Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 287: Chapter 248: The Familiar Scene Behind the Waterfall

Sure enough, there was no wall behind the waterfall, and he slipped right inside.

Ji Chaoyang, Silver King, and Keke had already entered when he picked up the purple-level crystal.

Silver King and Keke went through the waterfall, and Keke was soaking wet. The two beasts shook off the water at the entrance, splashing it all over Xu Xin’s face.

Xu Xin rubbed Keke’s wet head and stood up from the ground.

As he stood, he staggered and almost fell.

”...Iron?”

The ground was a smooth iron surface, very slippery when wet, causing Xu Xin to almost slip without noticing.

Behind him, soothing yet powerfully piercing white light penetrated through the thinner part of the waterfall, illuminating the entire room clearly.

”This room...” Xu Xin’s expression changed.

He had expected an underground cave like the Water Curtain Cave, but instead, it was an iron room!

The room was not large, only a few dozen square meters, but about five or six meters tall, with all six sides made entirely of iron.

It was like a lump of iron completely surrounded!

This structure was very familiar to him and brought back rather unpleasant memories.

The memory of being chased by the Red Mist, desperately climbing a ladder.

Since coming to this world, he had seen such an iron room only once, at the very bottom of the entrance tunnel to the underground world!

Back then, he had climbed down the long, rusty iron channel and finally entered a similar iron room!

At the time, there was a skeleton wearing adventurer’s clothing inside the iron room, carrying items brought over from Earth, with some Greek words engraved behind the skeleton, which he couldn’t understand.

”Eek!” Keke also shrieked and quickly climbed onto Xu Xin’s shoulder.

It too remembered the experience back then.

Back then, it had gone down to the underground world with Xu Xin and had been quite frightened by the giant monsters of the underground world!

Xu Xin patted Keke’s little head and instinctively looked at the cracks in the floor of the iron room.

Last time, it was from the cracks in the floor of this iron room that dense Red Mist spewed out, forcing Xu Xin to climb upward desperately, only narrowly escaping through the rusty iron channel and closing the iron gate.

Looking back, he was still somewhat shaken.

Thinking about this location...

Could it be that the Red Mist that suddenly filled the entire salt mine cave earlier came from the cracks in this room?

Xu Xin looked at the junctions between the floor and walls of the room, and indeed saw tiny black gaps!

Perhaps it really was as he imagined!

The backside of one wall of this room should be the salt mine cave!

Xu Xin looked at the four walls.

He crawled in from the waterfall through the lake; this was the door of the iron room, just like the door he pried open, only now the iron door was completely open.

The four walls appeared to have nothing special. The entire room was empty, the walls bare, looking like an iron sheet prison.

The previous room had a skeleton sitting in the corner; this room had nothing.

But Xu Xin suddenly became vigilant. He remembered back then in that iron room, this door was closed himself!

And Ji Chaoyang was already circling the iron room, observing every corner.

”How is it? Are there any special places?” Xu Xin asked.

”No,” Ji Chaoyang shook his head, ”there’s nothing in this room, not even inscriptions, all walls are flawlessly smooth.”

Hearing this, Xu Xin approached the iron wall opposite the door.

In terms of location, if one of these walls had cracked open in the salt mine cave earlier, it would be this wall.

Considering the earlier situation, the faint white light emanating from the cracked wall perfectly matched the environment of this room, and recalling the wind sound heard when escaping to the salt mine cave, it seemed like the sound of mist being sprayed from the floor gap of this iron room!

He was now almost certain that behind the cracked wall in the salt mine cave was this iron room!

But why would there be such an iron room behind the waterfall in a place like this resembling a paradise?

He explained his speculation to Ji Chaoyang.

”Do you think...” Xu Xin looked at the wall, ”if we break open this wall, we might return to the original location?”

”Maybe? There’s no exit nearby either, so it’s worth a try anyway. But first, let’s collect those resources outside.” Ji Chaoyang glanced at the waterfall and said.

”Yeah, makes sense. But this iron room is pretty much the same as last time,” Xu Xin pointed at the door by the waterfall, ”even the door style is identical.”

”Right.” Ji Chaoyang looked up at the top, ”This time we don’t have an escape route. If the door is closed and mist is released again, it wouldn’t be easy to handle.”

Ji Chaoyang’s experience was the same, narrowly escaping while the door closed and released Red Mist.

So both of them had some lingering fear of the combination of dense smelly Red Mist and closed rooms.

However, Xu Xin had a speculation.

If the door was closed and mist released...would the wall crack open? Would they be able to enter the salt mine cave?
