Ye Zhi said, feigning anger.

Gong Juechen grinned cheekily as he stood up alongside her. ”I asked you last night if I could hold you while we slept. You didn’t say anything, so I took that as tacit approval~”

Ye Zhi: ”...” You clearly didn’t ask!

Still, she didn’t want Gong Juechen to know that she hadn’t been asleep when he held her, so Ye Zhi didn’t press the issue further. Instead, she muttered in a low voice, ”Shameless,” effectively letting the matter drop.
