Chapter 1377: Chapter 1378: She Just Wants to Tear Off the Mask on His Face

Ye Zhi carefully looked at Gong Juechen, confirming she wasn’t hallucinating, and only then stood up, saying, ”Since you’re all better now, I’ll be leaving.”

She was here to feed him on a schedule, so if he didn’t need that anymore, what reason did she have to stay?

”Zhizhi!” Gong Juechen quickly grabbed her hand, then started complaining, ”You obviously care about me deep down, so why act so cold and distant toward me?”

Ye Zhi: ”...”

Gong Juechen continued, ”These days you’ve been feeding me drinks, feeding me food, and even sleeping with me—”

”Who slept with you?!” Ye Zhi interrupted him before he could finish, exploding in anger at the mention of ”sleeping with him.”

Gong Juechen looked innocent, ”I sleep, and you sit beside me keeping me company. Isn’t that considered sleeping with me?”

”Then make it clear!” Ye Zhi retorted, feeling annoyed. His words were obviously easy to misinterpret!

”Don’t mind the details,” Gong Juechen said casually. ”Come on, sit down quickly. I just started eating—we can eat together.”

”I’ve already eaten.”

”Don’t you always feed me first before eating yourself?”

Ye Zhi froze. That was indeed her routine—coming every day to feed him before eating her own meal. But she had never mentioned this to him, so how did he know?

Did he follow her every time after she fed him, watching her go eat?

With that thought, Ye Zhi narrowed her eyes at Gong Juechen. ”This whole sorry state of yours recently—could it have been fake?”

Gong Juechen instantly nodded enthusiastically, grinning. ”Yeah, yeah, I was faking it, just to see if you cared about me. I knew it—you definitely have feelings for me. Look at you, feeding me water, feeding me food, even keeping me company while I slept—it’s clear you care about me a lot! Way more than I expected. Zhizhi, I absolutely love you to death!”

Ye Zhi just stared at him.

Gong Juechen seemed oblivious, grinning shamelessly as he added, ”Zhizhi, you’re so gullible. I don’t even know who my dad is, so how could I possibly know whether he’s alive or dead? When I said my dad had died, you actually believed me. Haha...”

Ye Zhi continued staring at Gong Juechen, beginning to understand why he suddenly seemed back to his usual self. Yesterday, Su Haoyu had already been buried in the imperial mausoleum.

Right now, Ye Zhi felt... a little heartache.

Before, she didn’t think Gong Juechen was pretending. But now that she knew he was, it made her feel uneasy.

”Zhizhi, why aren’t you saying anything?” Finally, after babbling on endlessly, Gong Juechen noticed something was off. ”Are you angry because I lied to you? But I already explained, didn’t I? I just wanted to test how much you cared about me. Seeing how much you care, I feel relieved now.” As he spoke, Gong Juechen beamed happily.

In the past, Ye Zhi would definitely feel like slapping Gong Juechen at this point.

But now, she just wanted to rip off the mask he wore on his face.

Aren’t you tired of pretending? I’m exhausted just watching you!

Yet Ye Zhi didn’t say this out loud. Instead, she simply sat back down in her chair, picked up the chopsticks on the table, and said indifferently, ”Let’s eat.”

”Oh, alright. Let’s eat.” Gong Juechen was startled for a moment, then quickly sat down across from Ye Zhi and picked up his chopsticks, starting to eat. ”Zhizhi, this is for you.”

Gong Juechen picked up a large drumstick and placed it in Ye Zhi’s bowl, urging her to eat.

”Did you have someone bring this again?” Military camp food wasn’t exactly rich and flavorful like this.

”Yup,” Gong Juechen replied. ”Someone left the military camp early this morning, so I asked them to bring it back. They made it back just before noon, so I got it in time.”
