Chapter 1403: Chapter 1404: An Jing’s Unrest

As long as Jingye City is conquered, it means we’ve entered the Chilin Kingdom. If the Chilin Kingdom doesn’t take this seriously, then that would be unusual.

An Jing and Xiao Changyi’s plan is to fight their way step by step from Jingye City to the Chilin Imperial City.

”Six hundred thousand?!” Upon hearing An Jing say that there might be six hundred thousand troops stationed in Jingye City, the five female soldiers were stunned.

Liu Feifei muttered, ”That’s two hundred thousand more than us. If we face them head-on, we don’t stand much chance of winning.”

Baoqin pondered aloud, ”Why would Chilin station so many troops here? Aren’t they worried about leaving other places vulnerable and inviting other nations to invade them?”

An Jing replied, ”Not only is Chilin’s army strong, but they also have a lot of soldiers. When they invaded our Xiyun years ago, they deployed as many as eight hundred thousand troops.”

Back then, Chilin’s eight hundred thousand-strong army captured four cities in Xiyun, including Xilin City.

It was only later, when Xiao Changyi led his troops and dealt blow after blow to Chilin, that Xiyun managed to reclaim those four cities.

However, due to Xiyun’s limited forces at the time, compounded by years of constant warfare that weakened the nation and strained military funds, Xiao Changyi didn’t continue to fight Chilin. Instead, he merely reclaimed Xiyun’s territory and had Chilin sign a peace agreement promising not to invade Xiyun again.

Du Aya remained particularly optimistic: ”If we flatten Chilin, all their soldiers would then become part of our Xiyun forces.”

An Jing liked Du Aya’s optimistic outlook. While drawing a map of the terrain she observed on the parchment paper, she nodded and smiled softly, ”That’s true.”

Li Wuyu said, ”Once we flatten Chilin, Xiyun would be the strongest and largest nation among them all. I’d like to see who would dare bully Xiyun then!”

”Exactly!” Du Aya passionately agreed.

An Jing merely smiled and didn’t continue speaking, focusing entirely on drawing the map.

Creating the map took quite a lot of time, especially since An Jing was drawing it with great detail, capturing almost everything she could see.

While An Jing was busy drawing the map, dark clouds began to gather in the sky, making it darker and darker.

”Is it going to rain?” The female soldiers frowned. This wasn’t good news. Climbing up the mountain had already been difficult, and if it started to rain, getting down the mountain would be even harder.

The problem was, the map wasn’t complete yet, so they couldn’t descend immediately.

An Jing frowned as well but remained relatively composed. She spoke calmly, ”We brought a tent along, didn’t we? Set up the tent, and at worst, we’ll spend the night here.”

Upon hearing what An Jing said, the five female soldiers began setting up the tent under the trees.

Just as the tent was set up, it started to rain, and the female soldiers took shelter inside to avoid getting wet.

An Jing initially thought that if the rain was light, she could continue drawing the map from the tree. However, the rain was too heavy, and the sky was covered in gray mist. Even with a telescope, it was impossible to see clearly. Eventually, An Jing climbed down from the tree and joined the female soldiers in the tent to avoid the rain.

Sitting inside the tent and looking out at the heavy rain, An Jing remarked, ”It seems there’s no way we’re going back tonight. Fortunately, we were farsighted and brought enough provisions to last several days.”

Du Aya immediately joked, ”I’d better start rationing my food then. I thought we’d be back in a day, so earlier when you all had one biscuit, I ate several myself.”

Everyone was amused and burst out laughing.

Watching the rain grow heavier, a tinge of unease crept into An Jing’s heart, and she couldn’t help but say again, ”I wonder how Ye Zi and the others are doing.”
