Chapter 4: Chapter 2: Rebirth in the Age of Mecha

Every woman who travels across time has a dream of being the main character, and she was no exception. Unfortunately, the menopausal lady quickly showed her the reality. Main character? Are you kidding me! Go on and dream!

After dying in her first life, she transmigrated to a strange future world, unfamiliar surroundings, unfamiliar people. She worked hard to adapt to this era, hoping to live well here. But how was the reality?

Reflecting on her second life’s experience, she felt like she could write a slapstick autobiography filled with all sorts of sufferings! To have survived to this point was quite rare indeed.

Thinking after her transmigration she would have a happy family, she discovered she was doomed to a life of misfortune—father died at three, mother died at six, the entire family died at nine! Thinking she could have a loyal childhood sweetheart to marry upon coming of age, only to find after dangerously surviving a mission that her once innocent love turned out to be married to another, and their kids could run errands!

Thinking she failed in romance but succeeded in career, only to be inexplicably framed for betrayal, with all hard-earned glory erased in an instant, becoming a public disgrace. Thinking her life was hopeless, only to find it was just a delay tactic from above, sending her on an undercover mission... But unfortunately, soon after completing it, her superiors didn’t have time to clear her name, an assassination happened, they died, cementing her traitor reputation.

She thought her first forty years were already a miserable benchmark, deserving a book titled ”How Misery is Made”! But what happened after forty taught her those years were merely a prelude; the real text of ”How Misery is Made” came after! Humanity could no longer stop the rise of the misery index!

Thinking her life had ups and downs but wasn’t in vain, only to realize... she had transmigrated into a holographic online game world! The whole world was merely disposable data! Seeing those players—the so-called children of gods playing happily, Su Jiameng felt as if her cheeks were slapped hard several times! The pain was as unbearable as a painful strike!

Everything was data, everything was fake... If that’s the case, what was all the deadly battles fought against the Insect Race trash, destroying her looks, leaving permanent scars, even losing a whole leg and half a body in dangerous times... Comrades falling one by one in front of her... What were these? Fake?

With the posture of barely clinging to life, bearing the beliefs of those who love the Alliance, love peace, and life, she unwittingly became a huge joke. Her mental state was poor then, relying on hunting players to quell her intense emotions. After all, those players were ”children of gods,” immortal in the eyes of NPCs.

To them, death was just losing experience and leveling down...

Because her emotional fluctuations were intense, and this body was extremely weak, she was soon engulfed by overwhelming darkness.

In her dreams, nightmares continued, the most frequent scenes being herself piloting a mecha, leading her comrades in fierce battles against the Insect Race. The mighty custom mecha’s wear-and-tear increased, and the Energy Cannon fired again and again, leaving behind a field of insect corpses.

But the hateful insects seemed endless, densely occupying the entire planet. Cleaning a part was immediately covered by new insects, the joints of the mecha were fouled with insect corpses and gross mucus...

She tried her best to wipe out the bugs, but the enemy numbers were so vast, completely cleaning them was impossible, watching helplessly as her subordinates executing cleanup tasks fell one by one, mecha energy ran out, getting overwhelmed by insects, the cockpit shattered, even the last cries disappearing quickly...

This was the biggest nightmare she’s ever had, the entire force wiped out during that mission, with only her waiting for rescue, nearly eaten half alive by insects... The joke was, despite all this, she survived...

After barely waking up from the aftermath of the nightmare, she found herself still in the bathroom, drenched in cold sweat.

The only difference was, oddly, there were two strange eggs beside her...

She stared in a daze at the two eggs, slightly smaller than basketballs, unsure if they were edible because they looked peculiar, decorated with identical azure patterns, not oval like usual eggs, but perfectly spherical, slightly smaller than basketballs... Could they be poisonous?

Raising a hand to touch the egg shells, feeling rough, resembling sandpaper rather than smooth as a mirror. Studying the patterns on the shell... She felt she’d seen this somewhere, familiar patterns, but her brain was too exhausted to recall.

She also didn’t know how long this body had gone without food, her stomach so hungry it couldn’t scream. Among multiple external forces, her vision was very blurry, but in the instinctual desire to survive, she fixed her gaze on the two eggs...

Even though she didn’t know if they were poisonous, she was really hungry now... really wanted to eat...

Just as she was considering whether to eat the eggs, the doorbell rang, pulling her muddled consciousness back somewhat. Thinking it might be a neighbor or her body’s relatives visiting, she gritted her teeth until her mouth was filled with a rusty taste, forcing herself to wake up a little. Utilizing her weakened telekinesis, she transformed it into puppet threads to manipulate her limbs to move...
