Chapter 1436: Chapter 1437: Will Strive to Control My Own Heart

Ye Zhi said, ”Se Se is his biological sister, so it’s his responsibility, of course he’d act that way. But I... my face won’t stay like this forever. I will age, and when my face changes and I’m no longer young, will he, who only loves my face, still treat me so well? Do you think that’s possible?”

Without waiting for An Jing to speak, Ye Zhi answered herself, ”Anyway, I think it’s impossible.”

”There you go again, circling back to him being infatuated with your face.” An Jing was practically at a loss for words. ”Pretending disfigurement to test him will be seen through, and you can’t actually disfigure yourself. Tell me, what exactly do you want to do?”

”Just like this, I’m too lazy to worry about it. Luckily, I don’t really like him that much, just a little. If I grow old and get wrinkles, even if I don’t push him away, he’ll no longer be infatuated with my face and won’t treat me well. In the end, it’s one word—’endure’!”

”I think you should have more confidence in yourself. You’re really such a good person.” Pausing for a moment, An Jing said earnestly, ”Ye Zi, I truly think he doesn’t just like your face, he must genuinely like you as a person. Back then, he never treated Jade Jade so well.”

Ye Zhi was still unconvinced, ”Boss, I honestly don’t think he likes me as a person. He just likes my face.”

”Isn’t your face also a part of you?”

”But my face can’t stay unchanged forever, can it? If my face could stay unchanged, eternally youthful, then I’d be willing to give it a try with him. But it can’t.” Ye Zhi smiled bitterly. ”Boss, I genuinely don’t want to end up with him and have the result be pain instead of happiness. Boss, there’s a saying, you’ve probably heard it before, ’Relying on looks to please others, how long can that last’... I don’t want that temporary time; I want a lifetime, like you and brother-in-law.”

An Jing was momentarily silent. Yes, relying on looks to please others, how long can that last? If Gong Juechen really only liked Ye Zhi’s current appearance, then when Ye Zhi grows old and loses her beauty...

”Thankfully,” Ye Zhi suddenly comforted herself, ”I don’t really like him much.”

An Jing felt particularly uncomfortable hearing this.

”I’ll try hard to control my heart and not let myself like him more.” Ye Zhi spoke up again. ”Just like this is fine, just like this is fine.” Just liking him a little, so even when he likes someone else, she’d only be a little sad.

An Jing felt even more uncomfortable.

But before she could say anything, she saw Ye Zhi begin to smile, looking as though nothing was wrong: ”Boss, hurry up and eat, the food has all been cooled by me.”

While using chopsticks to feed An Jing, Ye Zhi laughed and said, ”Boss, just rest assured, with you as my support, I can live very comfortably here. Even if I can’t find someone who loves me to spend my lifetime with, I won’t be miserable.”

Ye Zhi single-handedly wrapped up the conversation, so An Jing said nothing more and just sighed.

Just then, the door was knocked upon. It was only knocked once. Immediately after, the door was pushed open, and Xiao Changyi walked in.

Upon seeing Xiao Changyi, An Jing’s eyes instantly lit up, ”Husband, you’re back!”

Ye Zhi watched An Jing’s demeanor and felt a bit wistful inside. She wondered if she could ever have such happiness as her boss.

”Mm.” Xiao Changyi responded while closing the door, and once it was closed, he walked quickly over to An Jing.
