Chapter 1390: Chapter 1391: This Is What You Agreed To

After a while, Gong Juechen slowly said, ”There really isn’t any ordinary frostbite ointment left. This ointment was specifically prepared for you; I only made three bottles. One was shamelessly snatched away by Changyi to use on Jingjing, one was given to you, and yet you gave it away to someone else... Forget it, let’s not talk about that. Anyway, now there’s only this bottle left in my hands. Once I finish applying it for you, I’ll make more for you—just don’t give it to anyone else again, okay? Did you hear me?”

As he spoke, Gong Juechen’s tone became particularly stern. Seeing how her hands and feet had been frostbitten to such an awful state, it pained him to the point he felt like he might die from heartbreak—unless his heart was made of stone!

Ye Zhi thought that the present Gong Juechen seemed a bit different, but she didn’t say anything.

Seeing Ye Zhi remain silent, Gong Juechen assumed he had spoken too harshly, and his tone had upset her. Hastily, he softened his voice and said gently, ”I’m only worried about you. I created this especially for you because I didn’t want you to suffer from frostbite. And yet, you still ended up like this. It truly makes me feel terrible seeing you like this. Zhizhi, just listen to me this once, will you? Please don’t give the ointment to anyone else anymore. Just look at your hands and feet—what have you done to yourself...?”

As he spoke, Gong Juechen’s voice choked with emotion, and his peach blossom-shaped eyes became red.

Ye Zhi paused for a moment before asking, ”Are you really about to cry in front of me?”

”If crying would actually make a difference, I wouldn’t mind crying for you.”

Ye Zhi paused again before saying, ”You’re really not like a man.” Which man cries at the drop of a hat?

After thinking for a moment, Ye Zhi added, ”Alright, I won’t give it away again. Just stop with the crying—it’s like I’ve bullied you.”

”You’ve promised now, so you definitely can’t give it to anyone else!” Gong Juechen suddenly lit up with excitement. Yet, as soon as his peach blossom-shaped eyes landed on her swollen red hands, his heart ached once more.

Even so, he didn’t say anything more. He immediately started applying the ointment to her hands with care.

Ye Zhi lowered her gaze, watching Gong Juechen carefully and gently applying the ointment to her hands with a mixture of seriousness and tenderness. Her heart felt a bit complicated, yet also warmed.

Although he was enamored with her face, he truly treated her well.

Once Gong Juechen finished treating both of Ye Zhi’s hands, he tested the temperature of the water in the wooden basin. Finding that the water was no longer warm and unsuitable for soaking her feet any longer, he picked up a towel and gently lifted her feet out of the basin, drying them off one by one before placing them on the bed.

”Don’t my feet smell bad?” Suddenly, Ye Zhi couldn’t help blurting out the question, and even she was taken aback once she said it.

Gong Juechen couldn’t help but laugh and responded, ”Still holding onto that grudge, are you? Back then it wasn’t my fault—you really did smell bad, and I’ve always hated bad smells. But now, even if you did smell, I wouldn’t mind it.”

Ye Zhi didn’t ask why he wouldn’t mind. She could already guess his answer. He would surely say that he liked her, and so no matter how bad she smelled, he wouldn’t care.

But if bad smells didn’t bother him, what if she became ugly?

Ye Zhi really wanted to ask him this question, but as she opened her mouth, she hesitated and didn’t dare to speak up.

So, instead, she shut her mouth and stayed silent. She simply watched as Gong Juechen dried his hands and then delicately applied the frostbite ointment to her feet.

”Zhizhi, you have to listen to me,” Gong Juechen said in a gentle tone. ”This ointment should be applied at least once a day. Just put it on before you go to bed; it won’t take much time. Please don’t let yourself end up like this again. You might not mind being in such a sorry state, but I care—deeply.”
