Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1393: Chapter 1394: You Can’t See Me, Can’t See Me...

The two agricultural officials are Tong Nongzhi and Guo Nongzhi.

Tong Nongzhi and Guo Nongzhi once learned how to use nutrition bowls to grow cotton seedlings from An Jing. At that time, neither of them knew that Xiao Changyi and An Jing were Prince Yi and Princess Yi. Pettily bearing a grudge against An Jing for humiliating them, they still harbored ambitions. They thought to themselves that if they were ever promoted, they would make An Jing suffer.

But now...

The Emperor had already issued an edict to Xiyun, appointing Prince Yi as Great General of the Campaign to Crush Chilin. Now, riding at the very front of the soldiers, clad in resplendent battle armor, and looking imposing, Xiao Changyi—isn’t he Prince Yi?!

And the female officer following behind Xiao Changyi, his wife, who had once taught them how to use nutrition bowls—if Xiao Changyi is Prince Yi, then doesn’t that make An Jing the Princess?!

Tong Nongzhi and Guo Nongzhi, at this moment, wouldn’t even dare to think about punishing An Jing. They were too consumed by fear now.

They were terrified—terrified that An Jing held grudges, that she wouldn’t just strip them of their official positions, but might even take their lives.

After all, back then, they had spoken rudely and offended An Jing, the Princess.

They had even expressed disdain for Xiao Changyi, Prince Yi.

Originally, Tong Nongzhi and Guo Nongzhi hadn’t worked at the same location. They were transferred to Xilin City a year ago. Now, upon seeing An Jing and Xiao Changyi and learning of their identities, both Tong Nongzhi and Guo Nongzhi were filled with alarm.

Their faces turned pale.

Their legs were trembling.

Clearly, they were indeed quite cowardly—and excessively afraid of death.

Afraid of being recognized by An Jing and Xiao Changyi, the moment they identified them, they both lowered their heads. In their minds, they kept repeating, ”You can’t see me, you can’t see me, you can’t see me...”

The agricultural officials were only there for show; no one expected them to provide any strategic input regarding the war. So, as Xiao Changyi passed by, some other officials followed him, but the agricultural officials were free to go home.

While the other agricultural officials indeed returned home, Tong Nongzhi and Guo Nongzhi, on the other hand, stood staring at each other. Both were still quite uneasy. Meanwhile, their hearts were filled with worry.

”Guo Nongzhi, could I have a moment of your time?” Tong Nongzhi took the initiative to speak.

”Brother Tong, no need to be so formal. I was thinking the same. Please, lead the way.”

When the two found a spot they deemed safe enough to speak without concern, Tong Nongzhi spoke frankly, ”Brother Guo, I’m worried. After all, we offended the Prince and Princess back then. If they’ve noticed us, I doubt they’ll let us off.”

”Brother Tong, I’ve been worried about this too,” Guo Nongzhi said, his face full of distress. ”Tell me, what should we do?”

”How could they turn out to be the Prince and Princess...” Tong Nongzhi also looked distressed.

”Tell me about it,” Guo Nongzhi sighed deeply. ”Why couldn’t they just govern as Prince and Princess? Why bother farming, only to mislead us into offending them?”

Tong Nongzhi let out a long sigh. ”If losing our official positions is all we suffer, so be it. We did offend these two prominent figures—we’ll accept the loss. But what I’m afraid of is losing our lives. Now that war is about to break out with Chilin, who knows? They might seize this opportunity to kill us and frame Chilin, leaving the Imperial Court unable to pursue the matter.”

If An Jing were here, she would surely say these two men suffered from delusions of persecution. Moreover, they were overestimating their significance.

”What are we going to do...?” Guo Nongzhi groaned, overcome by fear and worry, with no clue what to do.
