Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1640: Chapter 218: Where Are the Other Greek Gods?

Ellie realized that her counterattack only incited the Endless Vines to thrash about before she vanished from the battlefield.

’Cunlü’ let out a sigh of relief.

Even though they seemed relaxed, with such a small group facing a minor boss, it was really all thanks to her, the High Priest, holding the line.

She had relied on all sorts of methods, like flipping her hair and covering her mouth to chuckle, to discreetly use several potions... including the Recovery Flower gifted by Hill.

If Ellie had continued for half an hour more, those fragile swordsmen would have collapsed for real.

After all, even though the damage from those fire arrows wasn’t much, there were just so many of them!

The most critical issue was that this group in leather armor really couldn’t take a hit... If it weren’t for ’Qiuqiu’s’ Defensive Magic Array, they probably would have perished faster than those in cloth armor jobs. And crucially, there’s no way to defend against it!

It was truly exhausting for her.

’Cunlü’ slowly slid off ’Hard Wind,’ helping him clean up the battlefield, and incidentally healing the Sharkmen within the Endless Vines who had blocked the wind... a piece of meat, a quick healing spell.

”Eh?” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ stared at the tablet, then immediately used the projection function to enlarge Ellie and carefully examine her from all angles.

He had a feeling that Ellie didn’t retreat voluntarily.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ frowned, pondering: If he couldn’t figure it out through direct confrontation this time, next time he might have to find a way to launch a sneak attack on Ellie from behind.

Then he received the forwarded video from ’Hard Wind.’

According to ’Hard Wind,’ that backstab-loving ’Nie Xia’ai’ was quite famous on niche video forums... Of course, don’t get the wrong idea, he’s the type who plays backstab assassins in every game he tries.

Although this game’s official stance suggests otherwise, and most deities seemingly aren’t keen on providing skills to the Undead Tribe of this type, if one really wanted to play, cozying up to Shaer would absolutely be fine.

Even though Shaer tried hard to make the divine arts she granted to Undead Tribe believers more open, enabling these believers to become direct acting assassins, was already her greatest effort.

Mr. ’Nie Xia’ai’ was a standout among these niche types... Rumor had it, he put all his points into agility, relied solely on weapons for killing power, and because his leather armor had almost no defensive power, he could only opt for the apprentice leather armor with the least stamina requirements.

Yet in that category, he’s extremely popular, to the point where each of his backstab videos has countless repeat viewers.

’Nie Xia’ai’ didn’t expect that solely through the clicks from these people, he could earn enough to upgrade his weapons, so any backstab performance with some flair, he’d directly record himself... Hence, he had specially purchased small recording devices on his forehead and chest.

’Hard Wind,’ after finding out how terrifyingly skilled that guy was with backstabs, belatedly searched for his name on the forums.

Then, naturally, he saw Mr. ’Nie Xia’ai’s’ latest work: ”The Sexy Lady Boss’s Close-Combat Assassin.”

Although he exchanged a few thoughts on the title with ’Cunlü,’ ’Hard Wind’ still sought out the freshly resurrected ’Nie Xia’ai’ for the unedited original footage... starting from when he was lurking on the cliff behind Ellie.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ wanted them to take another shot at Ellie, which ’Hard Wind’ clearly understood, so he forwarded the footage to him, along with sharing the forum.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ wanted to watch that particularly enticing titled edit but, unfortunately, he was currently on a mission.

Sighing, he smartly bookmarked the ’Nie Xia’ai’ program, then started seriously observing Ellie’s various performances in the battle.

He simultaneously set up four projections and even merged these four projections together.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ finally noticed a clue.

On Ellie’s back, at the scapula, there was a blue line... like a wind compressed a hundredfold.

This must be the Wind Elemental Creature that Ellie assimilated back then.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ strangely took a few more glances... Ellie was truly foolish!

That wind elemental seemed embedded in her body, rather than integrated within it.

The so-called elemental body... This is more akin to the Sorcerer’s soul embodiment, isn’t it?

Even though both are soul bodies, with the ability to form an avatar-like being relying on external elemental energy, the differences are massive... After elementalization, soul energy remains the same; one must independently, like an elemental creature, devour energy to advance.

And the elemental energy is actually stored inside their souls’ elemental crystal cores, so if it were a normal elemental body, Ellie’s dispersed energy that comprised her body would be retracted to the core.

Nothing substantial gets consumed, at most wasting some energy... For elemental creatures, this counts for nothing.

But after evil energy transformation, revival every time requires consuming her soul power to convene external energy to form a body!

It means... that Wind Elemental Creature on her back merely acts as an energy pool.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ straightened up, enlarged Ellie’s face, then observed from the forehead down bit by bit.

Finally, his gaze fixed on those eyes.

Ellie’s eyes, green to the point of appearing blue, reminiscent of coconut water, had something odd around the pupils.

Unfortunately, video is still video, and though refined, that faintly discernible feeling was still lacking.

However, the next time Ellie shows up, it should confirm it... Moreover, they can now follow the standard of a sorcerer to strategize against Ellie and her suspected Gaia incarnate support.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ tilted his head and smiled.

Sorcerers are indeed troublesome, especially those controlled by devils.

Yet, the Undead Tribe is their natural foe... all soul-targeting skills, the Undead Tribe are immune to.

Both Hellfire and Devil’s Flame are feared because they ignite not just the body but the soul as well.

No wonder Ellie, and even Lucimar’s mother, acted so fretful, with Eosca not bringing as much harm to the Undead Tribe.

They should currently be clueless on how to deal with the Undead Tribe.

Still, ’Snow Cloud Peak’ felt confused... Did Gaia head straight to hell after leaving the Greek pantheon?

Why did she seem more like a Demon Lord than the Earth Mother Goddess?

What happened to the Greek Gods post leaving their origins?

He couldn’t resist looking up at the sky... Though unseen, Mark City should be lingering on the outskirts of Aesces.

Speaking of, why would the proud Poseidon marry off such a mighty daughter to that dog-headed god of the Mulholland Pantheon?

Set was indeed formidable; harboring evil and the force of death, under some circumstances, he could contend with the Divine King of Mulholland.

But, let’s say... Toril Gods, even Ambori and Marla would not fear him.

Marla might even dare to attempt devouring him.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ tapped his tablet, deciding to go and have chats with his old friends... Didn’t Edna recently tangle with the God of Knowledge, trying to archive all his books in her Great Library?

Last time when he chatted with the Elder, she mentioned it was happening soon.

Perfect timing.

Though the game’s stories related to deities and myths derive from real mythological narratives, they’ve generally been reworked... some events match perfectly, while others differ vastly.

The sole praise might be in the logical coherence.

Therefore, since arriving at Toril, his old pals got nearly obsessed, declaring they must fully uncover the jumbled tales and create an accurate chronological record of deities.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ surely wouldn’t obstruct their obsession... but he could slightly steer their research direction.

For instance, how did the Greek Gods go from Olympia to their present state... either descending into hell, lurking in the Abyss, or existing as second-class residents in foreign worlds?

Then there’s that Goddess of Love and Beauty... Definitely need ’Old Age Striking King’ to get from Edna, or rather from Jacob, how he dug out Aphrodite from what obscure corner.

That old man’s favorite technique involved not having a way forward nor back, yet being unwilling to let go of an attached soul.

So, was Aphrodite in that state too, neither considered a deity nor willing to become a denizen of hell, hence choosing to gamble alongside him?

Though she ended with her soul dissipating, at least it wasn’t turned into a devil’s plaything.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ rubbed his forehead... he witnessed many jokes concerning the god systems while on Toril; Poseidon’s name surfaced occasionally, given the mention of the Lady of Pain and her adversaries.

But news of Zeus and his brother Hades? None at all... Usually, Zeus’s presence wouldn’t be this negligible!

He was so... fond of flaunting his masculinity, how could he have no entanglements with the many charming goddesses of Toril?
