Chapter 1400: Chapter 1401: Went the Wrong Way?

If we can see clearly from here, they won’t need to keep going further up.

Watching An Jing swiftly climb up a very tall tree, the five female soldiers were stunned for a moment before feeling deeply impressed.

”Master... General, I didn’t expect you to have this kind of skill.” Li Wuyu originally wanted to call her ”Master,” but suddenly realized this wasn’t a private setting, so she quickly corrected herself and addressed her as ”General.”

Du Aya tried climbing a tree herself, but after two attempts and finding she couldn’t make it, she praised, ”General, I’ve never seen anyone better at climbing trees than you. Teach us sometime, will you?”

While continuing to climb, An Jing cheerfully replied, ”No problem. When we have the chance, I’ll definitely teach you all.”

Li Wuyu, Du Aya, Tobanya, Baoqin, and Liu Feifei kept their heads raised, watching An Jing from the base of the tree, while also paying attention to their surroundings. It was said that wild beasts roamed rampant in these mountains, so they needed to stay vigilant.

It wasn’t until An Jing reached the highest part of the tree that could support standing that she stopped. She wrapped one arm around the trunk and pulled out a telescope from her clothing with the other, her eyes surveying the distance.

This tree was very tall, and the view from up high was unobstructed. However, even with the telescope, An Jing couldn’t spot any trace of Jingye City.

”I don’t see Jingye City, just tons of trees shorter than this one, stretching endlessly. Nothing else stands out. Could it be we’ve gone the wrong way?” An Jing spoke to the female soldiers below while continuing to scan the area with the telescope.

Tobanya replied, ”That shouldn’t be the case. It’s probably just that we’re not yet close enough to see Jingye City.”

”Then let’s keep heading southeast.” Saying that, An Jing packed away the telescope and slid down the tree with an impressively agile motion.

The female soldiers watched in awe. The reason they admired An Jing was not just because of her noble status but because she genuinely possessed remarkable skills.

After walking another hour southeast, An Jing climbed another tree, yet still saw nothing but trees. Left with no choice, she led the group to continue walking for another hour.

When An Jing climbed a tree for the third time, she finally managed to catch sight of a corner of Jingye City. Just a corner—her view was far from expansive. It was clear they needed to keep heading southeast.

Du Aya, cutting through foliage and forging ahead, laughed and said, ”Isn’t it said that wild beasts run rampant in these mountains? We’ve been here for so long, yet we haven’t encountered a single one.”

Liu Feifei remarked gently, ”Isn’t that a good thing? If we really ran into a wild beast, scratches on our hands and faces would be the least of our concerns.”

Baoqin, with elegant humor, teased, ”A Ya thinks the cuts on her face aren’t enough.”

Li Wuyu joined in the banter, ”A Ya, judging by your look, you want a wild beast to appear, huh? Alright then, let’s have a bear come out and see if you or the bear is stronger.”

”Hahaha...” Everyone, Du Aya included, burst into laughter.

Between fits of laughter, Du Aya scolded Li Wuyu, ”You’re always so sharp-tongued! There’s no way I’m as strong as a bear. My elder brother, now he’s as sturdy as a bear!”

The elder brother Du Aya referred to was Qi Gaoda, the eldest son of her foster father, Qi Tengfei.

It took An Jing quite some effort to stop laughing before she said, ”You all really need to stop talking about beasts and bears. What if one actually shows up?”

Tobanya smiled faintly and added, ”Good things never come true, but bad ones often do. I think we should heed the General’s advice and drop the topic altogether. If a wild beast actually appears, it’ll really be trouble.”
