Chapter 1379: Chapter 1380 An Jing is Appointed Brave and Martial General

”But,” Su Chengyu continued, ”these female soldiers are also part of the regiment. If they follow us into battle like a group set loose without order... how about this? I appoint Sister-in-law as Brave and Martial General, and Ye Zhi as Deputy General, to lead the female soldiers and join the expedition to crush Chilin.”

Being appointed as Brave and Martial General, since it was merely to manage Ye Zhi and ten female soldiers, An Jing had no objections.

After a brief silence, Su Chengyu still said, ”Sister-in-law, Father has just passed away. Chengyuan is deeply pained in her heart. I hope you can look after her a little, ensure she comes back alive and well.”

An Jing responded, ”We’ll all come back alive and well; don’t worry.”

Su Chengyu nodded, indicating his trust in her words.

Then, Xiao Changyi and Su Chengyu discussed matters late into the night. Only then did Xiao Changyi return home with An Jing.

When they arrived back at Prince Yi’s Mansion, they found Gong Juese waiting for them inside.

As soon as Gong Juese saw them, she cheerfully came forward to greet them. ”Jingjing, Brother Changyi, you’re finally back! I came here during the day and have been waiting for nearly eight hours.”

Gong Juese had no idea that Su Haoyu was her father. In fact, apart from the people she cared about, she didn’t concern herself with whether others lived or died. So when it came to Su Haoyu, the Retired Emperor’s death, she genuinely felt nothing at all.

Seeing that Gong Juese showed no trace of sorrow and was instead rather joyful, An Jing immediately thought to herself, ”Your brother has truly protected you too well. In the future, we’ll also protect you, letting you continue to live this carefree and happy life.”

As the saying goes, an elder brother is like a father, and an elder sister-in-law is like a mother. Before their adoptive father passed away, he entrusted all his children to her and her husband. Since they had promised him, she and her husband must fulfill their responsibility.

Out loud, An Jing asked, ”Se Se, you’ve been waiting for us so long. Is there something important?”

Gong Juese immediately replied, ”Yes, it’s something very important. My husband will be leaving in three days to transport provisions as the supply officer appointed by you. I want to go with him, but he won’t let me. So I came to find you, hoping you’d talk to him on my behalf.”

An Jing said, ”We’re going to war; it’s no place for family members.”

”It’s precisely because you’re going to war, so dangerous, that I want to go! My husband’s martial arts skills are nowhere near as good as mine. If I go, I can protect him.” With that, Gong Juese started pleading coquettishly, ”Jingjing, please agree, let me go! I want to protect my husband.”

An Jing looked a little troubled. ”The problem is, military camps have no precedent for bringing along family members. I can’t set that precedent.”

”Then how can you and Ye Zi go?”

”I’m not going as my husband’s family member. I’ve been appointed Brave and Martial General and am leading the female soldiers to battle. It’s legitimate on my part.”

”Then I’ll join the military too. Can’t you station me near my husband?”

An Jing was both amused and exasperated. ”It’s not up to you to decide to join the military.”

Xiao Changyi, however, said, ”You can go with Meng Lanqing. Meng Lanqing is a general, and as a general, he can bring a few personal guards. You can act as one of his personal guards.”

Gong Juese’s face immediately lit up with joy. ”Thank you, Brother Changyi!”

But An Jing felt a bit uneasy. ”Husband, isn’t this inappropriate?”

Knowing what she disagreed with, Xiao Changyi replied, ”Chengyu has already allowed women to join the military. Naturally, female soldiers can also serve as personal guards.”
