Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1650: Chapter 228: The Misguided Mage Danboros

The atmosphere on the cliff was a bit eerie... Although the goal was achieved, the Undead Tribe members who understood what Lucimar did all had strange expressions.

Even though they had long known from ’Snow Cloud Peak’ that the relationship between this mother and son wasn’t as affectionate as it seemed, such a wild move of backstabbing was still something they weren’t quite used to.

As for the mages from other families, although they didn’t understand the deep meaning behind those words, they could still sense the strange atmosphere... For mages at a certain level, delaying aging is a piece of cake.

Even if Lucimar’s mother wasn’t that young, she wasn’t exactly a grandma, was she?

A mature beauty can still be talked about.

The mages hadn’t really imagined that lady as an old granny with white hair, using a magic wand as a cane, but they did place her on the end of being a rather mature woman.

They didn’t think there was anything wrong with thinking this way and even felt they were thoughtful because with Great Sage Ismael there, that lady surely wouldn’t lack high-level potions.

Perhaps she even consumed fruits from the Forest of the Elves that could maintain her youthful appearance... well... what they got should be fine, right?

The Half-Elves long controlled by the Silk Spiders in the Forest of the Elves should know better.

The mages discarded the disgusting thought since their families didn’t miss out either... After that incident happened, the Mage Families knew far better than those land nobles about the horrors of the Mutated Silk Spiders, almost scanning every inch.

Anyway, the Crystal Fruits they had, those with problems were bought by younger members outside, and those procured in the family’s name basically had no issues.

Including silk.

Therefore, the mages exactly understood why the World Master was so focused on the existence of Mutated Silk Spiders, going as far as to create Moon Clan and Undead Tribe one after another... In fact, the Moon Clan wasn’t entirely unusable since their Royal Family conveniently had a foolish King!

However, the Undead Tribe brought by Aesces proved much more difficult to deal with.

No tactics were effective.

Unlike the Moon Clan, although greedy and chaotic, with deities and Great Sages managing them, they had many exploitable areas... The direction Great Sage Ismael could overlook would naturally be the best spot to strike.

Mages and nobles didn’t need anyone to remind them where opportunities lay: battling the Ismael Family for hundreds or possibly thousands of years, who wouldn’t know a loophole or two!

Especially since Lucimar’s birth, the Ismael Family has long been akin to a sieve.

No one acts because they don’t want to provoke a strong entity blessed by the World Master over minor matters... Damn fate’s blessing; it’s annoying sometimes.

But this time, everyone understood one thing: their World Master wasn’t omniscient or omnipotent either.

As long as they acted in enough secrecy, and with long-term planning spanning thousands or even tens of thousands of years... never mind, that’s none of us mortals’ business.

Gaining enough benefits and then considering doing more things for posterity is fine, but sacrificing one’s interests just for some family’s future is madness.

Everyone’s a rational person, so first consider oneself... For instance, what method could make Great Sage Ismael, who is about to ascend to the upper world, abandon his family and choose justice?

Being a human, one shouldn’t be too selfish!

If he can’t be a little fair, then we can only help him out... So, what exactly did Lucimar mean with his words?

Is there something wrong with that lady from the ice?

If excessively pursuing beauty... could it be that the lady secretly bought some mysterious products from the Forest of the Elves and ended up tricked?

Mages, who never thought Aesces would create such a big loophole even around their patrons, completely misunderstood.

No wonder, given Aesces’s stringent management spanning tens of thousands of years, even the top archmages of this world couldn’t fathom making such a grave mistake.

So within their hearts, they all had their views on why Lucimar distanced himself from the mainstream society and moved to such a remote seaside town in Basia after leaving the Magic Tower:

Could it be that the lady, despite being vocally adored by Great Sage Ismael, felt particularly conscious of her looks because Ismael had numerous illegitimate descendants?

Then, due to such an extreme mindset and secretly buying Elf Fruits... The Forest of the Elves is famous for its Crystal Fruit, but the various fruits that help maintain vitality and delay aging are also popular, coupled with the influence of silk products, thus getting stuck on that?

Noblewomen, added with the status of an archmage, can become terrifyingly obsessed once fixated... Just look at Ellie from the Stelter Family!

Aesces’s army has so many individuals capable of using Crystalline Weapons or even becoming Alchemists because of their methods of prompting premature advancement.

No one thought her change was related to being rejected by that Great Sage, but rather that she might have taken a shortcut when becoming a mage, leading to inadequate defensive power of her mental sea and consequently unable to withstand minor setbacks.

The Stelter Family, part of the army system, probably believed that such fast-track methods would only end the path to becoming a Great Sage... and Ellie’s original qualifications never reached that stage anyway.

Unfortunately, many subtle pieces of information are incomprehensible to outsiders.

Relying on the energy array to become a mage before the age of twenty is indeed the only path using auxiliary means to promote to level 10. Of course, it still has some damage for promoting to level 15.

Therefore, the Stelter Family probably saw many mages from the Royal Family in the army using such methods to control large crystalline energy equipment and thought they could do the same.

However, doing so requires a high level of spiritual power and willpower.

Those from the Royal Family who have been promoted using this method are sent into the mage system in the military camp, seldom exposed to the temptations of romance and power outside.

Usually, they need to consume large quantities of food and potions that strengthen and solidify spiritual power, ensuring their mental sea is replenished before advancing to the next ring.

Thus, most mages doing this will absolutely not promote again within five years of their initial promotion.

Although this method is somewhat risky, for families with deep foundations, cultivating a talented child is not impossible.

Mages initially didn’t think Ellie was one of those promoted mages, even though she unexpectedly promoted right after reaching adulthood... Given her aptitude, she could become an official mage by thirty, according to the sixth level mage who taught Ellie back then.

Sometimes, though, with good luck, it’s not impossible, even if missing a bit of related knowledge, it can be made up at the mage stage.

However, from all sorts of things erupting within just this year in Basia City, it’s clear that Ellie surely didn’t rely on her own ability for mage promotion.

So, she eventually felt using some unconventional means to advance again wasn’t a problem.

She could make up for it later on.

But, deviating by 15 degrees requires taking a big turn to return to the right path, deviating by 15 degrees followed by another 150 degrees... who knows where that leads?

Either Hell or Abyss, certainly not the human world.

Hill didn’t understand these things, so he was puzzled by Ellie’s inexplicable change, thinking the girl probably inherently had some character issues, taking the wrong path for not getting what she wanted.

But the Mage Danboros were perfectly clear.

Speaking of which, the Stelter Family is definitely favored by fate, everything congregates at once, always encountering... Even if that Ellie didn’t go wrong because of so-called love, she might suddenly face downfall due to other reasons.

Luck, truly isn’t given for free, the price can be quite high.

If not controlled, it will backlash.

The Stelter Family isn’t completely annihilated like the Ismael Family, only leaving a Great Sage absorbing all the fate thriving energetically because they weren’t meant to perish, coincidentally encountering world turmoil, fate trajectory deviating.

Otherwise, hm~ The strange unexplained deaths of the Ismael Family before, either battlefield accidental death or tragically fallen by political rivals’ hands... Honestly, the fierce struggle between Danboro nobility and mages has been truly seen to reach exterminating levels... the predecessors probably waiting under for the Stelter Family!

Ditte, Ellie, and Lind, these three children have such perfect personalities setup... Plus Prince Alexis who was engaged to Ellie, the covetous former Countess Stelter family... what a beautiful family!

Mages thinking to this point, looked with peculiar eyes at the melancholic Lucimar: Would this child’s mother be the backlash from Great Sage Ismael?

Could the Ismael Family still be utilized?

No... wait, even if internal strife occurred in their family leading to mutual destruction, it shouldn’t affect Great Sage Ismael!

Then, what they should do now is not arbitrary provocation.

What if the Great Sage blamed everything happening to the Ismael Family on them?

How aggrieved they would be!

They haven’t done anything yet!

Mages exchanged opinions with looks and deft hand gestures, ultimately deciding to temporarily abandon subtle actions toward Lucimar.

Reluctantly glanced at the beauty comforted in Hard Wind’s arms, mages gradually bid farewell and left.

”Ah... really...” Susu said helplessly, ”Originally thought to show everyone our Undead Tribe’s fighting style!

How did it happen like this!

Forget it.

Mr. Lucimar, our commander is not far away from here, do you intend to speak with him later?

Or now...”

”Now.”
