Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1060: Chapter 854: Vila Is a Little More Clear-Headed

So the otherworld God Servant of Amannata could only face ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ with an indescribable expression.

The Undead Tribe cheerfully put Vila aside… the Little Fairy Queen only hired them as bodyguards, but couldn’t control their side businesses outside of work.

In a world like Toril, only fanatics who give their whole being to the deities and slaves without autonomy cannot dispose of their private property.

Even deities cannot dispose of the property of other deities’ followers, let alone the Little Fairy Queen, who is just a demigod.

Of course, whether it’s the laws of Toril or the visible rules in operation, they’re always there for anyone to use… but you need the ability to speak up.

Like the Undead Tribe at this moment, no matter how powerful Amannata is, he couldn’t seal all their mouths, not to mention he still can’t seal them.

Even if Amannata sought trouble with the Undead Tribe afterward, he wouldn’t dare to pull any tricks now… the Toril Gods are eager for any reason to make him sleep for another few hundred thousand years!

As the Sun God, to end up so universally despised, Amannata is quite a remarkable exception.

The Undead Tribe likely thought the God Servants sent by Amannata were trying to freeload resources from them, each looking displeased, saying things like, ‘Winged birdmen dream of good things,’ ‘Just because they’re fair-skinned, they think they can take for free, better send a devil,’ ‘Is the Sun God so poor he’s begging?’ popping up constantly.

Someone already wanted to pluck all the feathers from the God Servants’ wings… the Undead Tribe has always wanted to know if these seemingly white light wings can be plucked like chicken wings.

Hearing the disrespect towards their main God, the enraged otherworld God Servants almost set their white hair on fire, they raised their scepters, ready to duel with the Undead Tribe to the death.

But unfortunately, the fight didn’t happen.

The Amanata’s Holy Grail soon dispatched two more God Servants who brought dozens of Ferun Great Land’s universal trade gold bars… enough to feed 100,000 people for a week at most.

‘Snow Cloud Peak’ looked surprised at the two newly arrived God Servants: “Is that all you’re buying? This route won’t last long for you, right?”

The God Servants hovered mid-air, faces written with lofty compassion, but their words were down-to-earth: “Our Lord has yet to return to the divine position, most temples remain sealed, and the Cup of Amannata doesn’t have much wealth at hand.

Although it’s a bit embarrassing, we hope you can offer a discount, you wouldn’t sell such a large amount of food at retail price, would you?”

“Tsk~ selling your food at retail price already makes me a great Saint, okay? Enough to make Tyr smile at me,” said ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ unceremoniously, “During war, not inflating the prices, not adulterating the goods, how many people like me can Toril find?

But Vila mentioned he had some dealings with the Temple of Amannata before, so I’ll give you a 5% discount, you wouldn’t mind it’s too little, right?

If it were Tethyr and Anmur, if they didn’t sell it to you at double, it would probably be quadruple.”

Hill silently watched as the Old Snow Dog used rounds of arguments to leave the God Servants of Amannata dumbfounded.

They had forgotten what their goal was, directly dragging a train of connected wooden flatbed carriages… filled with wheat and rye at a 5% discount from Ferun’s market food prices… floating away dazed.

Hill really didn’t expect that the Undead Tribe wouldn’t even take out a few spatial bags, but instead hollowed out the giant trunk of the Shadow Crown Tree to make flat cars and then used spells to lighten the weight of the food… Otherwise, those God Servants wouldn’t have found it so easy to carry, as there were dozens of them!

Speaking of which, even slightly larger spatial bags would probably only be worth about 10 gold among the Undead Tribe, normally they wouldn’t be this stingy… Though it’s unclear why it seems they really dislike Amanata.

Hill suspected they were directing their dislike of some people from Karinsan onto the Sun God Temple… probably they thought Karinsan’s traditions had something to do with their sun god worship.

But these wooden carts would be quite useful to the commoners of Manshaka… Once these God Servants send the food back, these carriages would likely be discarded, after all, apart from making some ropes, the Shadow Crown Tree is mainly used as firewood.

But for the commoners whose lives aren’t so good, they can at least boil some fish soup, go to the beach to catch some clams they’ll be fine.

Manshaka is located on a corner by the sea, rich in seafood… but with so many fish, it’s not easy to fill the stomachs of tens of thousands of people, let alone when most have to defend the city walls against divine beasts!

Besides, letting those who fight for them gnaw on salted fish every day, Hill estimates that Manshaka wouldn’t last even half a month… once the professionals of Toril reach an intermediate level, they won’t be so easy to talk to.

Hill sighed, looking at the giant screen, where Vila was leaning against the window watching the commotion outside, unable to hold back and pinched her brows.

This Little Flower Fairy had clearly suffered a huge blow and was mumbling to herself: “The followers of Amannata, only have a few dozen gold bars? How is it possible?”

She practically screamed: “How can the Sun God Temple be so poor! They used to build the temple walls out of gold!”

“Didn’t they say their temple remains sealed, and they can’t find it?” the ‘Young Master’ gently consoled the little fairy looking utterly devastated, “Their money shortage is just temporary… plus Old Dog gave them a discount, right?”

Vila looked desolately at her Undead Tribe friends, utterly hopelessly said: “My feelings tell me, for the sake of old friendships, I should lend a helping hand, at least buy them a bit of food.”

“But my rational mind tells me…my wallet is going to be empty! If I really do this, I’ll be the only bankrupt Little Fairy Queen in Toril’s history!”

The ‘Young Master’ said confusedly, “What exactly do you owe Amanata? Why does a poor ghost always want to help out the rich tycoon?

Isn’t their temple just temporarily short on funds? Plenty of people will offer them a financial turnover for future benefits.

It’s just a give-and-take situation between them, er, I mean, you have no need to worry about it!

You, a laborer, still wanna show charity to someone with a mine? Thinking too much, huh?”

Vila pounded her little head hard against the crystal window: “Ahhh! But I always feel something is not right! It feels wrong not to dish out some money!

This is so abnormal! How could I possibly be such a generous person?

I wouldn’t even give Hill anything for free!”

“I know that! Aren’t you busy every morning brewing flower honey to sell to Hill?” The ‘Young Master’ said straightforwardly. “Otherwise, why would I say you’re just working? Even if you only sell what you make to one person, you’re still working.

Just like the boss at my dad’s company, he only listens to my dad, and although his salary and bonuses are higher than other company bosses, when it comes down to it, he’s still working.

There’s a big difference between selling labor and buying labor.”

Vila said in a mournful tone, “I… I owe a life to Amanata’s Holy Grail; during the most dangerous time, it flew me to a safe place! And later, we lived together for tens of thousands of years!”

The Little Fairy flew wildly in the air, tracing patterns one after another: “I understand now! This is nature telling me that to become a true Little Fairy Queen, I can’t owe others!”

The ‘Young Master’ with a face full of confusion said, “Then wouldn’t Hill be the one you owe the most?”

“How can Hill be the same?” Vila suddenly charged at the ‘Young Master’s face, saying one word at a time, “Hill is the Child of Nature! It’s only right for a fairy born from nature to ask him for help!

What’s this talk of owing between us?

Just like Oberon, it’s normal for him to do anything for me!

Of course, I would also be willing to sacrifice for them!”

Then she placed her hands on her hips and said, “But not for Amanata. I have to repay the favor before he resurrects.”

Vila glanced at the ‘Young Master’, rubbed her little hands together, and asked, “So, how much would the food they sold to the Sub Temple of Amanata today cost if I want a maximum discount? Dear Young Master, my best friend, you will help me, right?”

The ‘Young Master’ looked at Vila with a face full of displeasure: “Don’t mimic me. I thought I was deep-fried in oil right there!”

Vila looked at her friend confusedly: “What’s wrong with talking like this? When you say it to me, I’m very happy! I see you also seem very excited when you say it.”

“Ah, right!” the ‘Young Master’ said while flipping through his tablet to find someone, “You feel happy hearing it, others feel disgusted, and I feel even happier saying it.”

Hill felt like he saw the secretary behind the ‘Young Master’ pull out a delicate priest hammer, but he still managed, with great effort, to put the hammer away before raising it.

This job, though not physically tiring, took a considerable toll on him mentally, and Hill seriously doubted that his reason for pushing the hammer back and frantically tapping his tablet was planning to resign.

‘Snow Cloud Peak’ and Wenjian’s joint arrival confirmed Hill’s suspicion.

While Snow Old Dog was negotiating through gritted teeth with his rebellious ‘Young Master’, the manager was ruthlessly offering a pay raise to the secretary… and in the end, it was the magic of money that made the secretary choose to continue suffering alongside the ‘Young Master’.

Sometimes, overpaying really is the best motivation for endurance.

Hill actually thought the ‘Young Master’ really understood the rules… Although the food from the Temporal Artifact could be bought by ‘Snow Cloud Peak’, as another person in charge, he could naturally buy it too.

But he didn’t act independently, bypassing ‘Snow Cloud Peak’.

Even though he saw himself as Vila’s representative while negotiating prices with ‘Snow Cloud Peak’, it was more like playing a role-playing game. Despite all the discussions, Vila still didn’t know the cost price of the Undead Tribe’s food.

‘Snow Cloud Peak’ actually understood this, which is why he was willing to keep playing along with the ‘Young Master’.
