Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1655: Chapter 1654: I Won’t Hurt Her

Heart, suddenly a pause!

Bai Xiaoxiao bowed her head in the next second, avoiding his gentle gaze.

However, with her eyes downcast, she didn’t see the gentleness in Luo Haofeng’s eyes being replaced by disappointment, for a moment, dull and lonely.

On the other sofa, Gu Kai and Mo Xiuchen did not miss the change in Luo Haofeng’s emotions.

Gu Kai chuckled, stood up, walked to the door, and said to Luo Haofeng, “Ah Feng, come with me to pick up Tongtong upstairs.”

“Alright.”

Luo Haofeng smiled, glanced at Bai Xiaoxiao who was talking to Ziyi with her head down, and left the office with Gu Kai.

As the two walked to the elevator, Luo Haofeng’s phone rang.

Gu Kai pressed the elevator button, turned to look at Luo Haofeng, and saw a slight change in his expression, a hint of doubt flashed through his eyes.

“Hello, Auntie.”

“…”

Hearing Luo Haofeng call her Auntie, Gu Kai’s eyes grew even more puzzled.

Unable to hear what was said on the other end of the line, he only saw Luo Haofeng responding, “Okay, Auntie, I’ll be there soon.”

After hanging up, Luo Haofeng proactively said, “Ah Kai, Xiaoxiao’s mom asked to see me, I’m going to meet her now.”

“Xiaoxiao’s mom asked to see you?”

Gu Kai frowned slightly at Luo Haofeng, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, as if this was within his expectations.

“Yes, don’t tell Xiaoxiao, I don’t want her to know.”

**

A few minutes later, Gu Kai brought Tongtong down from his father’s office.

Seeing him return alone with Tongtong, Mo Xiuchen squinted his deep eyes, casually asking, “Ah Kai, where’s Ah Feng? Why didn’t he come back with you?”

Wen Ran had already sat on the sofa Bai Xiaoxiao was sitting on, accompanying her with Ziyi in piecing together the puzzle.

Hearing Mo Xiuchen’s question, Wen Ran looked up at Gu Kai, smiled at Tongtong, and waved.

Bai Xiaoxiao merely called out Tongtong’s name, asking her to come over, seemingly indifferent to Luo Haofeng’s presence.

Tongtong happily ran over to them, got picked up onto the sofa by Wen Ran, while Gu Kai leisurely walked over to the sofa and sat next to Mo Xiuchen.

“Ah Feng had some matters to attend to, he left first.”

In the city center, inside a certain café.

As soon as Luo Haofeng entered the café, he saw Mother Bai sitting by the window.

He lightly pursed his lips, moved with long strides, catching the attention of several young women, until he was in front of Mother Bai.

“Hello, Auntie.”

Luo Haofeng greeted politely.

Mother Bai, while not as kindly smiling as she was at Meng Ke, wasn’t too unfriendly either—at least she didn’t greet him with a cold eye.

“Have a seat.”

Luo Haofeng nodded, pulled out the chair opposite Mother Bai, and sat down.

The waitress came over, and he ordered a cup of coffee.

“I heard you’ve met with Xiaoxiao.”

Mother Bai first scrutinized Luo Haofeng for a few seconds before asking calmly.

Luo Haofeng answered frankly and politely, “Yes, yesterday was Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran’s child’s second birthday, I saw her, and Meng Ke too.”

A hint of surprise flickered in Mother Bai’s eyes.

She hadn’t expected Luo Haofeng to mention Meng Ke.

Her gaze at Luo Haofeng inadvertently grew sharper.

“Do you know why Xiaoxiao stayed abroad and why her father and I agreed?”

The waitress served the coffee and left.

Luo Haofeng’s smile grew bitter, “Auntie, maybe because Xiaoxiao being abroad means she wouldn’t have a chance to meet me.”

“I know you went abroad to see her.”

Mother Bai’s expression was indifferent, her tone calm.

“You’re right, her father and I agreed for Xiaoxiao to stay abroad so that both you and she could move past that relationship.”

Mother Bai sighed lightly at this point.

“Perhaps you think I’m heartless, that I shouldn’t come between you and Xiaoxiao, shouldn’t make Xiaoxiao accept Meng Ke. Luo Haofeng, if you weren’t the son of Luo Rongbin and Wu Jingfang, even if you were a poor boy, we wouldn’t oppose so strongly.”

Luo Haofeng lowered his gaze, looking at the coffee in front of him, a deep voice escaping his lips, “Auntie, I understand, I don’t blame you either.”

“I hesitated for a long time before calling you.”

Mother Bai didn’t hold any grudge against Luo Haofeng personally; it was merely due to his identity.

“Ultimately, I decided to call you. Xiaoxiao has returned to the country now, with mutual friends, meetings are inevitable. I just hope you don’t affect Xiaoxiao, don’t harbor any more thoughts about her, don’t bring her any more harm.”

“Auntie, I wouldn’t harm Xiaoxiao.”

Luo Haofeng only felt a heaviness press against his chest.

Like being blocked by something, breathing became irregular.

“You wouldn’t harm her, but your mother would.”

Mentioning Luo Haofeng’s mother, emotions stirred in Mother Bai.

She pursed her lips, restraining the turmoil within, yet her subsequent words were harsh, “I will never allow my daughter to experience what I endured back then.”

These words carried profound pain.

Luo Haofeng’s expression changed.

Of course, he understood Mother Bai’s meaning; the humiliation she endured back then was something he could neither permit nor allow his beloved woman to face.

“Auntie?”

Luo Haofeng’s voice carried a hint of emotion.

Mother Bai took a deep breath, paused for two seconds, and only when she calmed down did she speak again, “I hope you empathize with a mother’s heart.”

“Auntie, I understand.”

This sentence was essentially a promise.

A promise to Mother Bai that he wouldn’t pursue Bai Xiaoxiao anymore.

But for Luo Haofeng, uttering these words was difficult.

In his heart, it felt as though an unseen hand was sharply gripping it, a pain he’d thought he’d become numb to.

Now realizing it would never be numb, only more painful each time.

To reassure Mother Bai, Luo Haofeng still added in explanation, “Actually, I’ve been going on blind dates these days. Auntie doesn’t want Xiaoxiao hurt, and I wish for her happiness too.”

After speaking, he took out his wallet and paid.

Then he stood up, politely said to Mother Bai, “Auntie, I came from the hospital. Xiaoxiao is there now, unaware I’m meeting you. I’m leaving first.”

The implication was for her not to tell Bai Xiaoxiao.

Mother Bai remained silent.

She watched Luo Haofeng’s departing back until he left the café before retracting her gaze.

Luo Haofeng’s ready agreement and promise did not ease Mother Bai’s mood, nor did it make her feel good.

On the contrary, her feelings were complex.

Luo Haofeng proved stronger than Luo Rongbin back then, from start to finish, he treated Xiaoxiao better than that man ever treated her.

Yet, despite this, she couldn’t let her daughter be with him.

In the parking lot, Luo Haofeng got into his car, didn’t start it immediately, placed both hands on the steering wheel, face buried between them.

Processing every word Mother Bai had said earlier in his mind, he slowly lifted his head, those long romantic eyes filled only with sadness and melancholy, leaving behind deep pain.

After closing his eyes briefly and opening them again, he started the car and drove off!
