Chapter 1405: Chapter 1406: Landslide

Ye Zhi was the first to step onto the steep slope, and as soon as she did, whether it was because the slope felt the pressure or had already reached its critical point, it collapsed.

Ye Zhi went down along with it.

”Zhizhi!”

As Gong Juechen caught sight of Ye Zhi, he witnessed this heart-stopping scene, and his heart almost stopped beating from the fright. He rushed desperately toward Ye Zhi’s falling position, trying to save her.

”Deputy General!” Shi Shi, who had been right behind Ye Zhi, saw the landslide and Ye Zhi falling. She hurriedly reached out to pull Ye Zhi, but not only did she fail to grab her, the expanding range of the landslide pulled herself down as well.

The landslide continued, and when Shi Shi and Ye Zhi rolled to the bottom along with the earth and mud, they were instantly buried by the heavy soil that followed.

”Deputy General! Shi Shi!” The four female soldiers who had been following behind were terrified.

Gong Juechen hadn’t reached the scene of the landslide yet, but he saw Ye Zhi buried under thick layers of earth. His face turned ashen, even paler than white paper, and his entire body started trembling.

”Zhizhi... Zhizhi...” His lips quivered, his pupils trembled, his eyes turned red, and Gong Juechen didn’t care whether a landslide might occur again. He immediately dropped to the ground and started digging furiously with his bare hands.

Madly digging through the soil.

Gong Juechen had gone insane. He didn’t care if his hands might get injured; he just kept digging with all his might. His hands were bleeding profusely, but he paid no attention and continued his frantic digging.

He dug tirelessly at the spot where Ye Zhi was buried.

”Zhizhi... Zhizhi...” While crazily excavating, Gong Juechen kept muttering urgently under his breath, his voice trembling and choked with sobs. ”Hold on... Hold on... I will save you... I WILL save you... Hold on... I beg you... Hold on...”

The steep slope had collapsed and was impassable. Su Chengyuan and the others had no choice but to take a detour. Then, they arrived next to Gong Juechen and began urgently digging through the soil alongside him.

Shi Shi and Ye Zhi were very close to each other, right in this spot. They had to quickly clear the soil and rescue the two to prevent them from suffocating to death beneath it.

At this moment, Su Chengyuan and the others were too focused on rescuing to spare a thought about why Gong Juechen had appeared here.

Everyone’s hands were bloody from digging.

However, the four female soldiers weren’t as frenzied as Gong Juechen.

Gong Juechen was completely deranged now, digging with savage force and extraordinary speed. He seemed completely numb to the pain in his hands, frantically and forcefully excavating, tears streaming down his cheeks.

Meanwhile, the rain continued to pour mercilessly, torrentially flooding down, washing away his tears the moment they emerged.

”Zhizhi... Zhizhi...” Gong Juechen’s lips quivered ever more violently, his sobs growing more anguished. Despite not yet uncovering Ye Zhi, his sheer desperation made him cling to life—he couldn’t afford to die, not when he needed to save her.

When he finally uncovered Ye Zhi’s shoulder, Gong Juechen’s peach blossom eyes lit up. He urgently moved his hands to dig away the soil covering her head.

As soon as Ye Zhi’s head was exposed, Gong Juechen didn’t even need to clean her face himself; the heavy rain quickly washed the mud off her face. But it couldn’t clear the soil lodged in her mouth and nose. Gong Juechen hurriedly cleaned out Ye Zhi’s airway.

After clearing Ye Zhi’s mouth and nose, Gong Juechen quickly checked her breathing, only to discover she wasn’t breathing at all. Gong Juechen immediately let out a heart-wrenching cry, ”Ah—ah—AH—!”

While crying out in agony, he wept uncontrollably and continued digging away the soil from Ye Zhi’s body.
