Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1448: Chapter 1449: Reinforcements

The Chilin soldiers guarding the riverside were caught off guard, unable to dodge, and were all shot dead.

The soldiers further away from the river saw their companions shot dead, realized the enemy had attacked from this side, and amidst the panic and shouting, soon many Chilin soldiers gathered by the river to fend off the enemy.

Ye Zhi and Qi Gaoda didn’t care how many people gathered, under the cover of the rain of arrows, they swiftly swam across the river. Once ashore, they fearlessly battled the enemy.

Once Ye Zhi and the others crossed the river, the archers stopped firing arrows and lit a pile of wolf smoke signals.

The wolf smoke rose straight into the sky, soon ascending past the mountain top. Not only did Xiao Changyi see it, but even Ma Da Gong saw it.

Seeing the wolf smoke, Xiao Changyi had a clear understanding — they had entered the enemy camp.

Ma Da Gong saw the wolf smoke and was furious when it rose from the place adjacent to Jingye City and the mountain. He immediately cursed, ”Good kid, dares to send troops through the mountains!”

The mountains were infested with fierce animals; he didn’t even dare venture there. Yet Xiao Changyi actually dispatched troops through them.

If he were Xiao Changyi, he definitely wouldn’t have done this; it was truly too dangerous!

However, seeing the wolf smoke was all he could do; he couldn’t see how many troops Xiao Changyi sent to attack Jingye City through the mountains...

”General Chen, quickly lead a hundred thousand troops to reinforce!” Ma Da Gong urgently commanded.

That area was weak; if attacked from there, it would be easy to penetrate the city.

Earlier thinking Xiao Changyi would immediately attack the city, he left only twenty thousand soldiers there. If many enemies attacked from there, twenty thousand soldiers wouldn’t suffice. Sending a hundred thousand troops was safer.

He didn’t believe Xiao Changyi could have so many troops.

He could see nearly three hundred thousand now; Xiyun isn’t Chilin, and likely doesn’t have that many soldiers to lend Xiao Changyi for the attack.

While Ye Zhi and Qi Gaoda fought enemies, seeing more and more enemy soldiers approaching them, they felt like the enemies were endless.

Initially, things were manageable, but when faced with too many enemies, killing one only led to another...

Ye Zhi could fight hand-to-hand well, but she wasn’t as skilled as Li Wuyu and the others in killing enemies with a sword.

Her stamina was severely depleting.

Seeing they had attracted at least several thousand soldiers, Ye Zhi shouted at the soldiers by the wolf smoke, ”Light more!”

The soldiers immediately lit another pile of wolf smoke, and as the smoke was rising slowly, the forest suddenly crackled, startling them. They turned around quickly, only to see a large group of masked, black-clad warriors wielding longswords, their cold blades flashing, rushing out from the mountains.

The soldiers assumed they were adversaries, promptly picked up their bows, intending to shoot at the black-clad warriors.

But before they could fire, they saw several black-clad warriors charge past them, vaulting over the river and swiftly and cleanly killed the Chilin soldiers around Ye Zhi.

Seeing they were allies, the soldiers put away their bows, entered the river, swam across, and joined Qi Gaoda in fighting the enemy.

Exhausted and surrounded by enemy soldiers, Ye Zhi was alone. Not paying attention, she could be injured by the enemy, just as she hesitated whether to take out the pistol strapped to her leg — one shot at a time — to resolve one enemy at a time. Suddenly, several black-clad warriors descended from the sky, slaughtering all the enemy soldiers surrounding her.

”...” Ye Zhi hadn’t even reacted when she saw a few bamboo poles laid across the river, and a group of black-clad warriors wielding cold longswords stepped onto the poles and joined the battle.
