Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 255: Chapter 227: Keke Who Likes Playing with Balls

”Eek!” Xu Xin’s sudden action startled Keke, who let out a scream and jumped out from Li Wenxi’s embrace. The small creature nimbly bounced around, avoiding the blood spurting from the corpse, until the blood stopped gushing, remaining untouched by it, only then crawling back onto Xu Xin’s shoulder.

The sudden event left Li Wenxi and Qi Xuefei both stunned.

They did not expect Xu Xin, without a word, to suddenly swing the long halberd and kill Ma Hongyu, moreover, in the most visually shocking way.

Decapitation!

The head flew right off!

The headless corpse’s blood sprayed, splattering to some extent on the three nearby.

The head that had been severed rolled on the ground, coincidentally facing the three people, with eyes full of disbelief and resentment, dying with open eyes, as if staring fixedly at them.

Li Wenxi lightly wiped the bloodstains from her face with her hand.

”Ugh...”

Having previously supported Xu Xin in crushing Ma Hongyu’s other hand, she was the first to be unable to bear it, running to the treehouse, holding the treehouse’s trunk, and vomiting with a ”Wow” sound.

”Eek?” Keke tilted its little head on Xu Xin’s shoulder, looking at Li Wenxi, then at the headless corpse lying limp on the ground, somewhat puzzled by Li Wenxi’s intense reaction.

To it, human corpses and animal corpses were indistinguishable, so Keke had no reaction. To it, it was merely Xu Xin suddenly killing an animal, which was commonplace for Keke, who always stayed by Xu Xin’s side.

Qi Xuefei didn’t react as violently as Li Wenxi; she merely stared blankly at the corpse on the ground.

Decapitation indeed renders many people physiologically unable to accept it, but she, being a medical doctor, had seen worse, dissecting countless corpses of men, women, young and old, and studying various visceral organs one by one. Losing a head was nothing.

Not to mention medical doctors, even medical undergraduates wouldn’t feel nauseous or fearful from a human corpse. Most medical students, once accustomed, could eat steamed meat buns in the dissecting room without care.

Yet, even she was stunned by Xu Xin’s sudden action.

Killing and dissecting a corpse are two entirely different matters.

”You...” She lifted her head to look at Xu Xin, trembling in her gaze, ”Why did you... suddenly kill him... I... I only said...”

”Well, didn’t you say you wanted his treehouse, not him? Without the treehouse, he couldn’t survive, so it’s better to just kill him,” Xu Xin slightly calmed the pounding of his heart, glancing at Li Wenxi, who was vomiting under the treehouse, and smiled at Qi Xuefei.

This should count as his first kill. The last time he killed was Lou Fei’Er, but she revived immediately, which means not killing.

This was his first actual killing, and it was a decapitation, which slightly challenged even him who had hunted numerous beasts.

To be honest, he didn’t intend to decapitate, merely to slit the throat. But his current strength, coupled with the purple-grade steel long halberd being overly sharp, didn’t let him even feel any resistance, and the head flew off, startling him.

However, killing a survivor with a single halberd, the absorbed life force, is so much...

The warm stream from the halberd directly restored both his physical and spiritual power to their peak.

But this doesn’t indicate survivors are special. When he created this halberd, wild animals around the treehouse had vanished and he hadn’t used it to kill other animals, hence no comparison.

”I...” Qi Xuefei upon hearing Xu Xin’s words, shivered, and blankly stared at the corpse on the ground, ”I just...”

Xu Xin glanced at Li Wenxi retching beside the treehouse, then smiled at Qi Xuefei, ”So, this person can be considered as someone you and I killed together.”

Qi Xuefei abruptly lifted her head to look at him, her blank gaze gradually returned to normal. She stared at Xu Xin, opened her mouth, and ultimately let out a bitter smile, ”You did it on purpose, you knew I wouldn’t let him enter my sanctuary, and deliberately after getting my answer, you decided to kill him right?”

”So, Sister Xuefei,” Xu Xin said seriously, ”you can count as having killed someone in this world. In the future, do not show mercy to enemies, as the severe consequences at the end would be upon you!”

Qi Xuefei was the most precious healer in this world. Xu Xin didn’t want her to encounter issues due to unwillingness to kill or showing leniency, which led him to act so just now.

Qi Xuefei looked at him, wanting to say something but couldn’t voice it. Eventually, she turned away with annoyance, ”I am older than you all by several years; I know these things very well.”

”But just now... you wanted to treat him, right?” Xu Xin pressed further, not wanting Qi Xuefei to foolishly treat enemies in the future, ”You kept looking at him with sympathetic eyes; if I hadn’t killed him, you surely would have treated him, right?”

”I...” Qi Xuefei tried to refute, but couldn’t articulate it because that’s indeed what she thought.

Finally, she sighed, unwillingly chuckling, ”In the future, such combat killing, territorial expansion matters, I will not participate. I’ll stay behind providing medicine and treatment for you guys, fighting and killing do not suit me.”

”Special situations will always occur,” Xu Xin glanced at Li Wenxi again, speaking to Qi Xuefei, ”when the time comes, Sister Xuefei, just don’t show mercy.”

”Alright, I know,” Qi Xuefei rolled her eyes at Xu Xin, noting his shifting gaze, and said irritably, ”You better go check on Wenxi, you’ve looked over there how many times already, wanting to give me psychological counseling while still keeping an eye on your little girlfriend.”

Xu Xin chuckled and quickly ran to the treehouse.

Li Wenxi had already vomited all she could, tears streaming down her face as she clung to the tree trunk, dry-heaving incessantly.

”How are you feeling?” Xu Xin gently patted Li Wenxi’s back, ”Feeling any better? It’s my fault, for acting so suddenly.”

”Boo...” Keke looked at her worriedly, although it didn’t understand why she was like this.

Li Wenxi gently shook her head, her voice hoarse, ”No...it’s my poor tolerance. I’ve killed so many beasts before, yet I’m still like this...but it’s my first time witnessing a killing...”

Once again, in her mind, she recalled the scene of that head flying through the air, the bloodied expression of the decapitated head on the ground, and she dry-heaved again with a sound.

Xu Xin handed her a bottle of water, and she immediately took two gulps, rinsed her mouth, and spat it out, her complexion looking slightly better.

”Alright, I’m okay now.” Xu Xin hugged Li Wenxi, gently patting her back.

With Xu Xin holding her, Li Wenxi’s slightly trembling body gradually calmed down.

”Boo...” Keke also used its little paw to gently pat Li Wenxi’s head.

Finally calming down, Li Wenxi raised her head from Xu Xin’s embrace, lightly punched Xu Xin with her fist, and complained, ”Couldn’t you warn before killing? You really startled me, I wasn’t prepared at all!”

Not just you being startled, I even startled myself. Xu Xin thought to himself, unable to hold back a laugh.

”You’re laughing! You, this guy, your way of killing is too brutal! It’s my first time seeing someone killed! First time! You perform a beheading! That’s terrifying!” Li Wenxi said angrily.

She had been afraid to look towards the corpse, yet couldn’t help but glance over twice, quickly retracting her gaze, then secretly stole another glance, and pulled away again, her cautious manner made Xu Xin want to laugh.

”Today was my first time killing too, it was because I didn’t know my own strength, so I just...” Xu Xin spread his hands, indicating he was a novice, innocent.

”Wow...you definitely have an extraordinary talent in this area...” Li Wenxi marveled.

At this point, Qi Xuefei saw that Li Wenxi’s mood had stabilized, walked over with a smile, ”Did Xu Xin manage to calm you down?”

Seeing Qi Xuefei coming over, Li Wenxi’s face turned red, hurriedly pushed Xu Xin away, and said somewhat embarrassed, ”Alright, alright, I’m okay now, oh I lost my face, but Sister Xuefei, why didn’t you have any reaction at all? Have you killed someone too?”

Li Wenxi couldn’t quite imagine Qi Xuefei killing people.

”I’ve never killed anyone,” Qi Xuefei shook her head, then raised her hand as if holding a dissection surgical scalpel, ”Have you forgotten what I do? I’m already used to it.”

”Ah!” Li Wenxi suddenly remembered, then curiously asked, ”Can all medical students dissect without batting an eyelid?”

”Yes, but everyone has a first time,” Qi Xuefei recalled how chaotic it was during her first dissection class way back in undergraduate, and how she didn’t eat meat for a week, couldn’t help but smile, ”Some people get nauseous dissecting a frog, you’re already doing well.”

”Hehe, really?” Li Wenxi sheepishly touched her head.

Xu Xin started examining Ma Hongyu’s tree house.

After Ma Hongyu’s death, the tree canopy of this tree house began to yellow visibly, although not completely like falling leaves, it was no longer its former lush green, noticeably, it was becoming a dying tree.

Xu Xin touched the tree trunk of the tree house.

[Dying low tree house (green): A tree house that has lost its owner. A tree house that has lost its owner will die dried up in 24 hours, remaining survival time: 23 hours and 51 minutes.]

Indeed, this tree house was already a dying tree house. He needed to get inside the tree house within 24 hours, chisel open the center of the tree house floor, dig out the core at the base of the tree house trunk, and then extract the tree house seed.

Only in this way, could he obtain all the resources of a tree house.

But how was he supposed to get inside this tree house?

He wasn’t the owner of the tree house, unable to pull himself inside.

Even if it’s a low tree house, the window on the first floor is over four meters high, if it were a wall he could climb up, but underneath the tree canopy, there’s no foothold, so going in from the window was out of the question, he couldn’t jump four meters on the spot.

It seemed, he could only use explosive crossbow bolts to blow open the floor under the tree house, then climb in via the tree trunk. Just like he entered that ruined tree house before.

”Ah! Keke, what are you doing!” Li Wenxi suddenly screamed, and ran outside.

What happened?!

Xu Xin only then reacted, Keke on his shoulder, had unbeknownst to him, jumped down.

As he looked over, he was filled with speechless disbelief.

This little guy, wanting to use the head as a ball again!
