Chapter 1418: Chapter 1419 Warming Up

”Something’s strange...” Suddenly, the soldier who was patrolling the border yesterday spoke up again. ”Yesterday, I seemed to see the flag on their city wall wasn’t ’Xiao,’ but ’Su.’ Isn’t it supposed to display the commander’s personal banner?”

”You don’t know, do you?” A soldier boasted, ”Yesterday, I overheard the Great General talking with the other generals. Turns out Xiao Changyi was granted the surname of Xiyun Kingdom a long time ago. Now his surname is Su, and he was even exceptionally granted the title of Prince.”

”Oh, so that’s how it is.”

The night was cold, the water was icy, and after staying in it for a long time, Li Wuyu began to shiver.

An Jing noticed Li Wuyu shivering and silently gestured with her hand, signaling Li Wuyu to swim back ashore to recover before returning.

Afraid her shivering might drag An Jing down, Li Wuyu obediently swam back without making a sound.

An Jing remained in the water, leaning against the bank, with only her eyes exposed. She continued observing the situation before her and eavesdropping on the soldiers’ conversation.

Just then, two more soldiers approached and sat down beside the others, chatting away.

”Aren’t you supposed to be serving the Great General? Why are you here?” The other soldiers sounded surprised.

These two soldiers were responsible for serving tea and water to the Great General. Upon hearing the question, one of them replied, ”The Great General said he had a headache and went to rest after dinner. He told us we didn’t have to attend to him in his tent.”

”The Great General has a headache? Is it serious? Has the military doctor checked on him?”

”The military doctor already took a look. He said it’s nothing major. After taking some medicine and getting some sleep, he should be fine.”

Upon hearing that their Great General could recover with just a night’s rest, everyone was finally at ease. If their Great General were to fall ill at this critical moment, how would Xiao Changyi lead the troops to conquer the city?

”Aren’t you supposed to be serving General Huang? Why are you here too?” One of the soldiers serving the Great General suddenly asked the other soldier curiously.

”General Huang is discussing important matters with General Chen and the others. It’ll take a long time, and they don’t need me to serve tea or water inside. They told me to roll far away, so I rolled here.”

”Hahaha—” Everyone burst out laughing.

An Jing, however, didn’t laugh. Instead, she pondered deeply about how advantageous it would be if she managed to infiltrate the Great General’s tent.

The Great General was the commander, and the tent where he resided in the military camp was the most heavily guarded area. Not only did it house the army’s highest-ranking leader, but it also contained many crucial items.

Things like military maps, for instance.

If she could steal Chilin Kingdom’s military maps, they wouldn’t need to risk exploring enemy territory to understand its layout the next time they attacked another city.

Thinking of this, An Jing realized she was starting to shiver too. The icy night and cold water were beginning to overwhelm her body.

She had no choice but to reluctantly stop listening, submerge herself in the water, and slowly swim back.

Once ashore, An Jing sat beside Li Wuyu, hiding in the bushes. Both were unbearably cold, but they couldn’t light a fire to warm up. They could only try to warm themselves using their still-dry camouflage uniforms.

But the camouflage uniform didn’t provide much warmth. An Jing and Li Wuyu kept rubbing their arms over and over.

Remembering the strong liquor in their water bags, An Jing took it out, let Li Wuyu drink a mouthful to warm up first, and then took a sip herself.

She had brought along two water bags, one filled with water and the other with strong liquor.

Last night, it rained heavily, and the group was on a mountain, high above the ground, feeling the chill. To stave off the cold, they had already drunk quite a bit of the strong liquor to keep warm.
