Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1435: Chapter 1436: Can I Tell You the Truth?

”You’re thinking the right way.” An Jing breathed a huge sigh of relief. She was really afraid her good friend would do something silly. ”No matter how he annoys you, don’t hurt yourself because of him.”

Upon hearing An Jing’s words, Ye Zhi suddenly recalled the time when she gave the chilblain cream to Shi Shi and the others, while she had none for herself, resulting in her hands and feet being covered in chilblains.

Was that considered self-harm, hurting oneself?

Thinking of this, Ye Zhi shook her head vigorously in her heart. How could she possibly self-harm for that guy! Absolutely not! Absolutely not! She was overthinking it! Back then, she wasn’t self-harming! She only gave the cream to Shi Shi and the others because she saw that their chilblains were worse than hers! Yes! That’s it! That’s it!

”Ye Zi? Ye Zi? Ye Zi!” An Jing spoke again a couple of times, noticing that Ye Zhi wasn’t listening to her at all. So she started calling Ye Zhi, but Ye Zhi didn’t respond, lost in her thoughts. Then, An Jing nudged her with her elbow.

Being nudged, Ye Zhi came back to her senses and quickly asked, ”What’s up, Boss?”

”What are you thinking about, so entranced? I called you twice, and you didn’t even notice. Also, I guess you didn’t hear what I said to you just now, right?”

Ye Zhi chuckled awkwardly, ”I wasn’t thinking about anything, just zoned out for a bit, maybe didn’t sleep well last night. So, Boss, what were you saying to me just now?”

An Jing didn’t pay much attention to Ye Zhi not hearing her earlier and said, ”I was saying, he’s been kind of chasing/following you all this time and has done a lot for you. Now, he’s even cried for you; do you really not like him even a little bit?”

In the past, Ye Zhi would definitely have immediately replied that she certainly didn’t like him. But now, when Ye Zhi opened her mouth to say she didn’t like Gong Juechen at all, somehow, she couldn’t bring herself to say it.

Seeing Ye Zhi’s reaction, An Jing somewhat understood, and she didn’t press her to speak, just looked at Ye Zhi silently and sighed softly in her heart.

After a while, Ye Zhi finally said with a mournful look, ”Boss, can I... can I be honest with you?”

An Jing instantly chuckled, ”Here, if you can’t be honest with me, I don’t know who else you can be honest with.” She and she share a common secret, a secret they both fiercely protect — that neither of them is originally from here.

”Then I’ll say it,” Ye Zhi still looked mournful.

”Go on, go on—in all the time I’ve known you, this is the first time I’ve seen you so hesitant.”

Ye Zhi didn’t speak immediately. She was silent for a while, then said with a mournful face, ”I... I kind of have a little bit of feelings for him. Just a little bit, though. It’s not really love, but I don’t dislike him and I care.”

She used to particularly dislike him, but he’s been so good to her that she truly can’t bring herself to dislike him anymore.

Now her life was saved by him...

She’s not heartless, so how could she not care about him at all now?

Seeing Ye Zhi looking so conflicted, An Jing didn’t tease her and instead seriously asked, ”And what about his obnoxious remarks...?”

Ye Zhi immediately replied, ”Still very annoying!” She paused for a moment, ”But I’ve gotten used to it. As long as he’s not too excessive, I almost never get really mad.”

Previously, he could irritate her at the drop of a hat, but now she was much calmer than she used to be.

An Jing chuckled, ”So do you want to try things out with him? He’s actually quite dependable. Just look at how he treats his sister, and you’ll know.”
