Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1673: Explanation Is Just Concealment

Meng Ke reached out to hold her hand, “Xiaoxiao, your hand is cold. Let’s get in the car first and find a warm place to talk.”

Bai Xiaoxiao’s hand was held by him. She didn’t resist and just smiled, “Your hand isn’t warm either.”

“Exactly, that’s why we’re finding a warm place, come have something to eat with me.”

“You haven’t eaten yet?”

Bai Xiaoxiao blinked, looking at Meng Ke in surprise.

He called in the afternoon and said he had landed.

Several hours had passed, and he still hadn’t eaten?

“Get in the car first.”

Meng Ke smiled, turned around to open the car door, and half-pushed her inside.

Bai Xiaoxiao withdrew her hand from his grip, bent down, and got into the car. Only then did Meng Ke walk around the front of the car and sit in the driver’s seat.

As soon as they got in, he turned on the air conditioning.

Ten minutes later, Meng Ke and Bai Xiaoxiao were sitting in a warm restaurant.

Because it was a private room, it was particularly quiet.

Meng Ke ordered a few dishes, all of which Bai Xiaoxiao liked, “I already ate, so I’m not hungry at all. Just order what you want to eat.”

“What I ordered is exactly what I want to eat.”

Meng Ke’s words left Bai Xiaoxiao speechless.

“Xiaoxiao, how come your mom was with you?” Meng Ke poured each of them a glass of hot water and asked, feigning nonchalance.

Bai Xiaoxiao’s eyes flickered, and she responded with a question, “And you, how come several hours have passed and you still haven’t had dinner.”

“I was catching up on sleep, hoping to wait for you to have dinner together. When I woke up and saw it was past eight, I drove over to find you.”

A trace of puzzlement flashed through Bai Xiaoxiao’s eyes.

“How did you know I would be home so early?”

“I guessed.”

“Meng Ke, did you know I was having dinner at Xiao Yuting’s house tonight?”

Bai Xiaoxiao asked calmly, looking at Meng Ke’s expression, which seemed both amused and understanding.

Other than that, she couldn’t think of why Meng Ke had gone to her house to find her, especially after she had told him she had a social engagement.

And he didn’t even call her.

When he reached out to hold her hand, his palm wasn’t warm.

The indication was that he had been standing in the night for quite a while.

“Xiaoxiao, I didn’t mean to hide it from you.” Meng Ke smiled genuinely, already knowing that waiting for her there, someone as smart as her would definitely figure it out.

“How did you know? Could it have been my dad who told you?”

Bai Xiaoxiao squinted her eyes, her hand lightly touching her cup. The scalding heat of the water made her pull back immediately.

Meng Ke shook his head, “Xiaoxiao, it wasn’t your father who told me, but I did know you were having dinner at Xiao Yuting’s house. However, I didn’t know your mom was there too.”

“Who told you?”

Bai Xiaoxiao felt even more puzzled.

Her dining at Xiao Yuting’s house wasn’t public knowledge. She hadn’t mentioned it, and her father didn’t say anything either. It couldn’t have been Xiao Yuting himself, could it?

“Could it be Xiao Yuting?”

Bai Xiaoxiao voiced her suspicion, and Meng Ke just smiled, “That’s not important. What matters is that I knew where to find you.”

Meng Ke’s response effectively confirmed Bai Xiaoxiao’s belief that it was Xiao Yuting who told him.

It’s not impossible since Xiao Yuting’s dislike for Meng Ke was quite open.

The waiter came to serve the dishes. Meng Ke invited Bai Xiaoxiao to eat and thoughtfully served her some food, so she didn’t continue the previous topic.

“Xiaoxiao, when I was waiting for you, I was thinking that if you ignored me, what would I do? Now that I see you’re not angry, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief.”

“Why would I ignore you?”

Bai Xiaoxiao looked at Meng Ke with a smile.

A hint of apology flashed in Meng Ke’s eyes as he put down his chopsticks and looked at Bai Xiaoxiao tenderly and intently, saying softly, “Xiaoxiao, about Xu Wanqi, I’m really sorry. I didn’t expect her to come to you.”

“I didn’t expect it either.”

Bai Xiaoxiao’s indifferent tone made Meng Ke a bit uneasy.

“She didn’t see you, did she?”

“No. After you called, she left. By the time I returned to the company, she had already gone.”

As she said this, Bai Xiaoxiao picked up a piece of shrimp and ate it slowly, “She does listen to you.”

“Xiaoxiao.”

Meng Ke’s smile stiffened, and there was a moment of awkwardness in his expression.

He wasn’t sure if Bai Xiaoxiao’s words had a deeper meaning.

Bai Xiaoxiao chuckled lightly, “No need to be nervous. After all, you’re her boss. Even if you’re going to fire her, she hasn’t collected her salary or left yet, so she has to listen to you.”

Implying that Xu Wanqi was afraid he wouldn’t pay her salary.

Meng Ke couldn’t help but laugh.

“Xiaoxiao, there’s something I need to tell you.”

“What is it?”

Bai Xiaoxiao swallowed the shrimp in her mouth, picked up her now drinkable water, and took a gentle sip.

“I met with Xu Wanqi this afternoon and told her to stay on at the travel agency.”

Meng Ke said this with a steady gaze on Bai Xiaoxiao.

Observing every subtle change in her expression.

As if afraid she might be upset because of this.

Bai Xiaoxiao gave a light smile, “You don’t need to tell me this. She’s originally your employee at the travel agency, and as her boss, you don’t need to consult an outsider like me before making decisions, do you?”

“Xiaoxiao, you’re not an outsider.”

Suddenly, Meng Ke turned serious.

Looking at Bai Xiaoxiao with a solemn expression.

Bai Xiaoxiao was momentarily taken aback.

In Meng Ke’s eyes, there seemed to be a sparkle as he spoke each word clearly, “Xiaoxiao, you’re going to be my future partner, my wife, which means the boss’s wife of the travel agency. I don’t want anyone at the agency to make you uncomfortable.”

Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t say anything but just gently pressed her lips together.

It wasn’t the first time Meng Ke had talked about their future together.

In fact, ever since she returned to China, Meng Ke would often mention their future marriage and life together.

But she couldn’t quite picture what that would look like.

“So, although I kept Xu Wanqi, I also warned her not to be disrespectful or rude to you in the future, because that would mean disregarding me as her boss.”

“Meng Ke, you really don’t have to do this.”

Bai Xiaoxiao sighed softly, her voice gently breaking the silence.

Meng Ke shook his head, his stern expression softening a bit, and a hint of warmth appeared in his eyes, “Xiaoxiao, whether it’s Xu Wanqi or anyone else, anyone who disrespects you disrespects me.”

“From now on, if anything like this happens, don’t hesitate, just call me directly, and I’ll handle it.”

Meng Ke’s words drew a smile from Bai Xiaoxiao.

She raised an eyebrow and looked at Meng Ke, “So you’re saying there are a lot more romances like Xu Wanqi’s?”

“Of course not.”

Meng Ke quickly shook his head, regretting what he had said earlier.

Bai Xiaoxiao was amused by his reaction. She leaned back in her chair, looking at him with a twinkling smile, “You better eat quickly, don’t explain, because explanation is just concealment.”

Meng Ke was momentarily dazzled by Bai Xiaoxiao’s radiant smile.

He spontaneously smiled too, happily saying, “Alright, I won’t explain or conceal.”
