Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1386: Chapter 1387: Can Only Endure

Ye Zhi said, ”I know what I’m doing. I’ll just carry more bullets on me, just in case. I’ve been here for more than a year now and only used one bullet, and that was to shoot a bandit.”

”As long as you know what you’re doing.” An Jing felt reassured. Her comrade had been here for over a year and could use weapons passably, though she wasn’t as skilled in close combat. Still, against an average soldier, not an expert, she could likely manage to save her own life in a weapon fight.

But it’s the experts she feared encountering...

That’s why An Jing wholeheartedly supported Ye Zhi carrying a handgun for self-defense.

”Boss.” Ye Zhi suddenly scooted over next to An Jing with a mischievous grin and sat down, pressing closely against her.

An Jing thought Ye Zhi acting like this reminded her a bit of Gong Juechen, and she raised one eyebrow, ”What?”

”Let’s pull off something big. No, I mean *you* should pull off something big. I’ve been thinking—it’d be great if the Emperor of Chilin personally led the army against us from the start. Then, you could use your sniper rifle to take him out from a distance in one shot. That way, we wouldn’t have to drag this war out for so long, and you’d also avenge your adoptive father. Haha, isn’t it a brilliant idea?” As she spoke, Ye Zhi began laughing at her own words, breaking into an uncontrollable fit of giggles.

”You certainly dream big.” Looking at this side of Ye Zhi, An Jing couldn’t help but think that she resembled Gong Juechen even more. Could it be true what they say about ’being influenced by who you keep close’?

Ye Zhi pouted with slight dissatisfaction. ”You’re just going to brush me off with those seven words?”

An Jing replied, ”You *do* dream big. The war hasn’t even started yet, and you’re already imagining the enemy emperor personally leading the charge? That’s impossible. But, if there’s a chance to use your sniper rifle, I’ll take advantage of it.”

”Feel free to use it.” In Ye Zhi’s eyes, when it’s wartime, holding onto a sniper rifle without using it is as good as burying it in the ground.

Immediately, Ye Zhi added, ”If there’s anything you need me for, just let me know. My sniper skills aren’t any worse than yours.”

An Jing nodded. ”Alright.” After a pause, she said with some guilt, ”Actually, you didn’t have to come along for this war.”

Ye Zhi replied, ”Now you’re being too formal. What kind of relationship do we have? Besides, I don’t think I can go back—the way things are now, Xiyun is where I’ll live forever. Xiyun is my home, so in a way, I’m fighting for my home.”

An Jing didn’t say anything apologetic after that and instead asked, ”Did you put ointment on the chilblains on your hands and feet?”

”I’ve been putting it on every day before, but today I haven’t had a chance. I’ll put it on before bed later. Honestly, Gong Juechen’s ointment works pretty well, but these chilblains are like weeds—every time you think they’re gone, new ones pop up. I really hope this winter ends soon.”

An Jing sighed and said, ”Just endure it for a little longer. Once we get through this, it’ll all be fine. It’s already December—another month or so, and it shouldn’t be as cold anymore.”

”Got to endure it.” Ye Zhi let out a sigh of her own. ”Boss, if you don’t need me for anything else, I’ll head back now. The female soldiers’ tent still needs work; I’ll go help them out.”

”Alright, go ahead.”

When Ye Zhi left, Xiao Changyi finished applying the ointment on An Jing.

After applying the ointment, Xiao Changyi asked, ”Does your body feel sore? Should I give you a massage?”

An Jing shook her head and said, ”Not sore. Husband, I’m not tired at all, honestly. Riding a horse is much more comfortable than walking. It’s just these chilblains—they’re such a hassle. But, thank goodness it’s not winter all year round. Otherwise, it really would be unbearable.”

The truth was, the chilblains didn’t hurt, but they were warm and maddeningly itchy. If she didn’t force herself to resist, she would have already scratched them raw.
